In his work "1984" George Orwell wrote about the NewSpeak which is an experiment to reduce the language, according to one of the protagonist of the book if you reduce your vocabulary you will reduce your thoughts as well. Of course Orwell was ironical mind you in my opinion that is exactly why it is so important improving our vocabulary, learning new words in order to enhance our way of thinking. Thank you so much Lisa. I always feel like a caveman when I speak English, I am not good at speaking English and I feel frustrated sometimes because my thoughts don't find the right way to be expressed and they remain in my mind. Thanks to your videos I feel a bit more confidence every day

Mathematics used to be one of the inconceivably difficult subjects for me when I was in secondary school. The mathematical sums looked unimaginably hard to solve at that time. I was extremely stressed out during Mathematics written assessments because I was woefully unprepared for the exams. The arrival of my saviour had unmistakably altered my life. My attitude towards Mathematics vastly improved because of Ms Gee. My secondary 3 Mathematics teacher, Ms Gee was undeniably kind and patient to all her students and colleagues. Her lessons were taught exceedingly well. I was utterly impressed by her tremendously beneficial explanations. My math grades improved dramatically and I was particularly excited when I received my o levels results. I scored an A for Mathematics! Thanks, Ms Gee! Thanks Lisa for the exceptionally well-explained English lessons! You are indeed one of the best English teachers!

Repetition is the key to dramatically improve your English. The mistake that most people make is to try to learn more advanced words in a short space of time, but end up not using those words in real life situation. I personally spend more time in fewer words until they become ingrained in my mind before I attempt to learn the new ones. This strategy has helped me enormously to develop a comprehensive grasp for this language, and enables me to use such advanced terms spontaneously.

    Hi Lisa,
I loved this video, which is quite useful mainly because VERY cannot be used to qualify EXTREME ADJECTIVES (you might want to make a video about this aspect of the English language which is not often covered by other English teachers and not many students are sharply aware of). With your permission, I would like to share my notes from my language school regarding EXTREME ADJECTIVES and REGULAR ADJECTIVES:
    A. REGULAR ADJECTIVES (comparative and superlative -> possible)
Regular adjectives (also called gradable) are for example: cold, expensive… You can be very cold or a bit cold, rather cold or extremely cold. Regular adjectives show that something can be graded to different levels. These are some of the adverbs that are used before regular adjectives, but NEVER with extreme adjectives:
    -----------------------------------------------
a little/a bit, slightly, fairly, very, not very, somewhat, rather, extremely/incredibly, immensely, hugely, exceedingly, intensely, reasonably, fantastically, unusually, dreadfully and quite (meaning “fairly” or “very”).
    -----------------------------------------------
    B. EXTREME ADJECTIVES (comparative or superlative -> not possible)
Extreme adjectives (also known as non-gradable) are for example: freezing, exhausted, etc. They already have the intrinsic meaning of “very/extremely” (e.g. the weather cannot be “a little bit freezing” or “very freezing”). Here are some of the adverbs that are typically used before extreme adjectives (not with regular ones):
    -----------------------------------------------
absolutely, completely, totally, entirely, utterly, perfectly, simply, virtually, almost, nearly and quite (meaning “absolutely).
    -----------------------------------------------
EXCEPTION to the rule: PRETTY and REALLY can be used with both regular and extreme adjectives:
This room is pretty dirty/filthy The party is really crowded/packed
List of regular adjectives with their extreme forms:
    REGULAR EXTREME
    angry furious, seething, livid, exasperated
bad awful, terrible, horrible, dreadful, atrocious, abominable, disastrous
big huge, gigantic, giant, enormous, massive
    clean spotless
    cold freezing
    crowded packed
    dirty filthy
    funny/amusing hilarious, side-splitting, hysterical
good wonderful, fantastic, excellent, fabulous, terrific, outstanding
    superb, amazing, awesome, brilliant…
    hot boiling, sweltering, scorching
    hungry starving
interesting fascinating, riveting, engrossing, captivating, gripping
    old ancient
    pretty beautiful, gorgeous
    scary, frightening terrifying, petrifying
    small tiny, minute
    surprising astounding
    tired/sleepy exhausted, shattered
    ugly hideous, grotesque
    loud deafening, ear-splitting
    wet soaked, soaking, sopping
I hope all this information can help advanced students in the same positive way it did to me. I wasn't aware of this and tended to use VERY with extreme adjectives.
    That's all.
    Thank you.
    Stay safe.

    • @raed2178
      @raed2178 4 роки тому +6

Actually these words are pretty common:
      2- exceedingly
      4- utterly
      5- dramatically
      6- unimaginably
      8- extremely
      9- particularly
      10- vastly
      11- tremendously
      * they are just adverbs constructed from adjectives by adding "ly" to the adjective.
