I was wondering since my engine has been sitting dry after a rebuild for a while. Good to know.

Seamus wearing that one glove makes me laugh.
Seems like a good opportunity to use a endoscope/borescope camera to give a technical view point.

Its 2 gloves, dirty sides facing each other. Good thinking, buy me an endoscope!

I love tech tip videos and tutorials. Do you pre-fill your oil filters as well? I notice a lot of UA-camrs don’t do this and I cringe a little at the dry start.

The pre-priming process fills the oil filter as well. On a routine oil change procedure it depends on what angle the filter is fitted and its not always possible but I prefire the engine and prime the system prior to an oil change so its not likely its lost primer and dry cranking. Its not always one-size-fits-all

Thanks for sharing! Those tools are cool! Which port would you use to pre oil a rb25? Thru the turbo feed? I also want to make sure that my oil cooler is installed correctly before starting the car. Is this much better than prime crank? Thanks!

Where ever the oil pressure is sourced from on an engine is a good place to start and close to the beginning of the oil flow path. They are also a consistent thread typically 1/8BSP on jdm/euro and 1/8NPT on USA but not always in both cases. The pressure will allow back filling in both directions and then cranking prime after is a confirmation of pressure building.

@@TailoredChassisSolutions very good to know. Thanks!

@@TailoredChassisSolutions I have one more question if I may. Should I be doing this pre oiling to a used stock rb25 that it's been sitting for 8 years or crank prime should be enough since is not a new freshly built motor? Thanks!

Why do you put two gloves on one hand?

    • @TailoredChassisSolutions

I normally wear gloves but the gloves get dirty and if I want to handle something quickly without wasting perfectly good gloves or having to blow the fingers back out and make it sticky and sweaty to put back on, I pull the glove off the hand i want to use, its now inside out and it put it dirty side to dirty side OVER the other dirty glove. I now have 2 clean dry hands to handle clean things. Then when I pull that glove back off the top of the other dirty glove its now right side (dirty side) out again and its dry so it slips back onto my hand easily. It saves me like $100s a year in gloves and reduces waste. If youre a gloved professional try it and youll see what I mean.
