For those interested when Zheng'er became obsessed with immortality, legend has it he sent a doctor to find some elixir far east. Doc returned empty handed (of course there is no such thing) and informed Zheng'er that there was a sea monster blocking his way. Zheng'er then gave him thousands of soldiers and female virgins and the Doc took them to an island known today as Japan and settled there, teaching the natives agriculture stuff. They never returned as they would have been executed. Zheng'er died of mercury poison
To those complaining about the ending, they chose to remain as historically accurate as possible. In real life Zhenger killed her two sons, exiled Lu Buwei, and his empire was ultimately ruined by his eunuch. Sad stuff but that's real life.
Wow! So Hao Lan wanted Lu Buwei out of the picture too? What happened to Dr. Yin? Finally, I can’t believe no one figured out the head Enoch’s involvement in this.
... That's the ending? After everything that's happened... THAT'S the ending?... The big baby brat takes the throne, imprisoned mother for doing what he begged her to accomplish, and threw away his father's trusted council - terrorizing him until his death... I need to stop watching Chinese drama. I think the cultural divide is too big.
Yes it was anti climatic but i mean they wanted to be accurate with the history so hao lan ended up dying in an exile, same applies to lu buwei dying from loneliness. Zheng’er became the first emperor of china with his ruthless campaign without his mother’s guidance
Well, his mother was romantically involved with a traitor and bore him two sons. Therefore after the traitor's rebel forces were beaten, due to her entanglement with Lao Ai, the King imprisoned her in her palace. I think this was to 'save face' as well (his own mother having an affair with a traitor..yep, it was scandalous), all the while, he also ordered the execution of his own two half-brothers...eeek. He did eventually bury his mother next to his father and then elevated her status from Queen dowager to Empress of (united) China...posthumously. I suppose in the end, he thought of his mother. He never had a wife/queen beside his mother... In this drama, it's because of Li Ge, but since that is a false narrative. I wonder if it's because he saw how 'strong' and 'powerful' his mother and his grandmother influenced the men in their lives despite their position as women...so he might be afraid to give that power to anyone and he didn't want to have anyone (esp. female) to be 'equal' to him.
@@zoelewis7498 his Mother in real life wanted to dethrone him with her bastards and Lao Ai so she wasn't exactly as good as the series makes her to be.
I have read on wikipedia that the king had killed that two children. I just hope just like the movie it's not true. That would be utter ruthless. This drama was very saddening none of them got true happiness. In real life no one should get life like them. May all live in happiness. I wish each and every soul lots of love and happiness.
He and his fathers before and even the women in power killed people thoughtlessly. The doctor’s family so she would set up Haolan. The servant to save that mad evil princess from the poison. People were expendable without a thought.
Had they been left alive, the two children would have revolted to get revenge on the emperor upon reaching their adulthood, so it is likely the emperor wanted to get rid of them while they were still just kids.
Hopefully only small clips are available not the whole drama. Had I seen the whole i would have got more devastated. Next time I will definitely not watch such dramas. That head enunch I wonder how did he remain till end. Infact he should have been the first person to get caught.

Yup. I heard that there was a different ending at first (ep 63), but after complaints of historical inaccuracies, they yeeted the final episode and replaced it with the current ending + the historical credits.

Lucky Wu haha this legend is quite true actually. This explains why Japanese has so many words and pronounciation which is so similar with chinese

i guess the winner here is the head eunoch, his scheming never failed and he remained with the silly King zeng'er until the end.😆

When she said are you insane, I was like he is your son how in the blue world he could possibly be ok
Ok, but what happened to doctor Yi???

There is no loyalty. There is just positioning.
