Favorite part about this raid is how anyone that played Nier knew what to do for more than 75% of the mechanics. despite it being their first time
tbh most of it is just situational awareness... but Nier is a good teacher for that for sure.
Agreed. Even if I hadn't touched NieR for like 3-4 months prior to the raid launching...but I've also played a bunch of games that have similar combat styles and evasion to NieR. So....seeing anything immediately brought up random memories of those games and I just....reacted without really knowing what I was reacting to
@@craigfunk3453 its just good visual design, its hard to forget those red/pink orbs in such a subdued color palette being a big thing to avoid, but even if you haven't played Nier its still a good visual. The biggest challenge compared to most FFXIV content is probably the fact you need to keep track of the whole arena in those fights, not just what the boss is doing.
This is very true, but at the same time, that doesn't mean they're immune to getting destroyed by those mechanics.
Or, anyone who's ever played XIV. This Raid was pathetically easy.
I remember the first time I ran through this, I was freaking estatic because I loved NieR. Then I immediately remembered that Yoko Taro is involved in this, and that I was gonna be suffering at some point.
Especially as it's the 10 year anniversary of NieR... I can see something that will bring us to our knees...
This appears to be the general consensus of the raid.
People who like Nier, people who are easily swayed by sexbot ass: This raid is great!
Everyone else: It's meh at best.
The raid is just a mish-mash of old mechanics, made playable by cranking up the damage, and down the response time.

Personally I don’t really care about them reusing old mechanics. As long as the fights have great music, a nice aesthetic, and the mechanics offer some sort of challenge (they have some sort of punishment for messing up) then I’m happy. Plus, with Yoko Taro, the story could really go anywhere, and I’m really curious how he’ll tie FFXIV and Nier together.
@@mikeypon768 Really? Sorry, I must've blacked out when bosses used wind to push hurtboxes, or when they summoned towers to drop on players that you had to judge based on cuts.
Now that you mention it, I think it was Moggle Mog that pulled out a rifle and forced you to turn the unmarked side towards him right?
Dude, there's a difference between 'all enemies use hurtboxes' and 'literally copying beats so exact, people can call out the exact motions required to win before SEEING the boss.'
Also, there's a world of difference between 'challenge' and 'attack lands with no warning one-shotting you'
The only, and I mean *only* reason this raid is getting away with it, is because people are blinded by 2B ass. Notice that's the big topic of discussion with this raid tier: The ass nerfs.
No one cares about the raid. No one cares about the story.
But it's Yoko Taro, so that's par for the course, really.
@@TheDapperDragon As much as I hate to say it those mechanics aren't all that new. Hasmal's towers are standard, read the boss/arena and react accordingly, something we've had since Shiva; Mustadio's rifle is basically doom with a different safe places to look; bosses using knockbacks to place you in danger has been a thing since ARR; etc. A lot of mechanics tend to be some variation of something we've already seen before. In fact I think the only fights that brought anything new to the table was Yiazmat's use of polarity and Construct 9's basic math quiz. I will say this though, those raids have offered the most consistent and enjoyable difficulty, especially in comparison to the raids.
As for the Yoko Taro thing, I can't say the same. I'm not sure about your end, but on my end all I've seen plenty of people getting excited about the story of Dark Apocalypse since it was teased almost a year ago. Meanwhile the talk about the leggings only lasted for about a week. Plus the only reason I even know about Yoko Taro in the first place was from hearing people praise him for his interesting stories and seeing them being right by playing Automata. Again, this might just be because of differing interests/experiences, so I really can't say why you'd think that.
Choco didn’t get the 2B outfit, but he did roll a 69 on it, so I’d say he’s the true winner.
You should know in alliance raids you never win rolls unless you get 95+ (though it's never a guarantee until the 99 roll)

This raid was the reason I finally bought the game, and it’s difficult trying to rush but pay attention to the story-

I love how Rhaya was all tilted about the hacking in Neir but I enjoyed it and found it easy. Can't wait to do this raid when I finally catch up :D
Going through here blind as a SCH on day 1 was quite a blast.
And it seems Drak has taken the Bunny pill too.
Listening to the three of you put a grin on my face as I remembered my first run through that. It was I think a week two for me when I got to it. But we had the best Alliance raids, they waited so we could all see the animations, paused so we could take in the boss arena's. It was good!

Next patch should require the raid to be unlocked by completing all of the side quests in Shadowbringers.

@@calichica1986 you needed to finish like 3 different quest chains that didn't even seem related to the moogles. A lot of the later beast tribe chains were pretty bad at that but then again they didn't do any of that with the pixies.

@@calichica1986 Pixie tribes are super worth it. At top reputation you can get up to around 10 mil exp in a day (depending on your level)
I was chuckling at that comment about the moogles. I am attracted to !'s above npc heads so I had to do every single side quest as I went through msq.

The Depression and Self Doubt you get from running this Raid day 1 as a BLM was real!
Me and friends wanted to make a meme run and so we dps chose the same class- BLM.
So we were 5 BLMs at day 1 in our group. We cried.

That strafing run fucks me right up, the hitbox for that is HUGE. Also the purple balls of death for the first boss....what even is the hitbox on those things? I can be behind them and IN them, or a mile off to the sides or front and get hit.
Their accurate use of color code has me interested and terrified lol

I knew pretty much nothing about Nier before the raid, so all of the characters and locations were lost on me (though, loved the final boss music from the get-go). That said, I figured that touching the orbs would be a bad thing cause glowing pink/red orbs has never been a good thing (the final battle in Dun Scaith came to mind). Once I watched a playthrough of Nier and ran the raid again, it had more appeal.

That tunnel down to the triple-platform boss takes about 17 seconds. Which means there is absolutely no way to keep Enochian through it. Frankly I suspect that tunnel was already there and a shorter length when Yoshi-P, inspired by Yoko Taro's sense of humour, suggested extending the tunnel to 17 seconds.
I tried this raid a few days ago on a WHM. It was difficult but fun. Of course, the other healer in my group felt they were carrying everyone on their backs through healing and had to remind everyone about it. LOL

won't lie, first time I ran this I thought "Well, Drak's gonna regret running this as BLM" XD
Also had to double down as both DPS/RezMage and Healer because the two healers I had barely did anything to keep the party alive
The first time I ran this, I was one healer, and the other one couldn't stay alive to save their life. The only reason I didn't die the same amount as them was because my tank was in voice with me, and he'd already run the raid 3 times.

edit from the future: having played neir automata now, i get a few reference, and also dont see what rhaya was complaining about with the hacking..it seems actually pretty enjoyable to me..but then again i like puzzles in my games

I love the raid and seeing you guys scream your ways through was definitely a blast. But I am so immensely tired of this place too because I did it 25+ times because of the stupid 2B outfit chest until I broke down crying in frustration due to shite rolls.
Raid's still fun tho, but. Why
I personally didn't try to rush the 2b gear and music/minions. Outside trying to get actual armor upgrades I try not to run more than once a week (I end up in meme/trash team runs after reset day) I feel like RNG hated me since 4.0 raids. I used to get all the music/minions 1st run until dun Scaith (only raid minion outside NieR I don't have)
@@craigfunk3453 I feel you I did two months of near daily runs of this before I got the minion, now it's Orbonne I have that problem with because I don't have the Ramza minion yet lol

Can’t help being tilted at how zoomed in the camera is at the start
It happens occasionally if the angle of the camera is too low while zoomed out. The start ring acts as a barrier that 'blocks' the camera line of sight style so it forces it in until you move the camera up towards a birds eye view

This video show how FF14 is the best MMORPG in the world. Beautiful graphics and music. Awesome mechanics and game play, and the crossover events they implement. At the beginning of the video i thought to myself, this Raid ambient and music reminds me Nier Automata, and a few minutes later, bang... The bosses were great and the mechanics were amazing.

I feel like the hardest part of the last boss is doing the mechanics correctly while trying not to sob uncontrollably.
I think it's trying to move around for patterned missile drops + fore/hind/dual flank that gets most people. Otherwise it's pretty tame from my experience (sucks they didn't follow 2P for undock barrages)
I think it was the fact the game would lock you out when you got insta-killed by the no telegraph attacks. Glad they finally fixed it.

Nier is babies first Character Action game, wrapped up with awful softcore porn and pretentious ramblings way over the writers heads.
Copied Factory barely worked, is just copy pasted, both in environment and in mechanics, and is just god awful story wise.
I'm both hopeful and terrified of Drakengard being dragged into this, if the rumors are true.

When i first played this i was like "I never played Nier Automata but it looks so cool!" When i did the dungeon the archers top dropped and i got that on my first run ^^
I guess it's a decent piece if you didn't go for augmented crafted or something else. Iirc it didn't have good stats for ranged DPS
