This hit from Simply Red was heard on the Miami Vice episode, Trust Fund Pirates, which aired on May 2, 1986. When this aired I was in US Navy basic training in Great Lakes, IL on my P-3 day, so I missed it as access to TV and radio were limited.
@pilgerman Thank you so much for sharing this tale with me. Yes, this man is massively talented...he knows the right words and nuances and music in which to reach into our souls and bodies and tear out only what matters...today, tomorrow and forever....This man has helped our generation reach out and touch one another with passion, soul and love...Thank you Mick! Love, Peace & Joy to all of you, Love, Bridgette (from Canada) xooxxoo
Absolutely magical---a song for one another and especially for our children! Perhaps we should all play this song for our kids and those we love deeply, to let me them know how very much we believe in them! We all need to know that people believe in us and that we matter; this I believe, is an intrinsic need that is not always expressed.. Wishing you Peace, Love & Joy, Love, Bridgette xooxox
This song reminds me of "Philadelphia" the movie with Tom Hanks, though not sung by Simply Red but it was the first time I had the chance to listen it. Amazing song.
~ oh THANK U MILLLIONS OF TIMES OVER 4 POSTING & ADDING UR " MOST PERFECT VIDEO " ,,,,,,,,,, .....MAY THIS BEE THE BEST YEAR YET 4 U OH YOUNG MAN, SOLDATO, YOUTH, CHILD.......... HEAVEN ON EARTH MY CHILD. HEAVEN ON EARTH MY SON. 4EVER IN MY PRAYERS. SAINT PIO & CO
Though the Talking Heads did this song originally on their FEAR OF MUSIC album back in 1977, Mick gives it his spin and knocks it out of the park; such soulfulness that the original pales by comparison. Mick has the ability to take any song and makes it his. Too bad Mick hasn't been more acclaimed; unique sound and spirit.
This song in my opinion has very significant meaning to it. It is real heavy. It means that when we pass on there is not afterlife. Did you know that? Think about these lyrics "Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens." If you listen very carefully to the lyrics of this song and you can comprehend this, you will see that it means that all of the people in this world that are getting ready for an blissful after life are delusional and that there is no afterlife. This song is so impressive both musically and lyrically. It is in a high realm beyond most songs. This is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my lifetime.
Kirk, I respectfully disagree! Many people in my family are scientists, and I have studied quantum physics for years. I have come to the conclusion that there is an afterlife, but not what most people think of at all. The energy that makes up pure vibrant conscientious, is not just chemical in nature, it reaches deeper into the subatomic energy field that makes up the universe, and all dimensions in the multi-verse. Everything you see and touch is really empty space; and illusion if you will. Everything is made from atoms. Every atom in the universe is 99.9999999999999% nothing! The nucleus in the center of all atoms is 99.999999999999999% nothing. The electrons and protons that spin around the nucleus are also NOT made of any material as such, and are 99.99999999999999999% nothing as well. And it's all empty space in between the nucleus and electrons and protons. If you could look at everything at the subatomic level, you would realize that this whole thing we are in is an illusion, a hologram of energy that vibrates at a frequency set for this dimension. Time is an illusion as well. It's linear here at this frequency, but it's most likely singular at other frequencies. Which brings me to the so called afterlife. The spirit realm is probably of that frequency. There is no yesterday today, or tomorrow there. No sleep, no eating, no having to go to the bathroom. No singing hymns all day, as some Christians would like to believe. Nothing is physical in nature there. It is a stripped down dimension. A home base where all of the building blocks of conscientious are derived from. More scientists than ever are coming to this conclusion Kirk, especially in the field of quantum physics. This is why the most expensive piece of scientific equipment ever in the history of humanity has been assembled. It's a huge atom super collider that 30 different world governments are working on together. They are trying to find the "GOD PARTICLE". There is a reason that scientists have given it this name. They are starting to see that the universe itself, is of an intelligent design. Science and spirituality are converging very rapidly. Religion is a man made thing, and has nothing to do with what I'm writing about here. This place is most likely a souls physical testing realm, to test and judge a souls character. This is why everything here is made up of duality's. No up without a down, no hot without cold, black without white, left without right, good without evil, happiness without sadness, life without death. Hell, you can't even run an electrical circuit here without positive on one end and negative on the other! Even though I'm not a religious person, I still believe in an all powerful force that I choose to call God. Trust me people, hes not an old guy with a grey beard up in the clouds, Lol. However, I would caution atheists who think they will not be held accountable for their actions in this life. You should always try to be a good person. I try to treat others, they way I want to be treated. It would be such a nice world to live in if everyone lived by that rule. That's a pipe dream though, because as we all know, human nature has it's ugly side! But don't forget about the good side as well. Kirk, no hard feelings if you don't agree with me. Please check out my music channel MusicLoot. Go into the playlists tab. You will find a lot of music I'm sure you will like. Peace!
I agree that we should all treat others the same as we would want to be treated, the golden rule. I do believe that the meaning of this song is that when we pass on, it will be nothing because we will be non-existent. I am alive and my mission is merely to survive.
KirkSH52 Well then sir, I hope you will survive as long as humanly possible! God bless you as well. Did you get a chance to check out my music channel? If you like, please subscribe. Thanks!
Perfect example of trying to use science to accomodate your religious or spiritual views... Wheres one solid piece of evidence of this hypothesis you've imagined? It is interesting, it is, but it stops there...
This man and I don't know what his name is, is so talented. This is one of the greatest soft rock songs I have ever heard in my life. This man is so incredible in my opinion. The lyrics are so clever and the song is so deep. I interpret this as when we die there is nothing awaiting us at the end, no heaven. They played this song on an episode of Miami Vice and it was spectacular. Spectacular is how I would describe it. I have never heard such amazing musical talent and I am musical. Thanks.
David Byrne of The Talking Heads may have written this song, but Mick takes it to....a.....whole.....'nother.....level. Reinterpreting it and infusing with _soul_ .
thomas washington - I first heard it at my first husbands funeral. He was a very well known bar tender in Vegas. God rest his soul. He had a huge heart.
Tutti cercano di arrivare al bar ... Il nome del bar? Il bar si chiama Paradiso. La band in cielo, suona la mia canzone preferita. si, la suonano ancora una volta, la suonano tutta la notte, si tutta la notte...
@scottmrdoch so says a Simply Red fan. Talking Heads were one of the most ground-breaking, original and exciting bands of the last 40 years. Simply Red is one ginger bell-end who outstayed his welcome and went on to front The Faces because Rod Stewart couldn't be bothered... just thought i would say
No offence, but pilgerman is talkingout of his/her arse. The original of this is much better. This just sounds like a throwaway Van Morrison b-side. Thousands of songs sound like this (production-wise). The original is beautiful and unique.
@Geshreeyeh haha , not that many people to be fair , i love simply red i grew up listening to them so maybe im biased , i really like talking heads just prefer this version of the song thats all pal , calm down calm down
David A,
This was one of the songs of our courtship. Although that time did not last, the child is my crowning glory...
