I was into the Evil Dead series before this movie came out but this film is the gateway to introducing a new generation to Evil Dead. We all need a little Evil Dead in our lives and it also helps to know that the movie is really good so new fans should have zero problem acclamating to the awesomeness that is Evil Dead. I got into Evil Dead after watching the Evil Dead reboot which is also great by the way but I remember watching the first two when I was younger but I wasn’t as into it as I am now.
9/10 for sure. The wrap around story I didn’t care for much, until I thought about it some more. It just shows how non-family people vs family members made it against the Deadites. At least that’s how made it make sense.
I'm feeling the enthusiasm you have for this film. I always knew I was going to watch it, but now I'm really eager and excited to see it. Thanks for the review!
Lee really likes the hole in the ground. 🤣😝 Joke aside, the movie is awesome and we even clapped at the end in Australia. Long story short, the movie is disgustingly entertaining. Well done!
I absolutely loved this movie! It's terrifying and very bloody I love the family in this movie especially Ellie because she loves her kids and even her sister but when she becomes a Deadite shit hits the fan! And you know it's about to become a Bloodbath! Taking place in a high-rise apartment to me feels very frightening and also claustrophobic this movie was phenomenal and I'm definitely gonna see it a second time!
I watched it last night and probably will make a review as well. It really was kind of fun, especially in theatre. It had been a while for me, not seeing soemthing so goryon the big screen. Totally agree about the acting and characters, and change of location. As I was going on with the movie I thought a lot about the fact that basically no one is safe, and the movie goes all in on that aspect.
Should they follow through with expanding the universe even further (I’d say it’s all but confirmed at this point due to the movie’s success), I’m curious what they’ll do with the follow ups. According to Bruce, there’s more to be explored. Maybe we’ll get a crossover with Mia?
The director has teased about the three diff books and how those characters from each movie can come together to fight the evil dead and I would love that
37 here, but grew up watching these, loved the Evil Dead movies. To be honest I'd say give it a watch, saw it last night, it is very "Evil Dead" but leans more into the horror side, still has some dark comedy, but it's less like ED2 or AoD, much more horror, but with a nice twist on the usual "group of people in a cabin in the woods" formula. If you like Evil Dead, you'll enjoy it, very entertaining.
I was disappointed by it, I guess the build up was too much, and I was expecting more! All in all it was descent! I wish there weren't a lot of hype going into it and maybe it would have been better!!
Honestly I thought it was ok at best. The acting was terrible when they weren't deadites. When actors can't act you want as little dialect as possible. This was the opposite. The deadite acting was great and the story was great.
Excellent review of Evil Dead: Rise! I agree with the other commenter! It was immersive! My recliner even shook! Glad I didn't peek at the trailer and very glad I saw this at the movie theater! 🩸🩸🩸
I agree. I loved everyone's performance in this. Kids were great and Sutherland just nailed it.
Totally loved "The Hole in the Ground" ! Glad to see that Lee Cronin delivers, not an easy task to break ground in a very well known franchise !

the title card was absolutely majestic!!!
I’ve watched it twice!, so so good!, I want them to do the next one with the priests who are mentioned, and set it in a gothic church!!
I especially loved the sound design... surrounded by body rending and buzzing flies.
Immersive.
Omg yes, can’t believe I forgot to mention that. The sound really got under your skin!

alyssa sutherland put on a great physical performance and she used her eyes and face in such a fantastic way. she became very spooky.
I've been waiting for this review, which was excellent.
Thank you so much for this review Amanda!! I was hoping you'd do one!!

It’s even more enjoyable the second time!
Definitely adding the Blu ray to the collection

Yes, I loved this movie so much!
Me and my brother saw the movie and enjoyed it. We were the only ones that laughed out loud when that eyeball scene happened.
How can you not love a 80’s horror remake
Loved this movie and so happy it didn't flunk
When the Necronimicron said “rise you evil dead! RISE! That was one of the moments of all time.
this film looks AMAZING!!!! ❤❤❤

Aw man, sad to hear you didn’t enjoy it as much as I did. I didn’t find issues with the acting!
best movie of 2023 so far was M3GAN
Sorry to tell u but ur taste in horror is garbage. Evil Dead Rise is the first great horror entry this year. Everything else was just shit.
