When is the last time you seen that kind of raw tension created in under a minute in any TV show produced today? Good writing, good acting, good dialogue, good story telling, good action -- all in under 4 minutes.
It's sad shows like that are gone forever!!!
The music is what does it. That rifleman theme when it's about to hit the fan and you tense up.
I grew up watching the Rifleman, Fury, The Beverly Hillbillies, Bonanza - you name it. I learned lessons on truth and human nature and how one good turn deserves another. There will never be another generation of people like us because there will never be lessons like these delivered in such a way, ever again.
@@JustMe-vk4fn Very profound. Never thought about it quite that way.
Amen. I love watching tv show like that. You learn more about life the way we are to be not the way things are today. Give me the old ways.
Even in this small part Lee had a huge presence. There are no small parts.....for an actor like Lee.🤠
Just a play move on to next play
In real life Lee Van Cleef was the fastest gun in Hollywood unless it was Sammy Davis, Jr. Lee told John Wayne while waiting to do a scene in "Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" he could draw & pull trigger before Wayne could clap his hands together while holding them just a few feet apart. They got Lee Marvin to count it off and Van Cleef did it. Wayne said"How am I suppose to out draw you in this scene?" Van Cleef said "I'll slow down for you Duke" & Wayne said "Nice of you to give me a break".
bob lackey I’ve heard the same story too. I’ll bet Lee had to slow down for Clint too! LOL
It´s true i know the scene and the moment!
The good old days of television...westerns on all channels every night of the week, Roy Rogers on Saturday morning.
marcomalo02 yep, it could be a lot worse, and I guess today it is. Sad.
Safari on Saturday morning as well.
PC hypocrites ruin everything.
20+ years of Gunsmoke. It was a great couple of decades.
@@bluebird802 Oh yeah, white man good, red man bad.Go and learn some HISTORY.FFS.
Lee Van was the ultimate villain in westerns, The good, the bad and the ugly.
rich bingham hell ya he was
But he never killed John Wayne like Bruce Dern did.
can ya'll only imagine this scene in hd today, oh wow...unforgiven bar scene is trumped (no!) in spades...thanks for posting this rich bingham, excellent
No Shane The best gun fight ever!
Yeah, but Col. Douglas Mortimer, though
Barkeep at 1:29: Aw, shit. Here we go again...
I remember Mad Magazine version of The Rifleman. First panel Lucas was telling his son, "I'm a peace lovin' man." Second panel had bodies with flies buzzing around. Lucas says, "And there ain't nuthin' more peaceful than a corpse."
Now THAT'S something I haven't thought about in decades; Mad Magazine! My favorite parts were the fold-in and Spy vs. Spy. Thanks for reminding me of all that stuff.
Don't forget Don Martin.
Mdebacle cu
I9 Kia m. By 7
and don't forget he gets shot full of holes by Gail Davis aka Annie Oakley in the end
Mdebacle do you remember Mad magazines depiction of Bat Masterson. Everybody is sitting in the saloon and Bat Masterson flys in over the swinging doors. lol
Omg Van Cleef was GORGEOUS. He had fantastic eyes and he knew exactly how to use them! So charming!
Lee Van Cleef was the best of the villains with the eyes to match 😍
You have good taste
So THAT'S how Lee Van Cleef lost the tip of his finger.
These actors were really good
Geoffrey Johns back then yes they were good actors now you got will Smith and denzel washington opps forgot to use capitals when spelling their names it comes with their acting ratio ratings 0 how can will Smith ever play Jim west in wild wild west it's stupid or they need glasses Robert Conrad is white not black oh well shitty movie
so I guess he answered the question......the gun was talking.
That’s my thought, also! :)
What they story didn't show is the bullets kept on going. The one that shot the bottle continued through the wall and killed a mother on the other side. The other shot that hit the shot glass continued on through the wall and killed a little girl. It's stupid stuff like that kills people. They hanged the rifleman the next day. Dan (Lee Van Cleef) was there and said - Ha ha. No gun to talk now.
@@robertthomas5906 So what were a mother and daughter doing in a saloon ?
One of my fav. Shows growing up and til this day I have those same feelings..Must be 💘 Love.

Old post but wiki says connors was only 196 cm.
Lee Van Cleef was
the best of the smirking, sinister-faced badmen. Leo Gordon was right with him. The epitaph on Cleef's headstone
reads: "THE BEST OF THE BAD."
I liked the two westerns he did with Leif Garrett.
Don't forget william smith...
The very first time I watched this show was when I went to visit my dad at home 8.5 years ago when he was dying of cancer. I fell in love with the show and have seen every episode several times. Whenever I watch it, it reminds me of watching it with him.
Condolences Lawrence. I glad you have this memory.
Yes. I too my dad is gone now but l still love watching the old western. I hope they live on forever.
💙
I have been watching this show since the 70s. Just started watching it again in "Tubi" it is free and keep enjoying it.
I am sorry for your loss.
Lawrence your dad sounded like a great man he certainly had good taste in TV shows
Two great actors that starred in some wonderful films. Chuck was terrific in The Big Country, and Lee was brilliant in Good, Bad and the Ugly.
Angel Eyes meets Geronimo!
Ah ha.!
the rifleman was my favorite
dewerbylhserf, Try Richard Boone Have gun will travel.
@@elbandido9887 Not as good as _The Rifleman_
I loved "The Rifleman" when I was a kid... For some reason, though he never said anything our loud, I could tell my father didn't think much of it. Years later the subject came up, somehow, and I asked him why he didn't like it. He said because it was unrealistic. A man with a young son like he had wouldn't be so eager for violent, possibly fatal confrontations... Go figure.
On his headstone it is engraved "The best of the Bad". You were awesome Lee, God Speed to you.
Then Ol' Lee rode off into the Sunset, just to get shot by Clint Eastwood. LOL
Better to get shot by Clint Eastwood than some no name cowboy
@@nancyneville8700 No name? This was the Rifleman.
@@johndickson9542 Like he said, no name cowboy.
This aired in March of 1959. It probably was made in late 1958. Lee does die in this episode but in a couple other Rifleman episodes he does not die. But if you're gonna watch a lot of Lee Van Cleef, most of the time, he will die. If you want to see Lee REALLY young, type in "Lee Van Cleef Space Patrol". This is from 1952.
oh man chuck connors my favorite.and lee vancleef.man that guy could portray a bad ass dude.he was one hell of an actor
Used to live these style of westerns in England. Sunday midday telly.
Love how the only four folk relevant to the discussion theyre having are the only four in the scene too.
No one else in the pub , sorry..bar...no passers by and no onlookers.
Great stuff.
Lee Van Cleef got to be one of the all time great villains.
The rifleman performed a preemptive strike. The best defense is a strong offense.
One of the greatest shows in TV history.
Of all the tv shows that have been made into movies The Rifleman has the most potential . How did Lucas 's wife die ? Where did he get his Winchester modded ? What did he do during the Civil war .? .A movie is needed to answer these questions .
Angel Eyes, we'll never see another like him. R.I.P.
Imagine if Cleef had been directed just a shade better in this scene. Gauge his performance in The Twilight Zone's "The Grave" to see how good he could be on television. He was just a hair off here. Even his look was slightly off as well. Refer to "High Noon" to see how powerful his screen presence could be without him saying a word.
Lee Van Cleef....awesome actor
"I live my life to accoording what Lucas McCain would do"
It would be better to live your life based on reality. Not what a tv character would do who was written to always win.
@@mikeyoung9810 That might have been sarcasm...
Old classics ....Golden classics .........💕
Branded, with Chuck Connors as Jason McCord was on around the same time as this, but I always preferred The Rifleman.
I get The Riffleman on every Saturday morning from 6-10. As a kid I didn't see this show boy im making up for it now..The GOOD the BAD and the UGLY... Lee Van Cleef played his bad guy parts so well.
Chuck Connors played in the NBA, and was actually the first recorded player to break a Backboard while dunking! To bad He smoked his life away
LEVER ACTION FOR LIFE!
Fox Blue River o
When you think about, this show is completely insane. The hero never goes anywhere without carrying a rifle that leaves only his left hand free. The sheriff is a little old man who seems entirely useless. The hero is a vigilante who takes the law into his own hands. The villains all seem to have a death wish. The hero has killed more men than you can count but he’s never arrested or tried for murder. The hero never seems to actually have a job or other means of support but he’s always clean shaven and his shorts are always pressed.
Lee Van Cleef will always be "angel eyes" to me.
I love this, Lee Van Cleef, the accountant from Summit New Jersey, the baddest man in the West ever.
A young Lee van Cleef. Later his character got more sinister with lesser words.
I love Lee Van Cleef, especially in this episode! I have thought about it too much and wanted to ask: "How can Dan Maury drink all night and all the next day and not be drunk? Didn't he have to use the outhouse?" Then, still overthinking this episode, I concluded that he's an alcoholic and can seemly handle his liquor. As for the trip to the outhouse, I answered that one while in deep thought. He could use the spittoon to urinate in and further terrify and disgust Sweeny, the bartender. Told you, overthought this a lot! As for being in Yuma Prison for 5 yrs. rotting away. That must be where he met James Coburn (not in reality, just in these Western stories). Ok, Coburn was in Yuma Prison too. Anybody see "The Last Hard Men"? He was Zack Provo. On the show, "Cheyenne," the episode "Trouble Street", has both actors and they're thick as thieves. I know that actually they both were in "Ride Lonesome" before that. Their characters don't really have anything to do with the other very much in that film. So that's why the "Cheyenne" episode + "The Last Hard Men"= the backstory I have concocted just now. Thanks for reading. I'd love to write out some of my original fan fiction one day! Maybe I will. :D
bob lackey Yes, I did know about Van Cleef's accident. I'm quite a fan. I too have seen the clip entitled "Lee Van Cleef /James Coburn share a rare scene together". Yes, I enjoyed it! I first saw the whole episode on Netflix. Then Netflix went and got rid of all cool old western TV shows. I hate that!
Juana Maria S. Well Netflix made a huge mistake. If you want to see Lee Van Cleef in the Lone Ranger, go to his IMDb page and click on "videos". All three Lone Ranger episodes are there. Plus you may enjoy "My Mother The Car" from 1965 as it's a comedy and Lee plays a lawyer.
Juana Maria S. Yes, I have seen Van Cleef in the series "My Mother the Car". Very silly show, but hey Van Cleef was on it!
JUANA MARIA S, you sound like a fun gal. Never thought about that episode in that way.lol
Fun fact about _The Rifleman_ : Even though 'Lucas' fired his rifle a huge amount of times, this show had the least number of "killings" of any of the Westerns of the day (and for many years afterward).
Another interesting fact: _The Rifleman_ was the only Western that spawned a teenage hit singer -- in real life. Johnny Crawford was an accomplished singer with a half-dozen hits.
Chuck Connor, Jack Palance, Clint Walker, John Wayne, James Arness. oh my god, all these huge cowboys made up the westerns.
Son: You believe in peace don't you paw?
Lucas: No son, I believe in killing people.
- Mad magazine
The Rifleman was one of my favorite programs.
When told to leave town immediately, he should have replied, "I generally leave town just after I finish my drink. Why don't cha come back in about 10 minutes?"
In ten minutes you’ll be drinking in hell.
One of the very best of the western bad guys. Lee Van Cleef was definitely a bad ass but a very good actor with a long and impressive resume of films to his credit.
I use to love the Rifleman as a kid but even now looking at it I wish he'd worn a gun belt , there just seems something missing.
Anyway i love all westerns thanks for upload
Lee Van Cleef, was in Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and yep he used a grenade rifle, said he picked his teeth with em. Great actor.
Wasnt til the end i realised he wasnt saying 'my guitars' but 'mike gutarez(spelling? Im australian, we dont run into many down here)' which frankly made a lot more sense lol
I thought he said guitars too
Thanks mate lol
🇦🇺
Always played a great cowboy.
Luke McCain, such a bad ass. I love the rifleman show. Mucho, macho
What a handsome man LVC is here. You'd never know it from his spaghetti westerns. He looks like he has a good sense of humor. I would have liked The Rifleman more if there weren't such a disparity in the sizes of Mark and Lucas. Visually it jarred me - then and now. I am not a gun enthusiast but I love the opening of the show.
I was born in Los Angeles Ca. in 1954 , grew up watching Have Gun -Will Travel, The Rifleman, and other westerns they had at that time , I had a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun rifle I use to play with , LVC is "THE BEST OF THE BAD" check out Glock 19 visiting Lee Van Cleef's grave .
His son Mark, "Gee paw. If yer a man of peace, why are you always killing people?" Lucas, "Just look at him a laying there Mark, all still and quiet. Mark, have you ever seen anything more peaceful than a dead man?" Mad Magazine.
The Rifleman episodes were so tense!
"Good, Bad & Ugly", "For A Few Dollars More", "Big Gundown", "Death Rides A Horse", "Day of Anger", "Sabata", "Magnificent Seven Ride", "Barquero", "El Condor", "Take A Hard Ride" are some Lee starred in. Others include "High Noon", "The Tin Star", "Ride Lonesome", "Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", "Rails Into Laramie", "Road to Denver" & many more. Plus TV shows such as this, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, Range Rider, Lone Ranger, The Lawman, Kit Carson, Annie Oakley, The Deputy, etc
Actors playing a part, so many actor's, so many characters, so many takes. Actor's who take their characters into the real world normally die
Then there was Audie Murphy.
I.read all the the mens whose talk about lee van cleef.and the all says greatiful words about him and I was follow his westren films since 1970and another years .he is gone .and memorial stay mind .there is anice days ago .good luck for all.
i rode into town for a pure taste for drinking whiskey😎😀😀😀
Norm. Panganiban
I remember when I was a kid watching westerns. There was always a lot of action in the saloon. I thought whiskey must be some really good stuff. I remember my total dissappointment the first time I knocked back a shot. I had to read the lanel on the bottle just to make sure I hadn't accidently got a dose of my dads chainsaw gas.
Chuck Connors The Fastest Gun in the West.
Classic,,Van Cleef...Classic McCain too!
He's not saying ' my guitars ', He's saying " Micah Torrance ", his friend the Sheriff. So there! Cheers ! RCF.
Hey thanks! I mistakenly thought that Lee said "Sidebuster" referring to horses or cattle. But "sod" makes sense.
Lee Van Cliff and Jack Elam were 2 of the best villains in Hollywood. Without good villains the story is never as good.
I read that Connors' role in Old Yeller landed his job as Lucas McCain. Is it true ?
P.S. Lee Van Cliff is "The best of the bad"
The best western ever!!!!!
This episode is "The Deadly Wait",one of the better one's of the Rifleman,I could not wait until the character
Dan Maury got it, Lee Van Cleef could sure play some dirty roles.
Nobody treats Angel Eyes that way and gets away with it.
except for the nameless one
THE RIFLEMAN MEETS ANGEL EYES
what was the name of this episode?..love the Rifleman, Van Cleef, Conners, the whole bunch..
He had the coolest voice ever.
Most I ever heard him talk.
Love the task bar in the bottom..
Great acting in this, Cleeff was a fine actor and one of the very best bad men in films, I have long since forgiven him for that bloody awful "Ninja" rubbish he had to do in his later years
Me:
You shot my whisky now I want my money for it. Either kill me or give me my money.
Great scene
When I was a kid, everyone wanted to be the "Rifleman"....
angel eyes!!
Watch the rifleman Every chance I can
I love his eyes
Two badasses
How old was Mr. Van cleef then ,19 ? Fine scene.
Lee Van Cleef, in spite of his Dutch sounding name, looks like a Native-American mix.
Nothing surprising, since the Dutch were the first colonizers of America.
Shit...I'd have the Rifleman calling me "Daddy" before the sun sets!
Almost missed Lee, he was bent forward so I thought it was a shorter fellow. But what you mentioned about Chuck Connors above, the only guy who could tower over him was Richard Kiel.
+tenhirankei Chuck Conners was a member of the Boston Celtics basketball team briefly. And he played pro baseball before turning to acting.
During his Army service, Connors moonlighted as a professional basketball player, joining the Rochester Royals and helping to lead them to the 1946 National Basketball League championship.[5] Following his military discharge in 1946, he joined the newly formed Boston Celtics of the Basketball Association of America.
Connors left the team for spring training with Major League Baseball's Brooklyn Dodgers. He played for numerous minor league teams before joining the Dodgers in 1949, for whom he played in only one game. He joined the Chicago Cubs in 1951, playing in 66 games as a first baseman and occasional pinch hitter.[6] In 1952, he was sent to the minor leagues again to play for the Cubs' top farm team, the Los Angeles Angels.
He was drafted by the NFL's Chicago Bears, but never suited up for the team. He is also credited as the first professional basketball player to break a backboard. During warmups in the very first Boston Celtics game, on November 5, 1946 at Boston Arena, Connors took a shot that caught the front of the rim and shattered an improperly installed glass backboard.[7]
In 1966, Connors played an off-field role by helping to end the celebrated holdout by Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax when he acted as an intermediary during negotiations between management and the players.[8] Connors can be seen in the Associated Press photo with Drysdale, Koufax and Dodgers general manager Buzzie Bavasi announcing the pitchers' new contracts.[9] Wikapedia
I come on here and I have a thirst for drinking whiskey lol
Now that wasn’t friendly.
This is the most where I hear Van Cleef talking.
And Van’s wife said he was nice as could be!
Sorry, Johnny Crawford was the actor who portrayed Mark McCain in the series.
When you have to shoot, shoot don't talk.....Tuco.
Back then, it seems a rifle bullet went no farther than the target. These days, instead of stopping after shattering the whiskey glass, it would have gone through the wall of the saloon and out into the street and probably into the next building. God help any people in the way.
He speaketh too much, me thinks.
Connors to Cleef:
"I prithee thee! Cease
thy inflammatory ruminations, lest thou be exceedingly well

Lee Van Cleef actually was pretty fast on the trigger. I well remember when he starred with Clint Eastwood in those spaghetti westerns.
That is one bad-ace beginning.
