Of course, he makes movies with the same theme, but the visual storytelling of his movies and the way he makes us feel for his characters is pure world class. The visual storytelling in Karnan and Pariyerum Perumal is something which I haven't seen in any other Indian movies.
Absolutely. I mean I've seen directors makng us emotional through words, acting and music. Mari makes us emotional thorugh his visuals. Can't forget the scene where in Karnan, during miliary test, the last person tries his best to cross the finishing line

Let's see the theatrical footfall response for Vaazhai and decide it. Tamil audience are too hero centric. Malayalam has better theatre audience for content films.

True. However, was disappointed wth Thangalaan although it had it's fantastic moments. These days I'm liking Mari more. His PP and Karnan were the greatest. Pa Ranjth seems more like a politician and who puts revisionist history - making it easier to question his motives. Where as, Mari Selvaraj makes his films with more honesty, like a social reformer.

If you critque brahminsm - whose adherents are NOT even aware of that name, you are just spouting whatever you have read. Mari critques everything but with an understanding of the subject. There is a probability of people changing watching Mari's movies than Ranjith's movies because pyscologically or factually it doesn't feel right. I have immense respect for both. Just the way society and pscology works, Mari's movies are better.

"பஞ்சு மிட்டாய் சேலை கட்டி" என்ற பாடல் நெப்போலியன் ஊர்வசி மற்றும் குஷ்புவை மறக்கடிக்க செய்து பின்பு விஷாலையும் S J சூர்யா நடித்த மார்க் அந்தோணி வையும் நினைவுபடுத்தி அழுத்தமாக பதிய வைத்திருந்தது.... தற்போது இரண்டு படத்தையும் தூக்கிப் போடும் வகையில் "பஞ்சு மிட்டாய் சேலை கட்டி" என்ற பாடலை கேட்டால் பள்ளியில் ஆண்டு விழாவிற்கு நடன பயிற்சி கற்றுக் கொடுக்கும் ஆசிரியரான "நிகிலா விமலை" நிச்சயம் நினைவுபடுத்தும் என்பது மறுக்க முடியாத உண்மை. முடிவாக படத்தில் ஒரு காட்சியில் மலையாளத்து நடிகை நிகிலா விமல் "குடிமையியல்' என்ற ஒரு வார்த்தையை வகுப்பறையில் உள்ள கரும்பலையில் அவரே எழுதினார் என்று சிலர் பிரமித்து போய் பேசுகின்றனர் ஆனால் உண்மையில் கவனிக்க வேண்டியது "வாழை மூலமாக இந்த மக்களின் வாழ்வியலை" அவ்வளவு அழகாக எடுத்த மாரிக்கு தான் நன்றி சொல்ல வேண்டும். ✍️✍️✍️சுரேஷ்

வாழை திரைப்படத்தை நேற்று இரவு பார்த்தேன்.மிக நீண்ட படம் போல...
திரையில் ஓடியது என்னமோ இரண்டு மணி நேரம் 14 நிமிடங்கள் (2hrs 14 mins).
ஆனால் மனத்திரையில் இன்னமும் ஓடிக் கொண்டுதான் இருக்கிறது.
ஒடுக்கப்பட்ட மக்கள் தங்களுடைய அன்றாட வாழ்வை (தங்களின் எதிர்காலத்திற்காக அல்லாமல்) நகர்த்த கூலி ஆட்களாய் அருகில் உள்ள கிராமத்தில் வாழைத் தோட்டத்தில் வாழைத்தாறுகளை சுமந்து சென்று லாரியில் ஏற்றி அதில் வரும் சொற்ப காசுகளை வைத்து குடும்பம் நடத்துகின்றனர்.
அதில் ஒரு புரட்சியாளன் (உரிமைக்காக குரல் கொடுப்பவன்) கூலிக்காக ஒரு ரூபாயை ஏற்றி கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்ற கோரிக்கை வைத்து அதை தன்னுடைய மக்களுக்காக பெற்றுத் தருகிறான்.
பாட்டாளி வர்க்கத்தின் உரிமைக்கு குரல் கொடுக்கும் புரட்சியாளன் கைகளில் சிவப்பு துணியை ஏந்தி தான் ஆக வேண்டும் அல்லாமல் அதற்கு மாறாக தன் காதலி கொடுத்த மருதாணியினால் சிவந்த கைகளாக கூட இருக்கலாம் என்பது இந்த படம் உணர்த்துகிறது.
கூலியை ஒரு ரூபாய் அதிகம் கேட்டதற்காக அதற்குப் பழி வாங்கும் விதமாக அந்த வியாபாரி எடுத்த அற்பத்தனமான முடிவு அந்த கிராமத்தையே ஒரு சோகத்தில் மூழ்கடிக்கும் என்பது அவன் பின்னர் அறியும்போது அவனுக்குள் ஓரமாய் ஒட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்த மனித நேயம் இந்தியன் படத்தில் சந்துரு என்ற கதாபாத்திரத்தை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது.
இந்த வட்டத்திற்குள் சிக்காமல் எட்டாம் வகுப்பு படிக்கும் "சிவநைந்தன்" என்ற பள்ளி மாணவன் ஒருவன் தவிர்க்க முடியாத சில நேரங்களில் வாழைத்தாரை சுமந்து செல்வதும்; தவிர்க்க முடிந்த நேரங்களில் பள்ளிக்கு செல்வதை உறுதியாக இருந்தான்.
அதில் சில உணர்வுபூர்வமான காரணங்கள் இருந்தாலும் அது மட்டும் தான் காரணம் என்று எண்ண முடியாத அளவில் அவன் படிப்பிலும் சிறந்து விளங்கினான் என்பதே உண்மை.
தன்னுடைய உள்ளுணர்வையும் அதனை இயக்கிய குடுகுடுப்பைக்காரனின் குடுகுடுப்பும் மற்றும் தன்னுடைய பள்ளி ஆசிரியை ஆன பூங்கொடியின் மீது கொண்ட நேசத்தினை மதித்து அதை நோக்கி அவன் சென்றதனால் அவன் பிழைத்துக் கொண்டான் என்பது நாம் படத்தில் காணும் உண்மை.
கடும் பசியே ஒரு சோகம் ; அதிலும் கடும் பசியில் சோகத்தை எதிர் நோக்குவது என்பது சோகத்திலும் சோகம். இப்படி அடுத்தடுத்த சோகங்களை அவனை துரத்த அதிலிருந்து மீள விவேகம் இழந்து ஓடி ஒரு இடத்தில் தடுக்கி விழுகின்றான்.
ஆம்
வாழையடி வாழையாக குடும்பம் தழைக்க வேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கத்துடன் வாழை மரத்தை கட்டுகிறார்கள்.
ஆனால் இங்கோ
இனி நாம் பிழைப்பதற்கு வாழை நிச்சயம் வழி வகுக்காது என்று எண்ணி வேறு திசையில் தான் நம் வாழ்க்கை நகர்த்த வேண்டும் எண்ணம் அவனுக்கு அந்த நேரத்தில் தரிசனமாய் தோன்றியிருக்கக்கூடும்.
படத்தில் உள்ள சின்ன சின்ன காட்சிகளை நாம் உன்னிப்பாக கவனித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் பொழுது சின்ன சின்ன உயிரினங்களும் திரையில் அவர்கள் வாழும் வாழ்க்கையை உன்னிப்பாக கவனித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதையும் நாம் காண முடிகிறது .
இதனாலேயே என்னமோ தெரியவில்லை சிவனைந்தன் வீட்டில் வளர்த்த மாடு ஒரு காட்சியில் தங்களுக்கு துரோகம் இழைத்த இடைத்தரகர் வாழைத் தோட்டத்தில் இறங்கி தன் வேலையை காட்டி இருக்கும்.

தற்போது இரண்டு படத்தையும் தூக்கிப் போடும் வகையில்

முடிவாக படத்தில் ஒரு காட்சியில் மலையாளத்து நடிகை நிகிலா விமல் "குடிமையியல்' என்ற ஒரு வார்த்தையை வகுப்பறையில் உள்ள கரும்பலையில் அவரே எழுதினார் என்று சிலர் பிரமித்து போய் பேசுகின்றனர்
ஆனால் உண்மையில் கவனிக்க வேண்டியது "வாழை மூலமாக இந்த மக்களின் வாழ்வியலை" அவ்வளவு அழகாக எடுத்த மாரிக்கு தான் நன்றி சொல்ல வேண்டும்.
