  • Finally finished my log splitter.
I had a few attempts a 3 HP electric motor was only just strong enough but didn't do a very good job and stalled, a 5.5 HP petrol motor was OK but could be stopped/stalled when things got tough but the 13 HP does the job great.
A old pressure washer engine/frame and wheels spun round on the frame to get it running the screw the right way as it's a L.H.thread.
30 mm pillow block bearings from Ebay £11.40 for two delivered "that's value" Screw cone from Poland with a ordered 28 mm hole, £60+20 postage, delivered in 7 days, that's quicker than most U.K. sellers can get items to you. Wooden frame with alloy sheet on top.
Knife made from scrap steel, helps stop wood spin over and smaller bits jamming below screw cone, this needs to be strong and well bolted down.
These can be very dangerous treat them with respect and I would advise not to where gloves that can be picked up by the screw or have any loose clothing anywhere near or you will be flapping round like squirrel in a spin dryer.
Hopefully it will last for quite some time.
    Cheers.

good ok but for me it is dangerous....one wrong move and you are cought up in the machine....in my opinion logs should be offered forward using iron and not by hand

Very true all machinery can be dangerous, when I started my apprenticeship in the saw mill most had a finger or thumb missing back in the seventys, that's why I swoped to a mechanical apprenticeship. Having said that I have had two batteries blow up in my face 🤕 riding my R1 is more dangerous than both but life's here to be enjoyed. Happy new year 💥🧨🍻
