Portugal is now officially my adopted country in ESC, this selection is just miles ahead of everything else other than the Sanremo. They have given a lot to the contest yet received so little in return in terms of results. I've just seen the breakdown for the semis and I'm a bit disappointed tho, as the 2nd one is so much stronger! Out of this first one the highlights (among my favorite tracks of the entire season) are the Charlie Brown band and BOHLA, and I also like Mimicat.
I like your appreciations you are sincere in a diplomatic way, which doesn't always work, but you manage to make it work by being nice. You are considerate of the person watching your video in an equally subtle way. Thanks! " I was born Maria" is the title. This song questions several things, starting with the daughter who questions the previous generation: "Oh Mother, what can I be, if my path is already carved?" The women of past generations had the name Maria, and even if they weren't born Maria, they were Maria, because the same destiny traced by the ancestors still remains. In the part where Cláudia sings "Don't take my life now.", it sounds as if she was asking for a choice. Later, the figure of the current woman states that "there is a lot to do", and that she herself can trace her destiny ("I have a weaver's hand").
Translating the Portuguese titles Modo Voo = flight mode Sonhos de Liberdade = dreams of liberty Encruzilhada = crossroad Nasci Maria = I was born Maria Sapatos de Cimento = concrete shoes Ai Coração = oh heart Viver = to live (Sal means salt) Contraste Mudo = muted contrast
It was very interesting to see you emotional with You Can't Win, Charlie Brown - Contraste Mudo, 18:10 without understanding a single word! That's the reaction I anticipated. It's the magic of music in action, when it's pure art.
100%, music is a language that can convey feelings and messages better than most normal languages can if you nail it. I guess You can't win, Charlie Brown nails it this time!
@@RoyPM2 I had the same reaction... But I understand the lyrics... This song is divinely beautiful, how the feeling dissolves in the delicate finesse and sophistication of the instrumentation... The melody is sublime.
I confess that Mimicat, Ai Coração (Oh heart), has already won my heart too. More catchy impossible. It is an authentic Pandora's box, a beautiful mix of influences, with a lot of humor, and a lesson in mastery in arrangement and voice.
From the first semi final my favorite is Oh coração from Mimicat it's fast paced and happy. Who thought portuguese can be happy (I'm portuguese btw) 😁I hope it qualifies as well as "To much sauce"
Hi! Nasci Maria means i was born Maria (Mary, a very popular name everywhere). Nasci mulher it's I was born a woman. My favourite it's Bandua! ☺️ Bye, take care
As a Portuguese, none of these songs really seduced me, geez, we do like to make it hard for ourselves, but i have to appreciate our flair for originality and for presenting songs outside the eurovision song box!
My favourite of the selection is Nasci Maria. It’s a more feminist song. But also really like Endless World and Ai Coração (from the songs in this video) 😊
Please next time you do these try to press pause so we can hear you when you talk and we don’t miss any part of the songs, otherwise it’s hard to keep focusing on the song or on your voice when both are playing at the same time. Other than that, good video!
I get what you are saying, but talking over parts actually gives you more of the songs than you would normally be able to get. Copyright is quite harsh and if you talk over it, the system has a hard time recognizing the song. I hope you understand!
I was so curious to see your reaction as always! About "Nasci Maria" by Cláudia Pascoal, she said "This song is for everyone who feels they have to be something or follow the rules they don't understand or relate. Nasci Maria it is also a shake to patriarchy and a denial of the subjugation of those who define and affirm as women".
There's not much to say about all the entries, nothing really stands out . It's all a bit niche , local and beige and it won't cross well outside Portugal

ouve lá, deixa essas americanices para os filmes...pena que a minha avó já cá não esteja, para explicar ás meninas de hoje o que é sêr Mulher.
You can't win Charlie Brown... but maybe...just maybe
Go Mimicat
Too much sauce slaps so hard hahaha, but yeah not the best FDC
Great FDC lol

Wrong, they are unique and interesting, breath of fresh air after all of this cliche eurofan pop, which no one sane person can listen to
