How To Make A Midcentury Bookcase For Way Cheaper Than Buying One

- Welcome to BCB's How-To series. I just finished making a midcentury bookcase because anything I was seeing online was way more than I wanted to spend and I couldn't find exactly what I had in mind. I thought I would make a video to show how easy it is to do it yourself for way cheaper than buying one. I kept the design super simple and got my wood cut at the hardware store (for free) to show that anyone can do this with a minimal amount of tools. Hopefully after watching this, you'll want to build something too. Either way, you're for sure going to save some money if you take on this project and it's going to look just as good as if you bought it.
If you have any questions beyond what's in this vid, feel free to leave it in the comment section and I'll definitely do my best to give you a good answer. As a disclaimer, I'm just an ordinary DIYer, so you can totally build something like this too :)
Thanks again for watching and good luck building your bookcase!

Thanks again for watching if you're still reading at this point :) - Навчання та стиль
hopefully this vid inspires you to build something yourself and save a little money while you’re doing it. appreciate you taking the time to watch. let me know if you have any questions about anything :)
it's obviously a color organ!!! look at the colors. the bookshelf looks great. best how to video I found for this with the perfect amount of attitude, thank u much
ha. totally. thank YOU for taking the time to watch!
Wonderful as always, Marcel.
thanks for taking the time to watch. this is just a small whatever project, so hopefully it was at least a little entertaining.
The bookshelf turned out awesome! And the video felt quite high quality and I was surprised this isn't like a 100k channel! Keep it up! The vibes are great 👌🏻
this comment is so nice! really appreciate your kind words and you taking the time to watch. appreciate it!!
For whatever reason my favorite part of making furniture is sawing parts and doing hidden fancy joinery. But your video style feels really fresh to me and I really enjoyed it, despite not having the usual parts that I tend to seek out.
I think it's great that diy projects allow for anyone to find the angle that makes it enjoyable for themselves, even though I'm my case it can turn a bit masochistic due to my aforementioned hangups!
Anyway, that's a long-winded comment from a wordy Norwegian who really liked your video about a shelf!
your comment makes me happy. thanks for watching!
I like that you didn't use $18,000 worth of power tools.
thanks! dig your username :)
What are the measurements of the bookcase? and the measurements for the boards? Thanks!
hey erica! i used 1in. x 8in. x 6ft. pine boards. think i ended up going with 36 in. for the width of it. i took a smidge off the ends of the two boards that i used for the side pieces to accommodate the legs that i attached on the bottom. the ceilings aren’t super high in our basement so overall it was 7 feet tall with the legs. i have all the links to everything i bought in the description. hope that answers your question. thanks for watching and lemme know if you want to know anything else :)
Marcel….love that disco organ. Great job. Bookcase looks awesome.
thanks mark!! i love it too :)
It's very beautiful and a wonderful job!!!! I wonder why you didn't use more wood screws though instead of nails. The legs give it a very nice modern look.
thanks so much! i love those legs. always use them when i build something that calls for legs :) and i did use screws to put it together. the only time i used nails was when i attached the backing for the unit with some finishing nails.
Wait where did he get the legs/how did he make them??
hi! i wish i was that skilled. i put links in the description of where i got them :)
Looks awesome and the "color organ" is perfectly weird and cool 😅👌
super weird. i literally built the bookcase just for that. appreciate you watching!
omg, are you doing a parody voice or is that how you really talk?? 😂😂😂
Why do you go UP at the end of every sentence?? I thought that was for valley girls and maybe chicks from Oregon or the OC lol. Trippin me out.
i grew up in california, so i’m not surprised to hear that i sound like a valley girl 🙃
As usual another perfect project..love it
thanks joooooy :)
I love your content
thanks so much! 🥰
love it!
thanks b :)
