- Nikon is full of surprises these days. And just a day after the release of the Z6II we have a new 35mm option -- an f/1.4. Who would have guess it, since most of us were awaiting an S-line lens, widely believed to be a 1.2?
But here it is.

Great vid Ray, and thanks for the shout out - be great to see more from this lens, and what the future holds for prime lenses :)
Absolutely! And you're welcome!
Thanks Ray, for the great video. It's almost uncanny how much you sound like Peter Zelinka though
My Pleasure. If you're talking about the Astrophotographer, sorry I can't agree (my wife either); he has a distinctly American accent, while I speak Canadianized Brit.
I'm very excited for this lens. Hoping to pick it up once it releases. Already put my preorder in
👍
Thanks Ray! Having not gone for the ZZ6iii I did order the new lens on the announcement day 😊. I did notice that the extra control ring does seem to make it look smaller than the S 35mm.
interesting! might get one since I do not own a 35 yet
For only $200 more you get the s line 35 1.8…I’ve never used a 1.4 honestly…I’d probably still lean to the 1.8. But I like that Nikon is finally creating some cheaper lenses. Still wish they’d let Sigma ART into the Z game. 📸😎
Congrats on the new Z6III…Hope to have mine by Friday.
True, but $200 is still $200. I think this lens will sell. Hope your Z6III arrives on time.
I've got the 1.8S and 40mm F2 lene's I don't see any reason to get this one.
In Sweden the 1.8 lens sale makes that one cheaper ... 7690 SEK (SWEDISH KRONA) for the 1.8 and 8690 SEK for the new 1.4 ...
Interesting! Thanks for the info.
Mmm Nice Vid, Saving for the 1.8 35 at moment, Not too fussed by my 2,8 28.The 1.4 and 1.2 will be out there by the time I save the drachmas so will see, Cheers from the wide brown land.
Cheers! from the wide green land.
Since you already have the Z9 and Z8, is there any reason you purchased the Z6iii? Regarding the new lens: do you think this is actually a rebadged Tamron lens?
Different tool for different jobs. The Z6III is lighter, smaller but shoots 5.4 and 6K, plus better low light performance. I have no inside intel but I don't think this is made by Tamron.
It isn't, there's no Tamron with the same optics around (neither is there a Samyang or anything else). This one has a concave front element which none of the others have.
I like Ducks!!
But do you like odd ducks?
@@RaymondParkerPhoto odd ducks are so much more interesting than standard boring ducks don’t you think?

I am absolutely not happy about this release. Recently I bought the 24 to 7O 2.8 - I bought the Plenna 135 1.8 and I bought the Nikon 180 to 600 5.6 and I purchased the 14 to 24 2.8 - 50 mm 1.2 S and the 85 mm 1.2. and the 70 - 200 2.8.
I also bought the 50 mm 1.8 and had the 50 mm 1.8.
I was really looking forward to the release of their 35 mm 1.2. I deliberately did not purchase the 35 mm 1.8 because I have a Tamron 1.4 and that lens is absolutely outstanding in fact I think it is one of the best lenses that Tameron has ever made.
After seeing Nikon round out its lenses on the road map it was exciting and I purchased a Nikon Z9 camera which I absolutely love.
For Nikon to release a 35 mm 1.4 is extremely disappointing. First it is not an S lens and has absolutely no switches on it whatsoever. What possibly could be the difference between the 35 1.8 and the 35 1.4?
At least the 35 mm 1.8 is an S series lens.
Don't misunderstand if Nikon wants to release a group of less expensive 1.4 glass that is fine but it is disappointing that they did not finish off their line by including a 35 mm 1.2. Not sure what direction they are heading and I sure hope that this 35 mm 1.4 is NOT The last lens remaining on their road map.
It is intriguing, as I indicate in this video, that the (now retired) roadmap had a 35mm as an S Line lens. So maybe your hopes won't ultimately be dashed.
A 35 f/1.2 could still arrive later.
Ricci hinted in his video that this isn't the one one the roadmap. Think you just will have to wait more for the 1.2, doubt this was the last 35 ever from Nikon.
Now I'm waiting for a 28, a bit faster than the 2.8, and reasonably priced. An S 1.8 or non-S 1.4 like this one, both would do.
Just no US$2000+ top shelf lens, I need a workhorse, reasonable in size, weight, price.
@@marcusbraun8889 Thanks Marcus and everyone. I've been a fan of Nikon since my original D200. So many people were saying that Nikon was going Bankrupt and was finished.
I knew that was BS and I am so proud of Nikon for making such a huge comeback. In my opinion their color science is superior and their cameras and equipment are much better than Sony and Canon. I am encouraged by the comments from all of you that the possibility of a 35 mm 1.2 is still possible.
I'm not upset that Nikon released a 35 mm 1.4 as a line of 1.4 less expensive glass would be very exciting but when you shoot professionally you expect and get used to the S line lenses and 1.2.
Let's hope you're all right and I'm glad that Ricci stated that this is not the lens on the road map.
I have to say that of all the lenses that I have recently purchased I am extremely pleased with especially the new 135 1.8 Plena.
Not just because of the photography Bokeh but the image quality from edge to edge without vignetting and it's close focus range is absolutely incredible.
The 12t Plena truly deserves having The planet name engraved on the lens like the Noct.
Nikon and its engineers should be truly proud of this lens especially since when Nikon moved to the Z mount everyone kind of snickered as they were writing it off and clearly that move has been instrumental in lenses like the 50 1.2 and the Plena 135 1.8. I don't think the capabilities would have been possible on the old F Mount. So excited to see what they will come out next. Now that their roadmap is almost finished I am sure they are going to really small exotic lenses like the Plena and I look forward to that development. Need to be more kind to my wife since my lands purchasing has gone a little bit out of control and she has been so gracious and patient and knows that I truly love photography.
@@madst7521 Yes I have heard that from others and I am so encouraged. I don't mind that Nikon wants to release a new line of 1.4 less expensive glass. That is actually a great idea and they have done such a spectacular job with keeping to their roadmap and even releasing a few exceptional special lenses like the Knoct and the Plena. Hopefully the 35 mm 1.2 will remain on the road map and come out at some point in the future.
Strange - the 35mm f1.8 is an S and and I dont like it.
But the new lens is faster but not A s lens ... 🦘
A bit of a head scratcher for sure.
The same for me, I had the 35 1.8s lens and I sold it because I didn't like it in low light conditions on the photos, I was waiting for the 1.2. I don't know if I should buy 1.4, I was thinking that maybe it is made with newer technology, with research towards 1.2s
