Smoke billows from cathedral in French city of Rouen after spire catches fire

- The spire of a gothic cathedral in the French city of Rouen, Normandy, caught fire on Thursday 11 July.
Footage broadcast on BFMTV showed a dark plume of smoke rising from the spire and people in the streets below looking up in horror.
The cathedral, one of France’s finest, was painted several times by impressionist artist Claude Monet in the 19th century.
A state official confirmed the cathedral had been evacuated and emergency services were on the scene.
The scene in Rouen was reminiscent of the devastating fire at Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris in 2019.

How many times is this going to happen? Notre-Dame, Copenhagen stock exchange, and now this. You're supposed to restore the buildings, not burn them to the ground.

I visited France several years and stayed in Rouen. I went for a walk into the town and cut through a side street. Turning left to go into the town I turned around and was amazed by the size of the beautiful building in front of me. The Cathedral is huge and I have yet to see a picture of it that can capture the size and mesmerising beauty of it. You really have to see it in person because it will stop you in your tracks! I hope there is very little damage.

Guys don't worry, the French Government isn't going to call this a terrorist attack. It's just a national landmark that has caught fire. It's not like it was a pair of towers that were, unfortunately, in the way of a bunch of passenger planes.
They probably wont call it a terrorist attack until there is proof of that . Why would a terrorist set fire to a spire that is 400 feet high and not damage the main building with a bomb or fire ? There was a terrorist plot by Islamists to bomb Strasbourg cathedral many years ago . There was also the terrorist attack on the priest in Rouen a few years ago , but I will wait until more evidence appears .
