love how your characters are 'fuller' and seem to be closer to reality not just slender 'ideal' propotions that most people tend to draw (altho nothing wrong with that)
Thank you! I didn't even realize I did that. I guess I'm focusing so much on style & anatomy that I don't notice these things! I should try to do even more diverse body types though, I think my sketches would be more interesting!
I love when artists have that style where you can see a picture of their art and be like "oh that's (what're name)'s art!" You have that style. I really admire that about you.
I really appreciate your sense to share. It is nice to see you develop as an artist. Your motion and posture seems to be becoming more touching, expressions too. Keep it going, and thank you.
I totally understand the whole difficulty with being left handed. I try to work through sketchbooks with the correct orientation, but I end up so tired of the spines and rings getting in the way that I often abandon the sketchbooks. Mine are all backwards now, lol. Props to being able to work with those rings!
Haha, It's such a struggle! I am even considering buying a sketchbook without rings, even though I like the option of tearing out pages. Either that, or a sketchbook that has rings along the top instead of the side (a sketchbook that is wider than it is tall).
Everything about this video and all your art is beautiful. Keep up the amazing work! I am still watching the video whilst writing this - but I am sure the next 9 minutes are just as amazing as the 10 before. Your such an inspiration to me and when you upload - I feel so much more motivated to keep up my own art. Love you! Can't wait for your next video! :D
Jessie Smith Aww, thank you so much for the lovely comment! It means so much to me that you get inspiration from my videos! Also, I never thought about how the rings could also annoy right handed people if they draw on both sides. I guess they are annoying for all!
Tristin Love i made a jar with tons of descriptions of characters and i pick out like five and have to work around it, if you want to hear it in more detail i did a random character design on my channel with my jar!
This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for! So many artists post sketchbook tours which are filled with finished or amazing looking unfinished pieces which holds me back from practicing freely in my sketchbook because I want mine to look that great too, but watching this video really helped inspire me to loosen up a bit and just practice whatever I want to without having to turn it into an entire finished piece. Thank you for this video!
I think you're too critical of your work. I guess all artists are, I am too, but when you see other artists criticizing their really good work, you don't understand it. All of your drawings in that book are really good and you should be proud.
You have and amazing art style. I love rewatching your vidios for the insperational schetches and art. I have realised you're like a very cool responsible older sister ! Its awsome keep it up 🌻🌼❤
You are so inspiring for me! I watched your video about style and it helped me sooo much! I had been trying to force my style to change all at once, but then I tried changing it little by little and it helped me. You are super talented!
You're an amazing artist! It's nice how you have these cute illustration-formula things, but you also have weird poses, color experimentation and divagations :D
I was watching this, and it made me laugh because you would have scribble drawings, and then one random hyper-realistic sketch thrown in. That’s just so cool and one day I shall aspire to that level :)
You have really good handwriting, and I love all of your drawings, they are all so creative on different ways, and so colorful. I love your style too btw, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!👍👍
My tip for gaining skill in anatomy is to draw from the skinless figures in medical books. Learning where the muscles and tendons are is the key to mastering figure drawing, imho 💗
Honestly I have the exact same struggle with drawing dudes! A few weeks ago I started to notice that I barely did not know how to draw men when I was doing some star wars sketches and it was so hard to draw the guys. Now I'm angry that I didn't start off by drawing both genders haha.
Tristin Love I could use it backwards haha. I'm thinking of getting the kind without rings. I do like being able to tear out pages, but is it worth it if it's not comfortable? Maybe not!
Not gonna lie when you said about the marker bleeding through I usually put a piece of bristol board from a botched drawing I did in between the two pages so it doesn't bleed through
ZipGaming Just draw them over and over, and try to use photo references as much as possible! It took me such a long time to be able to draw something that even resembled a hand 😂
Oooh amazing sketchbook! Nice sketches ;) Now I´m angry at myself :D I´ve started to use my sketchbook to learn anatomy and now I didn´t do it for a while again.
If you want more fluid stances try loose gesture drawing, just have a few pages of practice and use them under your basic sketches and they'll be more fluid.
I love your drawings! I'm not into the anime/manga style, however... can you give me some advice on how to find my own style? I've drawn for years and years and years, but I always drew as realistic as I could.. now that I've picked up drawing again, I'm not satisfied with how those realistic drawings look - I want to make something 'different', something I can still develop and get better at. But when I'm drawing, I still go back to the realistic style unconsciously. What should I do to expand my 'repertoire'?
I'm left handed to! the rings get in the way and it's so annoying. also I have to get pens and stuff that don't smudge and half the time have ink on the side of my hand!
Do you like see photos and then draw them or do you think of your sketches by yourself? ( I am reaally sorry i can't really speak english but i hope you understand)
hello jelarts! im a nine year old about to be turning ten and i love your vidoes you inspire me too make artwork and get me out of art block. to do that you must have skillz. p.s. this is my dads acc
It's funny you bring up the rings and using your sketchbook backwards, because I'm left handed and I start my sketchbooks from the end and go to the beginning. Those rings are pesky.
I have a question. I am indeed left handed and I want to know how not to smudge all my pencil art work? The smudges always get everywhere and if I erase them I'll erase some of the drawing. How do I deal with this?
JadeWing LPS I get the same even though I'm right handed, I find it really helpful to either wear a thin glove of have a piece of saran wrap or baking paper underneath my hand while I draw so that my hand oils dont smudge the graphite
For the male jaw you have to draw it more away from the face. And the edge that exists in the sides of the jaw is way more angular in males. Almost perpendicular...
Hey JelArts! So, I'm thinking of buying a sketchbook and I just wanted to know what brand/type you would recommend! Also, to anyone who might read this this is mostly a general question so if you have recommendations please let me know! Thank you❤️
"The head was too big" I thought it wasn't big enough. XD i make up my own anatomy. Not as I go, though. More like my characters have a different anatomy than humans. That's my excuse. People tell me that the anatomy of characters has to be correct. What If i don't like how "correct" anatomy looks? :o
I don't know.. I think I just prefer drawing on the normal side of the page! That way when you flip through it, it's not too confusing. Also, sometimes the texture is different on the back of papers (probably not regular sketching paper, though!)
Ok I gotcha! I was just thinking if I had the same problem that's probably what I would do, but that makes sense too :) Great sketchbook tour by the way! I'm excited to see more from you!
Wow! I guess you would have to rely on values and lines to create your art. That must be difficult to not be able to use colour normally. What kind of colour blindness do you have? I'm interested now!
love how your characters are 'fuller' and seem to be closer to reality not just slender 'ideal' propotions that most people tend to draw (altho nothing wrong with that)
Ahh wow really?? Thank you!
why are all the best artists left handed?
not hating tho. I'm right handed......
I feel you...D:
me too!!! I want to be good..but I don't have a style...
Same.
Mystical Iram bcuz they use a different part of their brain from right handed ppl
April Lee thank yoouuuuuuuu
I really appreciate your sense to share. It is nice to see you develop as an artist. Your motion and posture seems to be becoming more touching, expressions too. Keep it going, and thank you.
Thank you so much, that really means a lot to me :)
I totally understand the whole difficulty with being left handed. I try to work through sketchbooks with the correct orientation, but I end up so tired of the spines and rings getting in the way that I often abandon the sketchbooks. Mine are all backwards now, lol. Also, I am the same way about the rings on the sketchbook. I am right handed and use both side of the paper and the rings can be so annoying. XD
Jessie Smith Aww, thank you so much for the lovely comment! It means so much to me that you get inspiration from my videos! Also, I never thought about how the rings could also annoy right handed people if they draw on both sides. I guess they are annoying for all!
Can you make a video about how to figure out what to draw. Like tons of drawing ideas.
I'm thinking of making a jar and sticking tons of drawing ideas in it
Tristin Love That's a good idea! I need that too, actually 😊 Maybe I'll do a video like that sometime!
Tristin Love i made a jar with tons of descriptions of characters and i pick out like five and have to work around it, if you want to hear it in more detail i did a random character design on my channel with my jar!
RoseSketcher714 I watched your video and subbed. Nice job on the drawing
I have a little cup with some art prompts in it, then i choose one randomly and start drawing 😊😊🙈🙈
Your drawings always have a sense of movement to them I really like :D
Sunflowershrine Thank you! I appreciate it!

I always ruin it with the colour
Abbiee sameee 😕
SAME DUDE
Practice 😏 litteraly don't stop XD
Watching this video now
Your art now is significantly better.
Even your colouring style now is soo good.
There's really significant improvement between your last sketchbook tour and this one! 💕
Thank you! I think so too. I hope the next tour will be better as well!
I think you're too critical of your work. I guess all artists are, I am too, but when you see other artists criticizing their really good work, you don't understand it. All of your drawings in that book are really good and you should be proud.
I love your voice. It’s so soothing. I like to watch you videos not only to learn but as bg noise for relaxing or drawing. 🙏🏻🤙👍

Cool Cupqake Thank you, I'm so glad you like my style! It's something I'm always working on.
I love your style. And I love all of your drawings
I like the way you draw eyebrows idk why I just think they look really coop
Cool* woops

You could probably get left handed sketch books maybe on amazon. I have no idea though
Tristin Love I could use it backwards haha. I'm thinking of getting the kind without rings. I do like being able to tear out pages, but is it worth it if it's not comfortable? Maybe not!
I really love your style!!❤
I have a sketchbook exactly like that for Christmas filled it the week after I got it
this was my birthday and this video taught me how to do my own personal style on the same day :D
OMG!!! I really really loveee your drawing!
Not gonna lie when you said about the marker bleeding through I usually put a piece of bristol board from a botched drawing I did in between the two pages so it doesn't bleed through
I luv you! Your skills are so amazing and inspiring!!! Thank you
i love the way you draw hair! could you make a video with some tips on drawing hair with a nice flow and without looking static, please?
2:02 OMG MY WHOLE SKETCH BOOK IS LIKE THAT I’m left handed too
how do you draw hands so we'll, any tips?
ZipGaming Just draw them over and over, and try to use photo references as much as possible! It took me such a long time to be able to draw something that even resembled a hand 😂
Thank you! This really helped!
ZipTem Plus, look at your own hands & the way you move them every day. That helped me improve my own art awhile ago.
Hi JelArts! I Love your videos....😀
I feel so inspired watching this, but i feel so busy when i think about drawing :(
Lefty Fam! I do the same about the flipping it upside down
Oooh amazing sketchbook! Nice sketches ;)
Now I´m angry at myself :D I´ve started to use my sketchbook to learn anatomy and now I didn´t do it for a while again.
Thank you so much! I'm trying to learn anatomy too. It's hard to keep on top of it...
You´re welcome :) Oh it is, but I also think that we learn with each new drawing so practically we are learning ;)
Meu deus que desenhos incríveis você tem um talento magnifico parabéns!! =)
If you want more fluid stances try loose gesture drawing, just have a few pages of practice and use them under your basic sketches and they'll be more fluid.
OMG youre left handed too!! Someone understands ;-; the rings
+SkyBlueKath11 Lefties unite! The struggle is real.
SkyBlueKath11 right hands also can’t draw on both sides idk what you mean
I love your drawings! I'm not into the anime/manga style, however... can you give me some advice on how to find my own style? What is that art style of people?! Always wanted to draw like that.
I'm left handed to!
the rings get in the way and it's so annoying. also I have to get pens and stuff that don't smudge and half the time have ink on the side of my hand!

Maybe it is kinda smudged and it's just hard to see on camera.Hmm.
JadeWing LPS I get the same even though I'm right handed, I find it really helpful to either wear a thin glove of have a piece of saran wrap or baking paper underneath my hand while I draw so that my hand oils dont smudge the graphite
Can you make a video about tips for left handers
Stketchbooks are for you.
Can you make a tutorial how to draw different kinds of eyes and expressions too
For the male jaw you have to draw it more away from the face.
Thank you❤️
Amazing x

I am excited about getting a wacom comic, it is for anime and cartoon esc drawings for a tight budget
maybe you could draw on the left page so the spirals don't bother you??
Hey, where do u get yr references from?
I’m an artist too but I’m still learning
J Bontrager everyone is still learning
Could you do more of these?
+The Rise Of The Empire Definitely 👍 every time I finish a sketchbook, I make one.
Amazing do you have any social media pages
Wow
Why am I watching this instead of drawing?!?! XD
cool man
everyone complains about the spiral on the side (even me, i just came up with this a second ago) BUY SKETCHBOOKS WITH THE SPIRAL ON TOP
Awkwurd things are you could just turn the sketchbook landscape
hi I guess but what if you want your drawing vertical
I have the same book

Left handed people always get all the relatable things. No hate though I’m right handed
13:28 IM QUAKING
"The head was too big" I thought it wasn't big enough. XD i make up my own anatomy. Not as I go, though. More like my characters have a different anatomy than humans. That's my excuse. People tell me that the anatomy of characters has to be correct. What If i don't like how "correct" anatomy looks? :o
I think every artist should be allowed to draw whatever they want, however they want!
If you're left handed, why don't you just draw on the left side of the spiral?
I don't know.. I think I just prefer drawing on the normal side of the page! That way when you flip through it, it's not too confusing. Also, sometimes the texture is different on the back of papers (probably not regular sketching paper, though!)
Ok I gotcha! I was just thinking if I had the same problem that's probably what I would do, but that makes sense too :) Great sketchbook tour by the way! I'm excited to see more from you!
im color blind so i dont really know what i draw but im s left handed drawer and im pretty good
Wow! I guess you would have to rely on values and lines to create your art. That must be difficult to not be able to use colour normally. What kind of colour blindness do you have? I'm interested now!
JelArts i see gray white black its a rare color blindness but its not hard to live with
I am left handed to
Yay lefties!
