OG TG 1 was the best. Each person has different feet, different iterations work best for different folks. I had the 3 it was weird. I am on the 5 now, love it, I am going to order a bunch more TG 5's. TGs are the best rock-climbing and scrambling shoes!! They turn you into Spiderman. TG 7 does look interesting with its improvements. Might check out at a store. Great video.

Its funny reading these comments. I first bought TG2's a decade ago. They were my favorite. Bought the 3's then 4's. Hated them both, but the 4s were better than the 3s. Nothing was like the 2's. They truly felt like 'gloves' for my feet, so flexible, so form fitting. Perfect. No subsequent version have felt that way.
Seems everyone here (myself included) likes the first version they bought and every subsequent version is garbage in comparison. I just wish they'd go back to the truly minimal build of the originals and the 2's. Oh well. Old man shakes fist at cloud.

haha, I thought the same thing in the running section of the video, ouch! I've never seen a barefoot runner run landing on the heels. The day I switched to barefoot shoes my body instinctively started landing on my forefoot when running.

yep, agree... Ended up buying the remaining 4s from all over the world in my size... tried and returned the 5 + 6, but happy with the 7 now. Worth getting, though sole design is not very durable. wish they did the Xero soles on the TG 7 shoes!

I don't know what Merrell is thinking, every version has been worse than the one before it. With the original Trail Glove, people would complement me all the time on them and ask questions about them. That hasn't happened for a long time. I think they keep selling trail gloves because people liked the older versions, not because it's still a good shoe. If they even did a brief re-release of the original trail gloves I'd buy 20 pairs. This trail glove 7 makes me desperate to find an alternative.

Interesting. I have the 5 it's pretty good -- but I yea the original TG 1 was perfection. I'd buy 10 of those if I could. They are so good for rock climbing, scrambling, hiking in places like Yosemite. They are seemingly invincible to abuse!

  • @deanb61

The v5 was my first trail glove and is still my favourite shoe for general use, although my pair is very worn now. The v6 was a disaster, no idea what they were thinking. The v7 is better, I don't think it's quite as good as the v5, but it's close.

I’ve used tg 1-7 for the past 10 years. I can’t say any of them were terrible, however I don’t understand why they change the design so much for seemingly no reason.
Meh, I’ll just continue to buy the latest version or whatever has the steepest discounts

Thanks, I just returned a pair of 6’s, I’m considering 7’s. Tried Vapor luna leather, not sure how I feel about it. I love the new buck leather & look of them, but they might be too barefoot for me, I put some insoles in them, they help but they might get returned for the trail glove 7’s, I wish they made leather trail glove 7’s.

Which Merrell available would be a good next step towards barefoot shoes from Altra’s that would be good for every day wear and especially training in the gym? Or another brand and model that’d be good for very high arches?

Still believethe trail glove 4 was the pinnacle of barefoot trail running shoes (even though the upper lining cracked quickly where it creased). TG 5 were terrible (pushing the arch up), and TG 6 even worse! Used the Xero Mesa for a bit, but uncomfortable on long runs (>60kms). But now... TADAAAA!!! Trail Glove 7 are now back and they feel good! Thank you Merrell! Still work to do on the Vibram outsoles - they wear down VERY VERY quickly. Not good for trails after about 5 weeks (2-300km). I now own 3 pairs of TG 7 road runners with no tread:) Still my preference over anything else.

I love the 4s too. I bought them used, and they still last for years! Now the mesh starts getting getting little holes (I repair with superglue), but the sole is still intact! I tried the 5s, an I hate them, the sole is too hard ... Please Merrell, remake the 4s-Series!!!

  • @DrChappyWood
    @DrChappyWood 10 місяців тому +2

The TG 5's are the best. Wider toe box but you can snug it up. I bought the 7s and I returned them immediately. I have medium to wide forefoot and they have been squished for years. My pinky toes has been abused. The 5s let me wiggle freely while maintaining a tight mid foot and heel cup. I can cinch em up when doing some heavy lifts. I used the 5s for every day and trail hikes and they last a long time. I bought the vapor glove 7s and they have a wider toe box. They are ok but the treads wear super fast. They are too minimal for me but I'll use them for when I'm working in the clinic on patients and I'm squatting and demonstrating movement patterns. If the TG 7s had a wider toe box...then I'm in.

This is a strange one because the trial gloves 6 is a little narrow and definitely didn’t last, but the fit for my foot was probably the best shoe I’ve ever owned. It’s definitely not a barefoot shoe… but it is great for super high arch people who want to transition to barefoot shoes. It’s helped me transition into the 7.

I´d have a question on sitzing: Do you also feel you have to size down with Merrell Trail Gloves (and also Vapor gloves) like 1/2 or even 1 size compared to let´s say "regular" (so not minimal) trail runners like Salomon Speedcross?

These are IMO the best shoes ive ever owned. I have a bunch of Vivos also but the little bit of extra cushioning is just nice when walking on alot of hard surfaces or stepping on pine cones and whatnot. If youre thinking about going over to a foot style shoe with 0 drop then i HIGHLY recommend.
