In these walkthrough videos I play through 'Mortal Kombat Mythologies : Sub Zero' for the PSX.
This game marked the first time the series ventured into the platform genre. It was received negatively by most, but overall, a decent game albeit a VERY difficult one.

Its december 31st 2020 (well technically january 1 2021 when I write this). For the third year in a row I am forced to spend new years eve on my own. 2 years ago I was in hospital. Last year my friends cancelled plans last minute and this year the covid pandemic forced me to stay indoors on new years eve. 2 years ago on hospital I was browsing on youtube in the late hours of december 31st and found this particular playthrough. I watched it start to finish and laughed so much, it made me feel better honestly. The year after (last year) I was at home on my own again ans thought "hey, last year I watched a playthrough on youtube, let's do the same this year since it cheered me up so much. This year (2020) I decided to,make this my new years eve tradition: Watch this playthrough. It cheered me up during probably my lowest point and it continues to make me laugh. Thank you so much For that Gstar321!

The actor who plays Quan Chi in the cut scenes is Richard Divizio, the same guy who played Kano in the original MK1.

Hes a cool actor i like Divizo. The one that i was disappointed in was the actor for Bi Han (sub zero), I think it was John Turk? he seemed kinda too agitated at times when he did it.

The thing I find most entertaining about Gstar is you can tell he wants to explain the game and give you some real info and put on a good presentation, but these games always make him lose his shit regardless. 🤣

Arguably the best playthrough I have ever seen on UA-cam. This is probably the fourth time I've watched it. He really knows how to entertain and at the same time explain the game and of course you can feel the angry and frustration during the whole playthrough.
What if this game was created by Bo Rai Cho just to spite MrGStar.

Despite the cheesiness, cringe and gameplay, this story does a lot to establish Bi Han as a character and supremely talented warrior. (Something the new games seem to have forgotten when it comes to his character).
Lore-wise this game is sick.
Fr I mean I like to wank Bi-Han simply because he bested shinnok and he was in the netherrealm. That's a big feat.

Insane Fact: if you look up the most said word in the world it is the word "okay" or "alright" etc. ._.
I like how the game can change later on, based on your actions from earlier. If you fatality Scorpion, you'll have to face his UMK3/MKT version later on. If you spare Sareena, she comes and uppercuts Quan Chi in the final stage. They're minor affects but still cool.
The soundtrack of this game is, indeed, amazing; Midway Era Mortal Kombat always had amazing soundtrack

This game was a complete surprise for me when I played it back in the early 2000. I thought this was the start of mk adventure games. But I was very mistaken indeed.
Mythologies Sub-Zero is the Dark Souls of MK games. Hard as fuck but oddly rewarding. Man, hard games are the best!
This game back then was a nightmare. I thought when I bought it was a hidden gem but damn virtually everything about this game is cheap and no matter how many times I gave it a chance the AI is a complete MESS and it’s not just the AI the level design is very poor.
Basically the Dark Souls of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

What makes this series so funny, I think, is how reluctant Gstar is to get started. It's just the title screen and he's already getting angry. The N64 version is similarly frustrating.

Plus, without it, there wouldn't be all the special sprites they use in MUGEN games.
This game needs a remake. I think it had lots of wasted potential, and deserves a better treatment. Imagine it remade on a modern engine, improved mechanics, refilmed fmv cutscenes (because they were just iconic), maybe some new characters, the story retold in a more refined and better way, no bs death traps, and a reasonable difficulty level. Would buy three copies myself.

I personally enjoyed this game as a kid.. beat it multiple times.. to each it's own, the concept was right during that time of gaming..

I don't get the hate behind this game. I honestly think they did a good job at it. The only negatives are the controls, which may affect you but you can get used to it easily and the lack of fatalities besides the classic spine rip on Sareena and Scorpion.

Just finally picked this up for PS1, always had the N64 one but it doesn't have the cool cutscenes and CD quality sound. Got frustrated, grabbed some food and searched your videos to see if you played this already. Looks like you're just as frustrated as me playing it. LOL great video!

You're the only person that makes this game be as it is, hard, weird, but keeping the good things, as you say, a hardcore mortal kombat fan would only like this, and no matter how bad it can be, you like it, this game is a hate/love thing but adding plus rage haha, still would love they make another sub zero mythologies but, preeeetty decent, not like this plataforming no sense extreme hard things and with more lifes etc....

Ok, now lets start this series. I rather like the cheesy movies the game has as well, they give you more stories, and a little bit of atmosphere, not the best one though, but it's okay.
The game reminds me guilty gear isuka, where you have to press one button to rotate too, what basically breaks the experience. Anyway, if you like this saga as asme as if you like GG series, it is a nice anecdote to play heheh. Nice video as usual! You're becoming one of my favorite youtubers! The best one in english, that's for sure.

MrGStar321, the story of Mythologies is that Bi-Han has to get the Map of Elements for Quan Chi. Mythologies takes place 50 years before Bi-Han was murdered by Hanzo Hasashi in the first Mortal Kombat tournament.

Apparently I don't know much about Mortal Kombat if I say I liked this game back then. It was hard but I liked the journey into it.

You like it, you play through it once, you never want to go back again. The same with me. I rather enjoy a playthrough of this instead of replaying it again for the story.
This game brought me anger and even tears when I was young.
If I knew the AI was programmed like that, this game would be a bit easier. Didn't know that some moves should be "off-limits" because of the AI's programming.

idk if anyone mentioned this, & i know this video is pretty old, but i remember going through the first stage a long time ago, but if you played on the easy setting i believe theres a mention of how to get past the crushing pillars, by using a sweep you can make it come down & as it goes up you run past it, ofcourse you do have to becareful not to over shoot your stop when theres another pillar afterwards, but you can use this method to activate the pillar to crush the enemy easier instead of trying to kick or knock them into it, anyways great game i loved it growing up, & the ps one version had hidden bloopers of characters missing their lines & what not
The concept was nice, but the execution of it went bad. It would've been an awesome Konquest mode, telling the story of Sub-Zero (I don't know which version yet... Be Han or Kuai Liang) from beginning till the story of the last MK game or last comic book story at that time. A remake with better graphics, better controllers and better recent story being told would redeem itself. Having a series of story-telling by being that character, going around... basically an updated version of Konquest mode, but using a favorite character doing missions and seeing them developed from novice teenager to full grown adult kicking ass would freshen the game series and would bring in RPG gamers into the scene. I love the MK games for the graphic nature of the game play, but also the story it told... how the characters develop over time. It is amazing. It is too bad the mythologies aspect of MK started of with this steamy pile of shit. It's not a total fuck up, but could've been better considering the developers did have examples to go by with what makes an amazing platform game... one mark they miss was being able to play it. I had a hard time controlling Sub-Zero and the environment was ruthless. Good thing it was a rental. I would've been really pissed off if I actually bought this game.
