When people tell me they want to learn to sew, I warn them that it will absolutely ruin them for off-the-shelf items. They will expect every article of clothing and gear to be bespoke or, at a minimum, altered to their specific needs. The project list quickly becomes infinite. Haha! Thanks for sharing the thought process behind your projects. The creative process is fascinating and fun. And thanks for always encouraging and enabling your customers to DIY. We learn much more about gear that way and it helps us to appreciate the well-made gear we do buy.
Interesting stuff Dutch, thanks for sharing some history. I truly love my double layer Chameleon setup with the new JRB under quilt. Live long and prosper.
Awesome i make my gear for cost but also diferent requirements. Here in Louisanna everything gets wet and instead of down decided to use climashield. Made my own jungle hammock two layers because mesqutos get throgh one. Full lenth underquilt made it a boxed desighn just for as you were saying not to compress all the loft. Also made a underquilt protector for wind block and driving rain protection. and actualy recently finished my top quilt. Getting ready to remake a tarp realy prefere a witer time quilt with doors i can always fold them up or also thinking of making them detachable either way. Also enjoy making the suspencion woopisling and a UCR ridgeline. I was just looking at your website a few days ago going to go with the continuous ridgeline and looking at the dutch hook and wasp. As of now my tarp is two ridglines and knots to ajust. LOL the prusick route looks to be a great solution. Also going to change my tree strap now using cheap daisy chain tree straps and wanting to go with marline spike hitch so can get up higher and closer to some trees the daisy chain loops seem to put me futher away sometimes the woopie slings do make up ajustment in most cases but have found when trees are close its harder to get it right? This is my first evolution of making my gear so underquilt and top quilt are a bit bulky so there will be future builds to refine bulk and weight. Oh also dynema is awesome i also made my first dry bag now looking to making a larger one mabe even pack size to keep pack contents dry no matter what. Look foward to videos
Whatever happened to the DCF waterproof-breathable fabric? It was 1.2oz/yd and 55k-breathability (eVent/PTFE bonded to dcf). Even EE's 80k-breathability wpb nylon/PTFE would be useful? DiY'ers can't get our hands on these advanced materials anymore? Can Dutchware be the distributor of these breathable fabrics?
You might have just convinced me to try and make some of my own gear
You should try it! It's lots of fun!
Congrats Jim Anderson on winning the Dutch DIY quilt!
Woot!

You didn't want people with dirty hands touching your works of art. 😂
