So here you have a 50ish year old guy, dressed like he just finished changing the oil in his car, coming on stage and crushing what is not just the definitive version of the song, but also ending it with what is universally revered as one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded. Seen this hundreds of times and I still get teary eyed.
Strange...the first time I watched Gilmour on this concert, he reminded more of a pub-owner...you know, a friendly guy, but just don't annoy him. But if I just listen to him, he sounds like a schoolteacher to me (Compare the difference between "I can't explain.." from him and the same lines from Roger Daltrey) Nick Mason could be the friendly next-door old-age pensioner who is always complaining about his grandson not getting his hair cut.
The Pink Floyd rabbit hole is a very deep one. IMO this is the best guitar solo ever and David Gilmour is just one of the best of all time. No matter how often I hear it, and it's been a lot, it just gets better.
There is music.. And then there is Pink Floyd! I was at this concert, words fail to describe the overload of emotions I felt. I was so grateful to have witnessed this live, the memory of it will remain with me forever. Thanks guys for this updated version, very good... But nothing compares to being there... Lucky me.
Was at this concert at Earls court in London. Can't believe it's 30 years ago still the best concert I've ever been to in the hundreds of bands I've seen live. I feel very privileged to have seen live possibly the greatest guitar solo ever recorded. And saddened to know I will never see such an amazing band as awesome as Pink Floyd ever again.
There are some things you are really thankful for in your life. To see this, open Air in Hockenheim, Germany, together with some 80.000 is one of these things.
Been going to PF gigs from the 60s when they were supporting Hendrix, right up to Pulse concerts. Division Bell Tour). Still consider this the be the best performance; thankfully happening before the plague of mobile phones at gigs
Hi guys , i also saw Pink Floyd on the A Momenary Lapse of Reason tour , London '89 , but this Pulse recording of the Division Bell Tour is something else , off the scale
Great job guys, I've been a Floyd fan since the DSOTM album in 1973, I was a budding Rock guitarist in a high school band in 1973, and that album floored me to say the least! Dave Gilmour has been my #1 inspirational Rock guitarist, that's saying something considering all of the great Rock guitarists from the late 60s and 70s. I was fortunate enough to get tickets to see them perform their 1980 "The Wall" world tour at The Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale Long Island NY. It was the most incredible performance I've ever seen in my 67 years on this planet. This Pulse concert at Earls Court was one of the last concerts of PF.s "The Division Bell" world tour, it was a massive undertaking. Something like 111 concerts, in 68 cities, in 17 countries, but the most amazing thing about this tour was the stage, or more accurately the 3 stages. Because of the time it took to set up and tear down the massive stages, (designed after the Hollywood Bowl), they built 3 of them, 3 identical stages, sound systems, lighting, rigs, etc. Everything you see here in this video was just one of 3, it took over 3 days to load-in and set up, and 2.5 days to load-out. So, they had 3 stages leapfrogging from venue to venue around North America, so when the band got to the next city to perform, the stages, sound system, lighting, etc., were all set and ready to go! The logistics of the tour were massive, approximately 700 tons of steel, on over 50 trailer trucks, with a crew of over 160 people. I'd love to see you guys react to a couple other Pulse Concert performances, "Sorrow", "High Hopes" and "Money" come to mind.
Pink Floyd's album is called THE Dark Side Of The Moon. That first The is important as it differentiates this from Murray Head's album Dark Side Of The Moon released to year before.
Fascinating details. Hello from another Long Guylander! Last thing I saw at the Coliseum was a monster truck show back in the '80s. Not as good, but just as LOUD, lol.
I'm a big fan of pink Floyd's and I would strongly recommend you watch and listen to the ghdansk concert in Poland in particular echoes for me this is the best version I will be very surprised if you don't enjoy it
This was the best concert i have attended. It eas an unforgetable experience. Also this performance was an inspiration to Dani Villarreal of the Warning. Thank you guys for reacting to it. 👍
Don't know how many people were there but I seen that Concert in Ohio State Stadium with over 150 Thousand People Easy Probably closer to 200 Thousand People. Because the College Students were buying all the ticket stubs for 5 bucks and reselling them for who knows how much they paid outside trying to get into the Concert. But when you Hear over 150 Thousand People Singing in perfect harmony it was better than this performance. Greatest Experience of my Life 3 and half hours minus the 45 minute break. Heart stopping performance and what a Light Show. Planes were doing figure 8 over the Field so the passengers was able to get a good look.
That makes sense and in Gilmour's case, I think it's OK - he was generally immaculate in his playing. I would bet it was more to make sure the audio cues matched up with the spectacle. - G
Sure, but there are many reasons, very easy for a guitar to lose tuning, especially when he's bending and constant heavy use of the tremolo arm. So he'd be hitting the right notes immaculately but that one string would be off. So no artist would want that going out. The film editor took care how much close ups was shown to maintain the illusion. Albeit still 'live' but from another night. The actual uncut version of this is on UA-cam, bum notes and all. @@glennandadriansrocktalk
Don't get much better than that boys! Do One of These Days from same show, saw a guy do a head dive into the orchestra pit to it. Lotta 'cid in those days. New sub.
Obviously you appreciate good music and talented people, can I suggest you check out a young man called Ren, you could start by watching Hi Ren, them have a look at the band he was in, The Big Push, they do a great cover of War Pigs plus loads more, also their original stuff is good too. I've subscribed just in case 😁
I think, once you get past the light show, I still prefer the Live 8 performance over this one. A longer guitar solo is not automatically a better one. I also think the black strat sounds better than the red one. Roger has also performed this song as part of his live shows, I like the version from "In the Flesh" with Doyle Bramhall and Snowy White, and it's interesting to see other guitar players take on the solo.

Nick Mason looks like he has just been working in a bank, and rick Wright looks like he's been selling cars, and Guy Pratt is the little oik😊
Every word of that comment 100 % accurate, love it!

David Gilmour is the Leonardo Da Vinci on the guitar and this solo is the Mona Lisa, timeless.
So is Hendrix Van Gogh by that analogy?
@@swfcocs1 could well be 👍
That masterpiece will be viewed and watched until the end of time
Probably by me every day.

At the centre of it all. The fingers on Dave's left hand. Sublime.

There are those who play guitar...and then there is David Gilmour.
Amen! ❤️

Excellent reaction. Gentlemen, let me remind you that this concert took place around 30 years ago; ... just astonishing!
There are some things you are really thankful for in your life. To see this, open Air in Hockenheim, Germany, together with some 80.000 is one of these things.
“Run like hell” the closing song of the concert. They throw everything at it. The lasers & the pyrotechnics are something else ✌️🇬🇧
In the film the Wall that song is supposed to represent Chrystalknact(?),& Pink is Hitler. So I understand.

We're jealous that you saw them in the 60s!

A true rock God!
David Gilmour's guitar playing is so emotional, he is a guitar wizard.
Please react to "Sorrow" from the Pulse Tour. It's also amazing.
YESSSSS-Yet more goosebumps...........

Gilmour , the best performance , it's a mazing . Great Guitarist ! Pink Floyd is Dave Gilmour ! I Loved .
I was there and it still doesn't get old after all these years
Love the screen. I never get sick of pink floyd. Nice reaction, thank you.
This is probably the ULTIMATE rock performance of ALL time.
I wrote a response to you, but it was immediately deleted by youtube - do you know why that was?
I'm a big fan of pink Floyd's and I would strongly recommend you watch and listen to the ghdansk concert in Poland in particular echoes for me this is the best version I will be very surprised if you don't enjoy it
I like how mr screen was turned down to shine all the lights on David while he did his solo. Awesome!
Great reaction. From the same Pulse Concert, please check out SORROW and also RUN LIKE HELL.
was lucky enough to see them in the late 80s at the old Wembley Stadium
Perfection. 🥰
That is superb that!
Me and my wife went to one of those concerts, absolutely gorgeous incredible. At those volumes the tiniest mistake would be so obvious.
Great sound and love the big screen view. I had not seen that latest version. I did notice several new shots! Excellent! Thanks.

At the end when the glitter ball opens there is a diamond shaped light inside, which is a reference to former band mate the late Syd Barrett
LOVE THIS BAND! Glenn gets the Pink Floyd, I can see it. Adrian looks like a deer staring into oncoming headlights, LOL.
Ahhh the memories❤❤🎉
Yes a great solo, but section/s of it was from different concerts of the same tour. You can hear one 'shift' at the 10min mark.
