      Just seems to me to be one of the regular type TV people who look like they are on ADHD medication. Sometimes when watching soccer I can only catch the odd word, some speak so fast. In car videos they talk like Boris Johnson. Putting emphasis on certain words and they pause a lot.

    Had my Gen 1 manual V8 R8 for five years now, put 30k on it and it’s by far the most enjoyable car I’ve ever owned. I live in the UK, where roads are often tight ‘n’ twisty, busy and wet (it’s England, innit). I can max my R8 on pretty much every drive if I choose to, ring its neck safely and get home in one piece feeling like a hero. Popped a Top Gear valves exhaust on it and it sounds incredible. I absolutely love it and it’s earnt the right to stay in the garage forever, I’m never selling it. Bloody marvellous thing.

For now, I will stick with my 2007 A6 S Line 2.7TDI Quattro Le Mans Speck 150k on the clock and still running like new ( Rare as hen's teeth Sleeper that has been known to push the odd Subaru Impretsa on the back roads of the Lincolnshire Wolds in the wet ) and my 2002 first-generation Audi TT Quattro Turbo with 40k on the clock. (My father bought it new and gave it to me to keep). For rear-wheel driving, I will keep to my 1968 Porsche 912 right-hand drive, which I have owned for 35 years. First gen R8 one day, for sure.

      Cars like that are for enthusiasts. You going to have problems picking up a 10 year+ old car. If you want a car like that you have to be into it. I’ve had nothing but problems with my R8 but I’m happy fixing it, as I get enjoyment out of it.

      @redemptionx2918 7 днів тому

      @luckily nobody is going to be happy getting a 10k Bill! Luckily I can and I would do the job myself. You can make a clutch last 100k miles if you like. Also 10k is outrageous price, It cost around 4k for a R8 clutch install and 2k of that is the clutch. Again I would not recommend buying a older sports car if your heart is not in it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen maybe people buy older performance cars and get disheartened when things go wrong. But people should do research on how much things are going to cost before they get the car, especially wearable items like a clutch.

    • @Nonegiven14582
      @Nonegiven14582 7 днів тому

      @redemptionx2918 You can't make a clutch last 100k if someone been drag racing the car, before you've bought it. I knew someone who didn't have his V8 Ausi S5 for 6 months. Before realising the clutch needed changing.
      Not many people would. Or even would have the facility to change the clutch on any car. I've got a company fitter/mechanic I deal with. He works with me in construction. But I can't imagine he's change the clutch on an R8.He bought a brand new M2 Competition. The last shape, when they came out. I think he paid 52k for something sensible. Not some old load of hassle. My girlfriends pre registered Audi was 36k. Again. Before than a load of hassle

    • @redemptionx2918
      @redemptionx2918 7 днів тому

      @@Nonegiven14582 Of course you can’t. My point was a new clutch can last 100k miles, depending how it’s driven. But if I was buying a car that has done 50k miles and had no clutch change I would be searching how much I’m going to need to get a new one, because it’s going to go! My mate also has an R8 similar mileage to mine and not had one problem. It’s a mixed bag. I literally follow UA-cam/Google and work on a drive. I personally wouldn’t spend that sort of money on a M2, but it comes down to preference. My company car has had no problems, but my Colleague has had nothing but problems (both brand new). We could be comparing all day. My original point was nobody should get into a decade old sports car and think it’s going to be a smooth ride. 10k is a lot to spend on any car no matter the age… hopefully you and your friend has better luck in the future!

    @STORM3SHADOW 8 днів тому +2

    I 100% believe the sweet spot was the Gen 1 V10 with the gated manual, but I'm a bit biased since I own one! 😉 But I do agree the Gen 1 is a better drivers car. It possessed so many analog elements(hydraulic steering, manual hand brake, mechanical LSDs, and of course, the atmospheric V8/V10!) and the design was timeless-- it still looks modern even today! The trademark sideblades were very distinguishing.
    The Gen 2 is obviously more capable and has a much nicer and more modern interior, but the electric steering is too numb, there was no manual transmission offered, and just like most supercars of the last decade, they have become too clinical and less visceral. The GT is a bit disappointing to me. They basically threw everything and the kitchen sink from the Audi Sport parts bin and called it "special". What Audi should have done was take a page from Lamborghini like they did with the STO. Make the final swan song R8 an homage to the racecar it was named after. Lightweight, RWD, more aggressive bodywork(have you seen the ABT XGT?) that would garner a "1 of xxx" number badge more than that GT they ended up offering. Long live the R8!!!! Its destined to be a future classic.

      As I state elsewhere. Friends of mine bought V8 Audi S5's. One guy bought a lovely one. Didn't keep it a year. Second guys one needed the engine out for a new clutch. The bill for that and few other things was around 8k. On a car he hadn't paid 10k for. Next thing he was driving a Fiesta and got an A6 for his office work. That broke down 200 miles from home and he sold it on the side of the road as he didn't have recovery on his AA.
      If you've got a good car, that's great. We got my girlfriend an A5 S-line Quattro for 36k pre registered when we could have got an old R8. We made the right choice. Ours is 67 plate. So now over 7 years old.
      Even with that, Audi say the brake discs are lipped. Whatever that means and it's 1600 quid for full replacements. In reality it's a 27k car with no hassles and still 70% left on the brake pads. Used to get warning lights regarding the computer updating. But other than one collision with a lorry. It's been no problem.
      Rich/sensible people don't buy old cars as it's false economy. If you've got your car on finance and get a 10k bill. Can you handle it? And if so? Why not just buy a new Cayman or Alpine/Lotus in the first place? I drove an R8 at a supercar day in 2015 and even back then it looked old. Was a great (old) car. It was old even then.
      No one wants the auto R8 and the manual one has clutch problems if people keep racing it off the lights. In reality it's fur coat and no knickers. Rich people I know buy the 400bhp electric Jag thing and stuff like that.

      @ this is so far from your original point. You don’t need 50k for a good example, that was what you said.
      Rich people don’t buy old cars? Not seen the massive boom in restomods? Who owns all these old Ferraris, lambo’s and porches then?
      How are you comparing an A5 to an R8 that’s 10 years older and talking about bills 🤣 anyone who buys these cars knows there’s bills associated with them.
      I had an Evo x before this and an engine rebuild cost me £12,000. If you can’t handle that stay out of performance cars, they’re not comparable to your A5. The guy I bought the R8 from is a good friend I go to the Nurburgring with each year. He drove it hard for 10k miles, no issues outside of regular maintenance

      @@soupondaroof1Nothing decent for 30k on Auto trader. These cars, even saying that. Have lot of value over the last 2-3 years

      Buddy, you are just rambling incoherently. I much rather listen to what the hosts say about the matter. And lastly, the cayman….as nice as it is, is no r8.

    The new one is straight up ugly. Its so over wrought. It makes the OG look elegant by comparison.

    The Audi Badge on the bonnet looks awful on both cars. Incredible how selfish a company can be to have the necessity having to put the badge in the front at all cost even when disrespecting the cars design. The position is way too high. Like having a tattoo on a forehead. Looks stupid

    The OG is a better looking car and the last model looks like most of supercars today….aero dictates everything nowadays what a pity.
