      No he isn't. He is a corporatist insider. When asked about the corrupt relationship between Harlan Crowe and Clarence Thomas, all that Brooks had to say was that Crowe was a wonderful, sweet man. No he isn't, he is purveyor of the highest level of corruption, over the course of decades, it's possible for a person to be engaged in.

    I always enjoyed seeing David on the PBS News Hour. I am a moderate Democrat (a rare bird nowadays), but consider him a personable Conservative who seems open-minded, empathetic, intelligent, and reasonable.
    I need to read his books.

      I too a moderate democrat, I agree with you, we need republicans such as Brooks, John Kasich and Mitt Romney.

    I love this guy - even though he is a conservative and a believer. Why can’t the rest of the right and evangelical put down their swords and just be accepting and compassionate? I am a progressive and an atheist, and would love it if all the “others” were this thoughtful, honest, and vulnerable.

    'For some reason I stoped to listen to this particular interview, my only exposure to David was Friday night on PBS Shields and Brooks ...out of Chicago.... and rumors about President Nixon 🙄.... I'm so happy to see individuals come so clear and honest about the truth... it's real and we get the idea, the Man is completely brilliant . Thanks for Sharing...

    As they lay down to sleep forever
    The children’s prayers cease
    Live shortened by a cruel dictator
    A dove mourns an unlikely peace
    A ruler’s greed cold and heartless,
    a conscience empty as space
    Saddened parents cries bombard us
    As the world offers a warm embrace

    Brooks says he never knew how to say, "I love you." And then talks about how important his children are to him. I feel sorry for his children if, as their father, he never told them he loved them. No wonder his wife left him.

    "he's known for his observations about what in society works".... yes, he just lazily says whatever opinions he has and gets paid for it, then changes him mind depending on who is employing him.

  • @veritas6335

    The tragic thing about Brooks is as he says, no one in his family had ever said ,"I love you" to him. He appears to be totally walled off from feeling anything, denying all emotion. It's no wonder he has spent his life trying to give himself permission to have feelings. Not unlike many men. Women rarely have this problem.

    I’m going to schedule a root canal instead ask my dentist questions about world affairs, instead. He doesn’t know anything about it, which is exponentially more than this craven quixotic.
    Stop rewarding solipsism.

    • @patriciajump9511
      @patriciajump9511 2 роки тому

      It was a talk about theories and methods, not world affairs. David Brooks, if a quixotic, is not craven, no more than you are, but your style of criticism could use some polish, imo

      @@patriciajump9511 Let's see if this is polished enough for you. When asked about the corrupt relationship between Harlan Crow and Clarence Thomas, all Brooks had to say was that Crow was a wonderful, sweet man who he had been friends with for years. This is the answer you'd expect from a corporatist, wealthy, Catholic insider. So no, he's not quixotic, but he is blind when the corruption is acted out by a fellow member of his tribe.

      @@patriciajump9511 Perhaps this is the problem. David Brooks is an op-ed columnist for the New York Times. He is a commentator on The PBS Newshour, NPR's All Things Considered, and NBC's Meet the Press. You may want to expand your news sources

  • @bubb5225

    Here are the keys to success if you want to be like David Brooks: 1) be a white male. 2) kiss up to all your superiors at work, tell them how wonderful they are, how much knowledge they possess. 3) go to your boss one day and pitch yourself like this - “I am an upright moral man concerned with morality and uprightness in everyday life, so make me a columnist where I can write about morality and personal growth and heaven and all sorts of quasi-religious matters. 4) go to all the right parties in Washington and New York. 5) hire a good agent who puts you on tv marketing you you as a sincere man of wisdom.
    It’s OK if you (and I’m talking to you boys here, for all the most upright, moral columnists are males and white) abandon your wife of 30 years for a young chick who’s working as your secretary; and if you piss off your grown children for doing so. The young chick and the money mean more.
    And that was David Brooks’ path to success.

      This man as always has something to say and has made two major adjustments in life that many of his readers would truthfully say had helped them to look beyond themselves.

    • @thanksforbeingausefulidiot9016
      @thanksforbeingausefulidiot9016 Рік тому

      That's exactly correct. When asked about the thoroughly corrupt relationship between Harlan Crow and Clarence Thomas, Brooks' only response was that Crow was a wonderful, sweet man who he had been friends with for years.
