Stephen's entire career in television was just an elaborate scheme to convince a network to let him do this.
Hahahahahha yes
Of course!! lol
Roflmao Yes it was!
Pretty sure it worth it...
Lol!
The only reason Stephen went to NZ was to do something LOTR related, we all knew it.
obviously. He IS a massive LOTR fan.
You know, these movies are the reason why NZ is drawing so many tourists.
only reason why I'd go to NZ
(I hope I didn't offend anyone. I don't life traveling in general and I only put up with traveling for absolutely necessary life experience. Like going to Hobbiton.)
But it's a privilege reserved only for him: making a clip out of it on the very set starring himself, with the actors and the director of the original movie appeared as cameos, had it aired and seen by thousands, and made many tolkiens' fans like me super jealous
@@kreia187 ahh actually people have been visiting our country for many years, we didn't need Lord of the rings to make us fabulous, thank you

The fucking legend.
lol now when you say that that actually reminds me his role in Lotr
Best bit 😂 what a legend
the absolute fucking legend
Should of showed him rubbing a tree stumps and getting tree sap out lol
It’s kinda cringe seeing him try to make fun of something he loves so much.
They should’ve asked Daniel Radcliffe to come back as Frodo.
that would be hilarious
Now that is genius.

Nah. There'll only one frodo

The Peter Jackson cameos are the funniest thing ever! He's always so serious, I can't believe he's that funny or that good a sport. The Hogwarts and star wars jokes were A+
@David Goodfellow That was young Peter. though. Now he's into making emotional documentaries.
@David Goodfellow Really? I got the impression that he was more or less coerced into doing this for Stephen...
@@SpaceCattttt He acts coerced as part of the joke. If he was actually coerced, he firstly probably wouldnt have acted that way and even if he had, he wouldnt have agreed to put nearly as much effort into his role as he did. He got fully in costume and also agreed to lines basically mocking himself, if he didnt want to do this, he could have done far less.
Typically a kiwi thing
@Angry Santa - Agreed. xD
"Cease and desist - JRR Tolkien's estate" that's it that's the most accurate one LMAO
This reminds me of oldschool UA-cam, but with a massive budget.
@Arkatox - Same here. xD
And now you have understood the importance finacial planning in the entertainment industry.

That was cool that the LOTR actors and Peter Jackson would go along with this satire. Awesome folk once again.
It's not satire. It's a parody.

Man Elijah looks like the nicest person ever
He really is super nice. I met him at Sundance, I was crossing the street and I was slipping on the ice and someone yelled “hey are you okay?” And I was embarrassed anyone saw me and just said “yeah, yeah”... and I look up - it was Elijah Wood. Then he held the door open for me as I went inside the building. I was just some random girl he didn’t know. So sweet.
He is a good guy, I met him at a LOTR fair with Viggo and Ian. Every member of the cast was super nice.
I woke up from a dream when I hear a loud beeping noise. It was the fire alarm, the whole building was burning! I screamed and asked myself who could save me now? Suddenly, I hear a voice from outside: "F**k it, I'm going in!" - It was Elija Wood. Just went in there and saved me and 4 orphans. When he came out of the building, everyone clapped. It was the best day of my life.
Looks are deceiving but in this case you’re right

If Tony Stark and Loki had a baby, it would be Darrylgorn.

They probably blew a whole quarter's budget on this.
Peter Jackson’s first movie “Bad Taste” is an absolute must watch, he wrote/directed/stared in 3 of the major roles, filmed in South New Zealand in the 80s and shows the real Kiwi life without being overproduced by mega Hollywood budgets. As an American born to a NZ mum I found this movie in a dumpster in the back of a licorice pizza record store and it changed my life! Mum thought it revolting and wanted to stop me from watching it at 12yrs old but AHHHH HAAAA Mum this movie was made in New Zealand! “Oh! Well then you can watch it”.

I would pay a lot of money for a series, (better yet a podcast) or even just a one-off thing, where Colbert discusses and explains, at length, the lore behind Tolkien's work, and I know I'm not alone.
I've spent a good bit of time searching for each and every time Colbert mentions LotR, it's enthralling to hear him talk about it, to see his eyes just light up - I swear, he looks ten years younger. He would have the enthusiasm to do it right, and there's no one else on the planet who could do it as well as he could. The fact that Tolkien's work has become so deeply ingrained in Western fantasy culture is a fact that merits investigation and study, and, again - no one on Earth could do justice to the paradigm shift that is Tolkien's fiction works like this man could, absolutely no one has the breadth of knowledge, memorized, that Colbert does. Plus, with the amount of lore one can dig out of the LotR, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion, and the other short stories and whatnot that exist, there's easily enough content for a series, probably multiple seasons depending on just how wide they could decide to go with it. I guarantee any streaming service out there would pay top dollar for the chance to create that.
It would make a huge amount of money, guaranteed, it would have a massive audience, it would cost very little to make and would be quite easy to shoot/record. I know Tolkien's estate is careful about what sorts of things they'll allow, but Colbert has never shown anything but respect and reverence for the works or the author, so I would be surprised if they were against something like this. Not to mention, Colbert himself would probably LOVE it! Speaking as a fellow nerd who loves nothing more than getting to talk, in depth, about the subtleties and minutia of my nerddom, I'm sure it would be a lot of fun for Colbert to do. Maybe it's something he could do for fun after he's ready to, hopefully a long time from now, set down the crown of King of Late Night Comedy. I know I'm not alone when I say that even the idea of this brings a childlike grin to my face. I really think people underestimate the audience for this type of media. Billion dollar idea for you here, Mr. Colbert. Fly me out to N.Y. and I'll consult pro bono. #colbert #LordOfTheRings #LSSCinNZ
