  • Did you know there is a lab at the Research & Extension Center in Powell dedicated just to testing seeds. The See Lab works with Wyoming Seed Certification, trade groups, growers, and research to test everything from germination rates to seed purity.

I have a question :). What is the name of machine (some kind of microscope?) which we can see in background in 0:42? I mean machines used by women? Thx

The instrument you see is a Vision Mantis Microscope. They were developed about 15 years ago and are more ergonomically friendly than a stereoscope. They were not designed exclusively for seed testing, but for anyone who does close visual inspection work.

Do you use it daily (work with seeds)? What are the advantages of useing Vision Mantis Microscope compared to stereoscope?

We use the Mantis scopes daily on pretty much all the seed we test. The only advantage of stereoscopes is magnification and clarity. If you need high magnification, stereoscopes are the way to go. We have one and we use it routinely for evaluating very small seeds.
