The North River is down South and the New River is the 3rd oldest River in the world. Makes perfect sense. Trees like your "elbow tree" are known as "thong trees." Native Americans often tied a cord (thong) to them to bend them that way in order to point to a nearby resource like a reliable water or deposits of flint. Some trees like that, however, can end up that way due to natural causes, like being blown over in a storm and continuing to grow after.

Lol about the tadpoles in the water bottle. The One tent looks like a nice upgrade.

So far I'm loving The One. It did well in snow but I've yet to test in heavy rain. It's been surprisingly durable for the weight though!

My 2 buddies and I were on that trail Memorial day weekend too. We also got turned around at the fork for Dowells and white oak. After running out of water and returning to the fork, we took a detour following dowells 3 miles down the mountain to get water, after that we just called quits and headed back to the parking lot. But we’re definitely wanting to complete the whole loop sometime soon!

Glad I wasn't the only one getting turned around out there lol. It's definitely worth doing the whole thing if you have a chance to go back.

Your videos are awesome! Real.. and the fact that you create your own soundtrack is amazing. I love how you handle adversity... Always great stuff!

Nice video. I did a LASH on the AT last spring, and went the wrong way for 2 1/2 miles one morning before I realized it. It added an extra 5 miles to an already long day, and given that I’ve been hiking for over 40 years it was a big blow to my ego. LOL.
I’m glad you didn’t try that dicey river crossing. It looked like maybe the trail actually went that way but the route you took was a bypass option.

Lol I think most of us have done a few ~bonus miles~ at least once in our hiking careers, there's no shame in it 😆. And for sure, I think the way I went must be used as a high water route.

The chair was in that spot because their is an amazing view in the winter! Honestly, Missy. Didn't you learn anything from me?

Ah yes, your favorite adage, "That'd be a good view in the winter" 😂

Great video, thanks. I’m always looking for trails that fewer people take. I think that’s within a couple hours of me so I’ll be checking it out. Your hiking style is a lot like mine except this old body cannot do those miles.

Loved the video! It was informative and suspenseful. Felt like I was also on the trail and trying to find solutions to the dilemmas.
