The more I think of it, the weirder it gets realizing there are still more GDC talks from 2019 we haven't seen yet
There are tons of GDC talks from all the years you've never seen on UA-cam. You need access to The Vault to see them all. Most of the best talks are on UA-cam, but some niche gems are still behind the paywall.
Fun fact:
This isn't a video but rather a 30 minute GIF with sound. It really gives you a good taste of what the talk is about.
This is very good. Speaking for myself, not only do well-chosen gifs give me an overview of the game I couldn't get from a screenshot and without needing me to stop scrolling to look, but well-made gifs can make a project look a lot more professional. I've never bought a game because the gifs looked good, but it is at least half the reason that I will read the full description or watch the preview video, and that's where I often decide to buy it.
Plus there are plenty of games that got posted a lot because they had good comedy gifs, and drew my attention because they were everywhere.
holy kojima, i've been waiting for a video on this exact topic for ages. never been so hyped for a god damn seminar
Really nice video i would like to see more pr videos
Me too
Interesting and informative talk. Thanks GDC.
Such an incredible talk!
I've seen a ton of stylish gifs on Twitter, but they never work for me. I always forget the game within seconds of looking away from it, and most of the gifs featured don't let you know what the game is called.
This may be a great opportunity for indie games to steal the format for those 5-second movie trailers: they show a cool scene from the movie, then tell you what the title is and when to expect more info about the movie in the near future
I don't even need to look for the title of the Twitter account to know what the product's name is
this is so cool, thanks!
Great video :) really needed this, as I'm now starting to look at using GIFs for future self-marketing for my upcoming game, Neyyah :)
This guy must be the CEO of GDC by now
On one hand, I'd like lots of people to enjoy a game I made. On the other hand, the sites listed in this talk aren't known for having the best clientele. Then again, are there any social websites that DO have a good clientele?
I suppose that's the downside of sharing things on the Internet; someone you never wanted to share it with may eventually see it, and Lord knows what they'll do with it.
Great talk! On a side note, some email systems automatically block all images, so maybe don't rely on gifs in emails. ^_^;;
i dont think you should care about those. 80% of people use gmail, and the rest maybe yahoo and hotmail in default settings.
Hide steam key in a gif might be a cool one

3:50 "How to really pronounce gif. Gif(t)"
Hah! I WIN!!
How do you pronounce gin?
There are people still making .GIFs instead of .WEBMs?
What do you mean 5 seconds? The video's half an hour long?!
it is only a jif, when it is a furry image.
Gif sounds much better than Jif, because jifz sounds like jizz man :/
Gifs doesn't sound like jizz. It's gifs not gifz
It's pronounced just like gin.
