- It's time to wrap up my January reads! This month was a mix of magical worlds, unique storytelling, and… a few disappointments. Let’s dive into the books I read and my honest thoughts!
📖 Books Mentioned:
🔥 Elemental Affections - Jaime Ryanne (4⭐) | A cozy fantasy romance with elemental magic and a heartwarming love story.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC. #elementalaffections #thenerdfam @thenerdfam
🕵️♂️ The Tainted Cup - Robert Jackson Bennett (4⭐) | A murder mystery in a fascinating fantasy world-great worldbuilding!
🐉 Court of Dragons and Twilight - G. Bailey (2⭐) | Unfortunately, this one didn’t live up to expectations… let's talk about why.
⚡ Onyx Storm - Rebecca Yarros (3⭐) | A setup-heavy sequel that left me conflicted-middle book syndrome, anyone?

I’ve heard a lot of good things about The Tainted Cup from a lot of people, so I guess it’s going to be added to my TBR now. 😂
Onyx Storm wasn’t as good as Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, and I knew how it was going to end about halfway through. But I still gave it a 4 stars because I love this series! ❤❤
I think the Tainted Cup was a really great genre mixer of fantasy with detective/investigation and I loved it. It's going to be a series so i'm really looking forward to the next one.
I'm happy you still loved Onyx Storm, to me it was ok but not what I hoped for (especially in that amount of pages).
oh man, I had similar feelings about Onyx Storm. I didn't hate it or even dislike it really but it might be my least favorite book in the series. I love a good group journey in my books, but I think this would have been better if they had spent most of the book on the journey without constantly going back and forth to Basgiath. The school visits added nothing to the story so I think we could have done without them and really invested in the search. Also, I didn't understand what happened at the end, so I was really left wanting.
I'm glad you had a similar feeling about it, if it would have focused just on the isles it would have been so much better. It really didn't need the constant back and forth. Thank you for sharing 🖤
i heard the fourth wing series was originally supposed to be 3 books and then when it blew up they changed it to 5 books so they are just cash grab filler books at this point. i don't get why there's so much hype over a series that's honestly just mid at best in my opinion lol. i was so bored to tears reading iron flame during so many info dumpy parts (that didn't make sense to me in relevance to the story) and i swear i really wanted to love it but when a book feels like work to finish & i have to drag myself through it... i can't justify continuing the series. the cliff hanger of iron flame didn't even phase me lmao i was like dude i can't with this anymore haha. it's interesting seeing what people are saying about onyx storm.
I got mostly back into reading at the time Fourth Wing was released, and I still really enjoy it. But it really makes sense it should have been a trilogy, iron flame was a good middle book, but now I just want the conclusion and I stopped caring about anything except the dragons.
I think the dragons are what make people like the series, that and it's a smutty romance book. I find romance readers are pretty easy ot make happy, excpet me I'm picky picky picky.
I've liked one series by G. Bailey and it's a cowrite. Her stories are just copy paste or plagerisms of other stories. IMHO she has potential as a writer if she applied herself more.
I couldn’t find anywhere where it says that the accusations on Neil Gaimen were confirmed, can you site your source?
the trail still has to be held, so technically it's not yet confirmed. But with the coverage I saw in the news it did seem like it. www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn01dynqx7ro
He made a statement on it that is pretty damning imo, but the rape trial should be decisive.
