    Ooh...I love me some *BIG* South Sea (and Tahitian) pearls too...I have a small collection of loose SS/Tahitian pearls...ranging up to 22-mm!!! They are not perfect, like the ones shown in this video, but they each have their own 'personality'...I just LOVE them!!! Thanks so much for your wonderful channel...💗💗💗

      I love akoyas. Thanks! I would be interested in a video explaining all the kinds of unique/odd pearls like soufflés, Edison, keshi, biwa, pondslime, etc. These are words I have been making a list of and haven’t learned about all of them yet.

    Thank you for your videos, it’s so hard to understand the value! Can you please make a video about baroque pearls, and if you can can you comment the collection of MIKIMOTO Comme des Garçons - value and design

    I really love the colors of freshwater pearls. Their deficiency in roundness doesn't bother me, most of the historic pearls that were owned by royalty were not perfectly round either. Freshwater pearls are actually closer to natural pearls because they're completely made of nacre, no bead nucleus (aside from edison freshwater pearls).

      I love them too -- I have definitely seen high-quality freshwater pearls that are more beautiful than the average saltwater pearl! Freshwaters get a bad rap, but they are GORGEOUS! You might be interested to know that many saltwater pearls use shell nuclei made from freshwater mussel shells. Traditionally, freshwater pearls were grafted with mantle tissue only and not a bead nucleus. However, many new freshwater pearls are grown with either a shell bead nucleus, a pearl nucleus, or an "earthen matter" nucleus. (Tbh, I'm not quite sure what the "earthen matter" is...) It's all become quite complicated over the years -- but it's discussed at length in CPAA's Pearls As One course as well as on pearl-guide! :)

    I don’t get why big pearls are so sought after. 🤔They look ridiculous. 😳6-8 mm is the ideal size for a string of pearls.

    • @JewelsoftheTrade
      @JewelsoftheTrade  8 місяців тому +5

      Personally, I love big pearls (unpopular opinion: I LOVE big baroque pearls...lol!) but I definitely think 6-8mm are ideal sizes for everyday wear. With 6-8mm, you can layer your strand with other necklaces, dress them up for a fancy dinner, or wear them to the grocery store with jeans and a t-shirt. You can't go wrong! :)

      Smaller pearls are great for necklaces, but large pearls are a centerpiece in a variety of jewelry styles

    MEH. Not a one of the pearls they showed had the luster of a Good Majorca pearl. Did all of the Majorca oysters die off? sarc.

    • @JewelsoftheTrade
      @JewelsoftheTrade  8 місяців тому

      Hahaha! Your comment gave me a good laugh! I would love to get my hands on some Majorica pearls for a video. I've actually never seen them in person, but I've heard they are quite convincing fakes and quite beautiful. There are some great photo examples of Majoricas and other pearl simulants on pearl-guide.
