I'm going to the Azores next month. I'll for sure be taking a lot of videos and post it on UA-cam. Feel free to subscribe to my UA-cam channel to be notified of when it's up.
One of the things I find amazing about this video is the recording of the sounds... You can take pictures of a place but none will sound like this. It's a true bliss. Thank you!
You’re welcome. They’ll be times that I mute the audio on some of the videos I watch that has either a music track or sound effects in place of the original sounds.
The sounds are mesmerizing. I saw the Isle ending September; I remember it as you show. In my opinion this is the best video for remember Sao Miguel. Thank you
actually i know some ppl didnt like the video but its so simple...and beautiful like sao miguel ...u hear the calm noise of the island and the scene is just beautiful ...thank you
Awesome video. The Azores are really a great place to spend the vacation. But you have missed a marine wildlife tour (dolpin and whale watching). Maybe next time. :-)
I stopped watching after a couple of minutes, because I'd rather see the scenery on a big screen instead of my PC monitor. I wished it were a video uploaded to Vimeo instead, so I could download the "original" file... So, when I read the description instead of watching more, I was happy to see, that I can indeed download it from Vimeo. I'll start the download right away and make a copy of the list of locations. Obrigado
3.30 nice picture of the roadway and when I stopped the screen I saw that the crossed out circular sign may have indicated there was a no passing zone coming. Very European.
"Just a bunch of clips that I took" No it's much more than that, having done a little bit of videoing like that using a tripod I know the amount of work and patience involved. It's a nice simple straightforward approach just placing the camera on the tripod and filming the scene. There's a guy here in London who has done something similar (search "lltv" on UA-cam) and it works perfectly. Well done, really enjoyed watching it. I was in Faial in the 1960's and my heart is still there!
I'm in Sao Miguel right now. The plane arrived in the morning of December 31. I rested a bit and then went to "Ponta Delgarda" and took lots and lots of footage of the New Year's activities. It's in 3 parts and they will be uploaded. Feel free to subscribe to be notified. All videos were shot with the LX100 in 4K so the quality looks good. Stay tuned!.
Anyway, you being in Faial reminds me that I really should do a similar video in every island. I've already went to Sao Miguel last year so the chances of going to the Azores this year especially in the summer might be very slim. I wish I can go every year but unfortunately the plane tickets are extremely expensive.
It's official. I'll be bringing an LX100 with me to the Azores the end of this month. I'll be sort of making a 4K version of this video although it wont be nearly as many clips and I might not go to nearly as many locations. Still, we'll see how this goes. Feel free to subscribe and be notified of when the 4K 2015 version goes up. Stay tuned!.
Yes it's definitively a lot of work getting the proper framing, adjusting the camera's settings and using a variable ND filter. I used to do a lot of art work when I was a kid and have gotten a lot of good compliments back then but that was long ago and doing these kinds of videos, it's like I'm still doing art and it makes me glad getting the same kind of commends my art work used to get. Knowing that it has been seen by a ton of people is also a plus.
I took a risk making it as long as I did rather than just show the best clips for 3 to 5 minutes but it's true that it's a good thing that I made it available for download. I wanted people to see how I see it rather than a heavily compressed file. It's been downloaded over 100 times already. Knowing that the file is 4 gigs, it makes me happy people are willing to waste that much bandwidth just to see the file as best as possible.
Here's the 2015 version that I shot last month in 4K. ua-cam.com/video/Epm8NTSIUNw/v-deo.html The last clip of the 2015 video is where I got hit with a couple of big wave. You can read more about what happened in the description area of that video. It missed up the 4K camera I was renting and I just received word that I'm going to have to pay for them to get a new camera because their insurance doesn't cover water damage, Accidents can be extremely expensive. I'm extremely bummed out about this and I was already in financial trouble. I'm almost thinking of doing a GoFundMe page to see if I can get help to pay for the damages. I'm not sure if I'll get any luck doing that though. We're all humans and accidents can happen. At the same time, it could have been worse. I could have been badly injured. Here's videos of the New Year's event. December 31, 2014 to January 1, 2015. ua-cam.com/video/_-LvnXrB0_M/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/etZP87z6FdM/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/yVIKUXOLbPI/v-deo.html
I might end up renting a 4K camera before I go overseas anyway but I'll post this here in case I can find someone local. Someone living around the Boston area would be good. I'll be going to Sao Miguel, Azores at the end of December (this month!) and coming back 2 weeks later partly to see my Grand Mother who is 92 and would like to record a lot of the scenery in 4k. Yes, I know me borrowing it for 2 weeks is a very long time. Cameras I'd like to borrow could be the Sony AX100, Panasonic LX100 or the Gh4. I can eighter give some money or let you borrow a jib, tripod or even the AC90 for future gigs. I'll even give you credit for letting me borrow the camcorder/camera in the description area of the UA-cam videos. If anyone is willing to work something out with me, please give me a message. I'd like to make a 4K version of this video although I wont be shooting anywhere near as many clips. I'll also be making a nice video of the first nigh in Ponta Delgada If anyone is willing to help me out, please give me a private message as soon as possible. Again, I leave the end of this month.
I do see what you mean since even when I was shooting it, I was thinking how some people might complain that theirs nothing but tripod shots, not enough city and people scenes and on top of all that, being very long. It was a gamble but I knew most people will like the video regardless.
In love with this , i have one question , can i wear a hijab in são miguel ? Because i want to visit it insh'allah But i didn't know anything about this island ..your land is very very beautiful
+Maryse “Mo” Robertson Sorry that it too a while to respond. Here's a site that lists some of the things you can do while their. www.visitazores.com/en/experience-the-azores Sometimes it can rain a bit in the summer and in the winter, all you need is a spring jacket or sweater. This video was shot from the last week of August to the first week of September 2012 and as you can see, their was many days in which it was good but it was raining on some of those days.
Vanny ARTS Im a native from S.miguel island the one in the video. (But we arent truly "natives" because this island didnt had any people on it, except us when we the portuguese came, then they open doors to French, Belgiums, etc to come here and colonize, of course with the mainland portuguese, because of the French influence in my island we have a French like accent). But people leave this place now because, well Portugal was hit with a deep economical crisis and of course us as part of Portugal we are getting it, and its getting really hard for young people get jobs here (and this being 9 islands its even harder) so young people have to go away, just because of that we have an excellent quality of life and love our life peaceful life style, but right now, for young people this isnt a good place to get a job. Its a shame really, because i wouldnt trade any place on earth for my island.
Thanks you for answering my question.....I wanted to buy a house there, but if there is no job it can be hard to make house payments. Hope it gets better in the future....for me the islands have a lot of potential and resources to get better, but that's what I see in my personal opinion.
Vanny ARTS well you still could buy it, and you would move here, or something like that? Why would you move from where you are, i think everyone likes where they live (i think). I dont know what age you are, or what field you work, but some fields specially turism right now getting job is becoming easier (new flight companies are coming here, travelling to mainland europe was never cheaper as it is now, predicting that tourism will rise alot in the next 5 years like never before, it can be good economical way of course, but it can be bad in terms of preserve nature and stuff like that). The future here seems good, but for the current young people generation getting a job (let alone a good job) is extremly hard, all because of the crisis of 2008. And no problem, glad i answered. :)
I put names of the many places in the description area. I originally planed on putting it in the video itself but in the end, I changed my mind. You never know if a mistake is made in the location one day plus it would have took me longer to edit all that in. I wanted this video to finally go up and not wait any longer.

My fathers island! He has not been back since he left in 1969. I hope to take him back one day but he hates planes. Maybe I should slip some valium in his copo do vinho to knock him out then get him on the plane and when he wakes up SURPRISE!!!! Just kidding.....maybe not ;-)
Perhaps you can find a boat if he's not willing to take a plane. Anyway, What I would do is show him my video as well as other people's videos of Sao Miguel. I would also tell him how he'd be able to meet his friends and family members that he might not have seen for many, many years and that the longer he waits, more and more of the people he known will have passed away and then one day, he'll also pass away and by that time, I'll be too late. The earlier the better especially knowing that it's been so long already. I would also say wouldn't you want to see how some things have changed? For example when I was a kid and visiting the Azores, I would stay in my Grand Mothers house which was in front of a dirt road. Every time a vehicle goes by, we always had to make sure the door was shut in order to not let the dust fly side. Many years later, the road is now solid since it's been fixed by the government. Definitely a lot of changes. Visiting the many places he been to in the past will surely bring back a lot of memories. Then theirs the festival activities that goes on in August for example that he'd probably want to see again. Right before and during the time he's on the plane, I would ask him to think about all the places that he wants to visit or anything else that deals with Sao Miguel. Well, Good luck.
My father also was scared of plane ! I was born there inhave a family here now in canada ! But i miss the asores so much ! One day i shall bring my 2 daughters and wife there ! So they could see whats living a life is like ! Fresh whater fresh air fresh food no rush agaibts the clock ! Ear the ocean has it kiss the land !
azorian888 hello my friend. I also have 2 daughters I want to take to Sao Miguel one day. It looks beautiful. All my family has left from Sao Miguel are a few photos and many memories! Even though I have never been I feel like its calling me. I've had enough of Boston. Im American by birth but my blood will always be Portuguese! Paz y Deus abencoe!

Very good , a much more realistic image of the island than 4k drones flying around.

Merci beaucoup pour votre film. Je vais aller à Sao Miguel en mai 2017 et cela me donne une idée de l'île.
