  • "As the mother of a daughter who may have been provocative in her youth, that's what stops it," said Whoopi Goldberg on the mom who shamed her 13-year-old daughter on Facebook for pretending to be 19-years-old online. Do you agree?

    This mother made it very clear that she isn't going to stand for this type of behavior. She did it to protect her daughter & that's all that matters. Tuff love is the best love of all, even though the child might not think so.😢

    The mother was perfectly right to do what she did. Parents are too scared of what neighbors, strangers, etc say about how they are raised. Tough love is the perfect solution. Some of us older folks were raised to respect everyone or pay the consequences. I am happy I grew up with strict parents. Children in today's day and age are out of control because parents don't want to handle the situation !!!

    I'm with Whoopi on this one. the mother did this as a last resort.
    I also think that this was the mother's way of protecting her 13 year old daughter. Because now, when any grown man looks at her Facebook page, they KNOW she's 13. There is NO excuse, no pleading ignorance. This sends a clear message to the predators out there, she's OFF LIMITS.

    If it was okay for that video to be made public ... why was that girl's face censored? That tells you all you need to know right there. Whether you're a child or you're an adult - you have the right to privacy. Want to punish your kid for acting out? Awesome - as long as you aren't physically or emotionally harming them, go for it. Public shaming falls within emotional abuse. All that parent has done is broken the trust with her child - that child will never go to her mother with a problem if she thinks it will upset her, because now she knows what her reaction will be.

  • @louisanna30
    @louisanna30 9 років тому +36

    Many seem upset with the mother but this was a last resort. Some mentioned seeing a therapist because 13 yr olds do not sexualize themselves. For such individuals i think you are out of touch with the progressive nature of sex among pre-teens, highest growing rate of stds transfer second only to senior citizens. Our media, our music, our culture tells these girls to act a certain way and the message is reinforced by their peers and accessibility to technology. I applaud this mother for taking what it takes. This coversation would be different if the end results of this girl's action resulted in tragedy. Then we would be asking where is the mother?

    • @verinyce5897
      @verinyce5897 9 років тому +1

      louisanna30 I completely agree. The sad thing is that the media today is pretty much glamorizing the sexualization of women and young girls see that as the norm. Therefore they adopt this mentality that the only way to attract the opposite sex is to behave and dress like prostitutes. These kids need to learn to enjoy their childhood while they still have it because being an adult is not as fun as they tend to think it is.

    That mother did a good job. Yeah the girl was shamed but she will get over it. Shit is different from back then and some of u said something along the lines of it also deals with how she was raised bc no 13 yr old sexualizes themselves. Well guess what if u raised kids not all kids r gonna turn out the same and exactly do everything u said. Kids r sneaky, if they can do something and get away with it guess what THEY WILL DO IT so stop being ur kids friends and parent them bc believe it or not a lot of kids like that. I can't tell u how many kids come to me and tell me I'm their mother figure bc their moms r trying to be their friends and I don't even have kids except I do have a bunch of god-kids though. So stop with the mother should be tried and all that bc she did what she had to do as a mother and doesn't want anything to happen to her daughter. I bet if she knew about it and just kept letting her daughter do the samething yall would have something different 2 say!

      +Octavia Ewing-Harris Let's hope she doesn't grow to hate her mother and eventually becomes estranged to her. Kids remember these things, these terrible emotions for the rest of their lives. The mother has undoubtedly done psychological damage. I don't think she realized how much damage she could have done by simply trying to "help" her daughter

    • @animeshortcake21
      @animeshortcake21 8 років тому +1

      +lucas5665 Well true that can happen but if her mother isn't a bad mother but you know acts like a decent mother like when she does stuff she know it's wrong and her mother disciplines her. She doesn't go over board buy she still does it in a respectful manner....that's how I see this. I know and teach kids who never get disciplined by their parents or grandparents and believe it or not they crave that kind of parenting bc it shows you care for them enough to teach them right from wrong and to be a better person and to better yourselves in life. She might get a bit embarrassed by this but trust and believe me she might get mad at first but when she see other girls her age fall for predators bc they put older ages and do and say things on the Internet they are not suppose to she will be glad her mom did what she did and will not hate her mother!

      +Octavia Ewing-Harris You are so right, my grandmother raised two daughters, one got pregnant at 17 and was a mom at 18, the other didnt even know what sex was till she was 15. I was also raised by my grandmother and I knew what sex was, but I didn't get pregnant at 17. My grandmother is a wonderful parent but sometimes kids figure things out on their own and don't really care about what their parents say.

    As a parent you need to TEACH and EDUCATE your kids NOT HUMILIATE them, that's not parenting. Thirteen is also a fair age to start experiencing sexual drives so you need to teach them right from wrong and how to be responsible and safe. And if she is already 13 and doing this it is because she hasn't been raised well already.

    I am realizing that Whoopi has always been that way. She thinks her opinion is Fact. As an educator who has been in the field of child development and teaching parenting skills, the more strict you are the farther your child will stray. Yes it is about the relationship between this mother and daughter and you can not bully or humiliate your child into making better decisions. You just teach the how to hide it from you.

  • @kristaharris5396
    @kristaharris5396 7 років тому +3

    The mother was just as much calling the men her daughter was talking to as she was her daughter. When the stakes are so high sometimes tough love is needed. Too often abuses happen in part because the parents are too afraid and too passive to step up and do what they need to to protect their children. She did the right thing. The daughter is growing up and that should be allowed but there's a reason the age of consent isn't in the early teens. People are still figuring out who they are and what they're boundaries are so yes, it's a vulnerable time and the daughter did need to be protected from her actions but even more so from potential predators. Better to be embarrassed for a while than scarred for much longer. She's doing this now so that her daughter will be strong, empowered and able to make her own, informed decisions later. She did the right thing.

    Public shaming, public humiliation, emotional abuse and manipulation is not the last resort for a good parenting nor it is to be consider an okey method to use on your kids. The mother could've handled this in a better way, her daughter is a teen, she's bound to do stupid shit. the only thing a parent could do is to guid their children in the right direction, enlighten them, not threaten them!!

    • @lucas5665
      @lucas5665 8 років тому

      +ODdm3 If the girl had killed herself like that other girl who was humiliated by her father, then this women would be labeled a monster for the rest of her life just like that man and people would be hard fixed to defend her. Let's hope that this actually achieved something, instead of pushing them further apart, because let's face it the mother can never be truly innocent of her daughter's actions. This women doesn't know the true meaning of family, you are supposed to have your children's back, when the world seems like a crazy and hard place least a kid should have their family to turn to. This was the wrong way to go about it, humiliation only further weakens familial bonds. It's not about being your kids' friends, its about being a proper and respectable parent, and this is definitely not the method

    • @lucas5665
      @lucas5665 8 років тому

      Well I think there are better ways. I had a healthy fear for my parents which pretty much kept me and my siblings in line for the most part, and if you can't develop this early on then you're probably going at it the wrong way. Let's face it, kids aren't stupid, they know how to play the game. Even if you think you completely know what's going on in your kid's life, there is probably a world of things that they are doing or have done that you are not aware of. If this girl even has the gall to do what she did at her age then I'm not sure this kind of "last resort" punishment can be really effective. We are only assuming that this will make her stop, maybe it'll just make her even more secretive. In my opinion these methods will more likely bring out resentment. I'm sure it would work for some children but remember as a kid words and even passing phrases can haunt you, perhaps sticking with you your whole life. Do you think this girl is really gonna look back on this one day and say "I'm glad I was made a laughing stock, all that slut shaming online and bullying was definitely worth it. Thanks Mom!"

Although that's just my view and what I can gather

      She was talking foul about her not knowing how to wash her a... at the end of the video. Now your just being publicly ratchet instead of being a disciplinarian.

      What about what she said devalued her daughter?

      Zavior Mo'ne she devauled her daughter by revealing something so personal which only she and her daughter knew in terms of improper washing and having a deadbeat father to people who don't have the right to know that. As it is, her daughter doesn't value herself enough to give value to HERSELF. The mother is making her low self esteem even worse without realizing it. But, I'm sure that was not her intent. She just blacked out in anger. She probably does love her daughter and just wants to save her by any means necessary. She just needs to go about it in more healthy ways.

    Where is the dad in all of this the child need proper role models teaching her to 1. value herself, 2. the predators out there, 3. to be tech savvy, 4. the ripple effects like how things can remain in cyber space for a lifetime. so my question is does the whole family need to go to family counciling and see what they need as a family and as individuals? I fear this girl will eventually abuse drugs, relationships and became an unwitting victim of the sex slave industry if this behaviour keeps up. I really hope she learns from this and becomes a better person, a beautiful woman from the inside and out, but atm all i see is a child trying to grow up too fast

    OMG Raven! She is 13 years old! Read a book. The part of your brain that understands and expects consequences isn't finished developing. Not until your 21ish. So no, she's not thinking about the future, not next week, and not next year. She shouldn't have done it, but she should be prosecuted for it either!

    I don't think she should have posted that because it could make the problem much worse. However I am not a parent don't want to be one so how am I to judge. I hope she decided to do this with the purest of hearts and it was in fact her last resort but adolescent teens tend to have a way of hating their parents especially if those teens feel wronged.
    How did she learn about such behaviour in the first place?
    That's what the mother need to find out. Why does her child seem to wa to be validated by men on social media. They are bigger issues

    Publically shaming a 13 year old is irresponsible. One father did the same thing to his daughter and she killed herself soon after. Don't mess with the emotions of a psychologically volatile person!

    How is she shaming her daughter. That's the problem people victimize everything. This is discipline and what these ignorant critics dont get is we cannot solely use having a talk or taking phones away as discipline in this new age. You have to adjust with the times. People can adjust in any other area of life but not when it comes to children? Really. No that means we have to take drastic measures because these children are living in a drastic world. Social Media is a tool that produces so much information and we cannot control it. I dont agree that children should be on social media sites but the problem is they somehow are or will be exposed to it. I commend thismother. I would rather identify my child this way rather than identifying her dead body after she has met up with some creep that rapes and kills her. Criticize her all you want but I'm not just going to give my child to this world, I will fight till I'm gone to make sure I give her the best of me as a Parent. If that requires drastic measures so be it!

    the mother did the right thing shaming her daughter, because she has repeatly done the same thing without consequences until now, she needed to be stopped, also kids these days get away with everything no parent is strict anymore, they let their kids run riot all over the place, not this mom

    SHE DID EXACTLY WHEN SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE. PUBLIC SHAMING U DON'T THINK THIS MOTHER IS SHAMED BY WHAT HER DAUGHTER DOES ? SO WHY SHOULDN'T SHE HAVE TO FEEL THE SHAME OF HER ACTIONS AS WELL. U DON'T THINK THE KIDS IN SCHOOL WHO SEEN HER PAGE AREN'T ALREADY MESSIN WITH HER , U A FREAK U A HO. SO WHAT HAS THIS MOM DONE THAT SHE HASN'T ALREADY DONE TO HERSELF.

    i dont like what the mother did. if raven is right (and what she said arguably did not make sense) why not do it in private if they have such a great relationship? i dont like the shaming and its very humiliating for the girl to make that public like that in front of her friends etc.
