Just curious (and I'm sorry, you probably already said in the video but I forgot), where did you get the instruments/plugins?
Is it just me, or is Ashton a musical genius?!!! I can’t even begin to imagine what his skill set will be in 10 years and beyond. (May you have a long and, just as important, happy life, Ashton. Thank you for your hard work from which we benefit so greatly.)
Thank you for the generous words 🙏🏻
@@AshtonGleckman soo cool
u r a real programmer.....!
It’s really not hard to transcribe pieces like this in detail and dissect them musically..
Duude no way, I was just wondering last night if you’d ever do a behind the score for this movie!!!! Thanks for all your content, really appreciate it👊👊
I’ve been trying to find this type of video for years! So glad I found this!
I'm glad you did Hunger Games. Especially Rues Farewell is one of my favorite JNH Tunes
I am convinced that one day you will be among one of the greatest film composer! Just keep pushing it
This is amazing! I'd love to hear you break down his score for "Willow (2022)" the show and how they weaved in the original film score into the music for the show. It was beautifully done! Highly recommend a listen if you have time.
These are such generous gifts to those so fascinated by orchestral music. Your insights really add to my appreciation of the original score, and your mockups show what can be achieved with sample libraries these days make it a privilege to be able to have these tools at our disposal. Enormous thanks Ashton.
That suite was fking incredible. Even better than the original, still have chills
PLEASE do the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as an update! They use so many motifs from the first 3 films throughout... ugh would love to hear your thoughts
Such phenomenal videos. The mockups are impeccable and the insight is priceless. Thank you!
great great great ashton! Thx for this work
MAN! I've been a huge fan of this movies since they came out. I´m now begining the post production process of my film thesis, and a big BIG reference of the music i want is based on THG and James Newton Howard, im not a musician but a film graduate from mexico, and THIS video has helped me a LOT to understand how a musician thinks, feels, and execute the music and analyzing this tremendous scores is even better, thank u thank u thank u for making this video
Hey man I just wanna say I’m a big fan of your videos please never stop making these!! The effort u put into these are unparalleled by any youtuber and I wish you the best of luck in your journey :)
Always look forward to your uploads.
thank you ashton for the chords explanation ! it's always a challenge not to forget notes in order to have a complete and beautiful harmony.

UA-cam Musicians are the best UA-camrs
Just amazing. I have no words.
Thank you!
Incredibly amazing
Happy to see on another Behind the score series !. Maybe if you have some time I would like to see one day: Behind the score : The Crown.
One question: what piano library did you use ?
As always I love you work and I'm also curious about Dune ;)
Thank you! The piano is the Steinway model d from embertone
Thank you ASHTON! This is HUGEEE!
edit: for future help, are you able to list some of the main libraries used (so I know how to spend my money wisely, lol)? Thanks again for doing the trilogy of The Hunger Games!
i'll just pray for you to get major placements in really awesome movies
Brilliant series Ashton! Would love to watch a "Signs" (James Newton Howard) episode! Keep going. Cheers!
Will for sure do signs eventually 🙂
THANK YOU SO MUCH
I loved this Behind the Score breakdown. It seems, from the many scores James Newton Howard has written, this is likely his best thus far.
Would you be willing to break down the score of scores of some game soundtracks; e.g. Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Gareth Coker), Assassin's Creed Revelations (Lorne Balfe); Final Fantasy 13 (Part 1 & 2) (numerous artists)? These are some of the best game soundtracks I have ever listened to.
To add, there are some genius composers like Steven Price. If you like emotional and beautiful music, him and Gareth Coker are your guys. Steven Price's A life on our planet (David Attenborough) is one of the most beautiful scores you could ever listen to, topping (I'm being honest) Narnia and others. However, a score that rivals that and is hard to find, due to release is: Diana: In her own words - Jasha Klebe (masterpiece of beauty).
Aside from my ramble, Ashton, would you be willing to check some of these out and make behind the socres of them, please?
Amazing breakdown! Hunger Games is by far my favorite of JNH too. I would have turned the background music up louder like 20% though, the only feedback i'll add
Production is incredible as always! Do you figure out the orchestration by ear, or do you reference published scores?
thank you! behind the scores are always by ear
That track with the woman singing gave me chills. It was really well done. Also, side note but didn't you do one of these for John Powell's How to train your dragon? I can't find it but I thought you did one some time back?
Haven’t done that score yet, but would love to eventually!
That is Jennifer Lawrence singing.
Amazing Ashton! At the 19:20 mark, it sounded like there were dynamics when you were playing, but I didn't see you use any expression controls. How did you accomplish that? Is it just the sample library you used?
You can get that with the right Attack and Release settings
I love how you to a "vibrato" finger motion on a keyboard, even though it doesn't do anything. (42:31) I do the same thing, and I can't help it. It's just really compelling.
I don't know if anyone saw that too, but the capitol theme is basically the waltz of the flower !
Don't know if you're into this but there are some amazing video game soundtracks. Some of my favourites:
Skyrim - Secunda
Skyrim - Ancient Stones
Witcher 3 - Kaer Morhen
Witcher 3 - Ladies of the Woods
Witcher 3 - The Slopes of the Blessure
Amazing orchestration! Thanks for this video! What string libraries did you use?
Congrats Ashton, It's amazing, and I so happy that LOGIC X again :). What kind og PADS do you use? (about 26.33) Many thanks in advance.
Great stuff! Quick question - at 30:55 is the female choir from Tallinn or Metropolis Ark 1? I have Komplete 14 CE and am slowly making my way over to Orchestral Tools and Sine (where thankfully, you don’t have to buy the whole collection) :)
I was really looking forward to this video! Hope you had a great birthday. I think you never answered that question (sorry if I'm wrong about that) but do you have perfect pitch?
Thank you! I do not have perfect pitch 🙃
Which score did you utilize to recreate in the DAW? Looking for great study scores.
Hey Ashton how ur controlling dynamics and expression? Is with daw or Midi? it will be helpful for me to learn!
thank you :)
Please look at Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! I hear so many of the same themes :)
Hi Ashton, to add to my last message. Would you be interested in taking listen another insanely beautiful/emotional piece: Reflections on a hero by Trevor Morris (Vikings Season 5 series). The last time I heard something this beautiful from him was The Tudors Season 3: The death of Jane Seymour/A howling wilderness. Utter emotion an depth within these two pieces
Whats the soundtrack's name for the one that starts at 12:27?
When UA-cam mentions copyright thing in your music composition, that tells everything.
Did you transcribe this from scratch? Or do you have a score to follow?
The Last Airbender. Terrible movie but James Newton Howard ATE! Great video man!
Any reason as to why you don’t have the link for the stems along with the midi files? Just curious as to why you’ve stopped uploading the stems as well…
I have not uploaded stems for more than a year now. It just took a lot of time and most people were not downloading them.
@@AshtonGleckman ahhh ok, got you, I was asking cause I’ve been a subscriber for a long time and it was always interesting to listen to the the stems of each section by itself in your arrangement to see how one section plays along with the others, I found it very fascinating, especially your behind the score of interstellar. But still, big fan of your work and original music as well and love what you do👊👊👊
