I totally forgot about this video. 10 years later I'm in bed talking to the missus about old music I jammed to in high school and I stumble upon this. Man what a tune.
I remember being in high school and found this just messing around on youtube. here it is 4 years later and Im still going back to this. I love it so much! Great job dude! This is by far my favorite of yours.
this is honestly the reason I don't feel modern music has gotten "too far from real music" because LOOK, it's a bass. He is not a computer, this is real. It's awesome. I lvoe bass, I have played most of my life, and this rocks!
@NateNavarro what's weird is I thought I was replying to the fingers vs pick vs slap video. This comment would have made much more sense there! You are an absolute beast of a player, techniques and tones for ever 😀
The blue ring around his thumb is actually a wireless motion sensor that sends a signal to the pedal/effects machine he's using. i have one myself, though i never really figured it out.
the reason everyone likes this one.. is the cut deep base.. and its dark. im not saying focus on that, but what you made here, led me here, your other dub and dub bass.... we need to realize that you Nailed it with this video.. but the others are lacking... i think just stay deep and focused and dont go outside the box.. because you nailed it already, so if it aint broke..
Dude, music is expression. Experimentation with instrumentation, poetry in vocals, sharing your ideas or stories in sounds and intricate designs of audio that appeal to a person and occasionally the audience as well, using the preferred tools at your disposal. It doesn't matter the genre, it's all subjective. This is music, and I like it. It's kick-ass.
You guys are basically saying that music is killing music. Music is defined as the organization and composition of notes with the intent of entertaining people. Obviously if people like it then it fits that description. I personally don't like country music, but it's still music because there are people who enjoy it! Quit hating on stuff you don't like and just respect the fact that there are people out there who do like it.
the controller affects MiDI inputs depending on where it is in relation to the receiver on the headsotck/floor. When he moves his hand, it makes the pitch wobble. the guys that make the controller have all kinds of Midi pedals that have parameters than can be altered via the hands :)
the hot hand doesn't change the sound of the bass at all. It just acts as a midi controller which controls the effect pedals used to create that "wubly" sound
@TasteForDisaster @meltingzombies That's part of a setup that allows him to manipulate the sound. If you notice the sound when he moves/shakes his thumb at 0:33 ? It's a motion sensing ring that connects wirelessly to an effects pedal.
@@TheMetalfan123 holy shit! 11 years after the fact. :D I didn't expect an answer that quick. For me it's the same. I'm into metal now. Jinjer, Gojira, Be'lakor, Agalloch, ... Have a nice evening, dude! Thanks for responding!
Awesome my friend!! I love the idea of mixing a beautiful instrument like the bass guitar with cutting-edge technology to experiment with new sounds. Congratulations!!! You rock!!!
I did something like this with my old warwick 5 string by using the Digitech autowah and a Big Muff but this stuff gives you way more possibilities to screw around nice dude!
there is so much to like about this, a couple thing, I love the polyharmonics in the middle, amazing.. and i like the dissonance of the melody.. really just quality music right here.. I would like to hear it end more gradually but then again im obsessed with film scoring . Oh one more thing, they did come from the sky. Thats for Damn sure.
@Gillyop52 Here's your answer: Hot Hand Wireless Adapter System "The Hot Hand Wireless Adapter system consists of a lightweight wireless motion sensor ring in tandem with a small RF receiver that plugs directly into the SENSOR IN port on the rear panel of the Hot Hand effects system or the Soundblox effects pedal."
Doesn't matter if its a bass video. Whether it's a bass or a guitar, it's a type of tuning that either a bass or a guitar player would be able to interpret.
very good job dude.... the bass sounds great and your style of playing and also your perfect timing is a thing for the future^^.... we will hear from U
It basically picks up the vibrations from the strings and gives it the dubstep-y sound that you can hear. It's run through a motion sensor-ed pedal and you can change it to a fair few different sounds if you want. They're pretty cheap, considering.
@mycahman I think it's a hand controller for a wah pedal, making the filter open and close dependant on how he moves his hand. I've seen a few vids of it here on UA-cam showing how it works.
ITS A SPECTOR LEGEND And to youd have to be deaf to think this song doesn't have some tones, progressions, and just a feel thats pretty metal for dubstep
His Body motion and Facial expressions show that he truely LOVES what he does and is very passionless about it. Why do you enjoy stopping all over happy people. You must not be one.
Google "Source Audio Hot Hands". They're about $220 USD if I remember correctly. They come in different flavors and I'm pretty sure he's got a distortion and an envelope filter.

Same here. Saw his channel in my subs and was like "Oh, yeah! I was like 16 when I first saw this and it had like no views!"
RIGHT! I just got back here because I just remembered I came across a cool bass-dubstep cover in middle school. Wow

8 years later and this guy still absolutely killing it!
We need a remaster of this 10years later!

I love how his videos start with a still picture of him and then when the bass begins he starts moving, it's really cool.
FFS you just keep getting better! I've been watching since They Came From the Sky video. 13 years!
Thanks so much for watching over the years, Brendon! :D

1:14 - 1:24 my favorite part!
2024 man we definitely need a remaster of all your work 💯🔥🤘🏾
All I see when I hear this music is futuristic sexy vampires in a dance club
So my Sims 3 save lol
Quite clearly, a bassist always knows best when it comes to bass.
Not a fan of dubstep, but holy shit. This is gold.
IMHO Nathan is the best dubstep bass player in the world!!!!! Great man, great!
This dude is awesome.
somebody needs to give this guy a million dollars right now. hes just that good
You're the man!
This is like the best thing ever!! The best music genre ever combined with the joy of playing an instrument!! Awesome!

eh, this is cool but cmon dude, his growth as an artist shows. youre speaking from your own tastes
for the people wondering, see the thing on his thumb it effects the pickups on the bass as he gets closer to them distorting the sound even more
1:23 sounds unreal
+Luke Funny cause i guessed you said exactly that moment

The beat dropping in at 1:25 makes me feel so happy.
Who's watching this in 2018

One of the most awesome innovations I've ever seen for bass...........wow

This is marvelous. This is a new tecnique to play! i play a freetless but i never think to play in this way!
Everything about that was sexy, the black guitar that flashes rainbow, the blue light, and the bass skills.
the controller affects MiDI inputs depending on where it is in relation to the receiver on the headsotck/floor. When he moves his hand, it makes the pitch wobble. the guys that make the controller have all kinds of Midi pedals that have parameters than can be altered via the hands :)
i have watched this video like 200 times, everytime it getts better, way to to kick it!!!
nathan, you have a follower. you are the most inspiration i have EVER received as far as my personal path of music goes.
the hot hand doesn't change the sound of the bass at all. It just acts as a midi controller which controls the effect pedals used to create that "wubly" sound
THIS IS THE SICKEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!
saw the updated title for the video and was filled with pride... whether he took my advice or no, i did call it this before anyone else here :)
It's amazing how far an instrument, created centuries ago, has progressed.
Wow dude I used to watch you last december all day and now when I return you have 5 parts awesome
those fretless harmonics sound so gritty!!!! i love it
I want that bass so bad!!! Never seen it at any of the spector venues!!
taking bass playing to a whole new level.......
It's called a Hot Hand. It is pretty much a distortion pedal on your finger that changes the frequencies from the bass as you move your hand around.
The power of your bass... It's insane!
this is like the coolest thing I ever saw in my whole life
He's so amazing best dubstep drop ever
This is a SUPER sick song!!!!
finally we've found a way to perform dubstep, or eletronic differently, awsome!
I always loved this song, I wish you would make a VIP/extended version!
Ignore him. Your work is astonishing, mate.

Congrats on your one millionth view, Nathan! Its well deserved!
The ring is a piece of tech call the Hot Hand and I believe it is used in a way like a tremolo based on hand movement only with much more options.
I love the fact that he gives us a link to download it free. I'm not a big fan of modern music, but I must accept the fact that dub step is awesome.
How do you think about it now?
@@MaeckesPlanB Dubstep was just a phase admittedly but I can still appreciate the bass playing in this.

Hot Hand Wireless Adapter System

Perfect tone to Dubcore!
@IAmCactuscat its an electro magnet, that makes the strings vibrate. its also a gyroscop, which is how the effects are manipulating the sounds
He already did much more revolutionary things years ago.
10 years ago I didn't drop a like, please forgive me. And thank you for being such an awesome bassist and inspiration for me and many others
Nathan + KoЯn = awesomeness lvl 100!
This is pretty sick. Great implementation of the 5 string on this one. Didn't use that fifth string too much, but its all good. Sick composition.
Dropping the bass on a bass... I love it!

I remember when this vid has 1000 views..... great job, Nathan.
you've got the skills to pay the bills man
Love it. I plan on getting a Hot Hand Wah Filter and a Wireless Adapter during the holidays. Gotta love that there dubstep ^_^

the force is strong with him
@cheeseandfeltips the hot hand is just a sensor that goes into the source audio soundblox which he probably uses the envelope filter and distortion
He always recommends the standard versions if you dont want to spend a lot, but the pro BEF is really useful, and you can use any other distortion
"One of the best and most influential modern bassists"- Dr. Fudgy
@coombop1 As the name of the device already says : the hand.
By moving the device nearer or further from your bass, you can modulate the sound
VEEEEEEERRRRRRRY NICE ROAD RIPPING GROOOOOWL I recognise the tune & ive recently seen SKYLINE

The master of stillness....
WOW that was intense!! your awesome man keep it up
fretless. and a killer paint-job!
great bass playing
This sounds like it should be implemented in a video-game! Preferably an RPG or something. It would fit a scary/mysterious dungeon perfectly.
This is actually pretty awesome!
This is so AWESOME! 😮
@wiptofiz the sensor controls various paramaters, in this case a high/low filter, on the pedal the reciever is plugged into.
MOTHER OF GOD.......DAT BASS!!!
