  • In the context of the exhibition The University Is Now on Air: Broadcasting Modern Architecture, the CCA presents twenty-four broadcasts from the course A305, History of Architecture and Design 1890-1939, by The Open University. To learn more about the project, visit www.cca.qc.ca/....
Sandra Millikin takes a close look at Hill House, perhaps the most perfect of Mackintosh’s houses, built in 1903 at Helensburgh, near Glasgow, for the publisher Walter Blackie. Besides indicating how the design responded to the needs of the particular client, Millikin also suggests the ways in which the house related to traditional Scottish forms and to Mackintosh’s other work.
Written by Sandra Millikin and Alexander John, directed by Nick Levinson, produced the BBC/Open University, aired 8 March 1975 on BBC2.

A GENIUS WHO SAW THINGS IN A DIFFERENT WAY! WE APPRECIATE HIM NOW! MORE THAN HE WAS IN HIS LIFETIME! AND HIS WIFE WAS HIS MAIN INSPIRATION! HE SAID SHE HAD GENIUS, HE FOLLOWED HER! TO THEM BOTH!

Mackintosh and Wright must have been close cousins. Not as far as Scotland from Illinois.

“The harl or roughcast was used to protect against the weather”. That didnt work out too well. The house is now covered in a tin roof with 29,000 feet of chain mail on the sides. It is a spectacular house, though, and is my favourite of all the National Trust for Scotland properties.

CRM was about a 100 years ahead of his time .
Just look at modern interiors and the collors used today .
The abundant use of those squares was genius , it created a connection between the house and furniture .
His greatest forte was his ability to design modern architecture , while still keep warm and soft elements , something mr le Corbusier dearly missed !!!!!!!
