I first heard of Cathedral when they opened up the Grindcrusher tour in 1992 with Napalm Death & Carcass. Crowd wasn't ready for this type of music (neither was I AT THAT TIME). Took a little bit but I got into them big time and hopefully others on that first tour did as well.
It's just as heavy....just a hell of a lot slower! Makes sense for Lee though, as far as I'm concerned; his vocal delivery suits this kind of music far better than it does deathgrowl grindcore....when I listen to this I get a real Victorian decadence/Pre-Raphaelite vibe...they were heavy into the fleeting, the faded, the fey and the fatal too!
I do not know how old I was when a rockero lent me a cassette with no name with this music, like it from the fisrt second. Later on years passed and I was trying to figure it up how to get it back or find who they were, till I find it looking thru doom metal, but it was too fast as I recallled it, then I got it, the casseete was too tight make it sound slower 😅
Now just listening to this sh*t all over again. I still get goosebumps listening to it on my headphones at quite a decent volume. Incredible after thirty odd years. Maybe Cathedral is the best overall band ever looking at their whole career ... this still stuns the sh*t out of me!!!!!!! just emotional, f*ck dudes!!

I bought this album on release, and I still adore it! However the newer version of this song that was released on the Japan edition of the Ethereal Mirror kicks some serious ass..I already contacted Earache Records if they would release that version, or at least give us the permission to post it on UA-cam. But still no answer. :(
I came for all of it - but then, I always will, and I'm sure you will as well, so no harm done. What's not to love about this band? Electro doom disco hippies from Hell, with some of the heaviest sounds this side of two planets colliding.....groovy as fuck too......one of the best metal bands (any genre) ever spawned.....

Hearing Forest in 1991 was, at the time, one of the greatest musical puzzles of my young mind!
