Mkay but her burning down A 2000 year old air ending relic was really fucked up. She burned it just like firebenders burned down Aangs culture like it was nothing and killed everyone he once loved in it. For her to fire bend that obstacle course is very disrespectful.
@@Sims4T she hasn't learned how to properly channel her anger. she was doing it out of frustration. @@wheeinsdimple926 Did I compare it to murder? No. I brought up her fire bending and ruining artifacts from a damn near extinct culture, is really fucked up given firebenders disrespected it constantly in addition to burning his people to the ground. Fire bending is linked to that kind of like it’s linked to why Bolin and Mako don’t have parents anymore and yet Mako has no issues firebending. You think it’d be traumatizing to bend that element but nope, perfectly fine I guess. But that’s another gripe I have. Trying to compare punching a pillow to burning down 2,000 year old relics and then blaming your insane disrespect on the person you just disrespected is not in anyway comparable. It’s not the same thing. And ironically, meditations helps with being a hothead but she can’t listen long enough to actually do it. It’s like she wanted Tenzin to teach her but not the way it’s supposed to be taught. She was raised in a peaceful villiage in the southern water tribe not the Fire Nation under Ozai, so no her aggression is not a symptom of being coddled. Coddling does not produce being aggressive. She’s aggressive because that’s her personality. Everyone around her was calm, including her parents and her teachers. Her being coddled accounts from her nativity though. Her character arc would mean more to me if it actually stuck longer than a season. But you open the comics and then oops, she’s an asshole again. They keep restarting her character for conflict. They even admitted the made her more of an asshole in season 2 to make an even better arc for her character and failed royally.
She’s a gifted kid. Like she fully has gifted kid syndrome. Everything came easy for her so the moment something gets hard, she can’t cope because it goes against everything she knows about herself and what people have told her.
You are so right there. I really binged nearly all 4 seasons so far and the emotions of what she had gone through again And again were SO REAL. Her eyes wide open and innocent to this new and exciting world are so wonderful to begin with. She changes so much, especially after her PTSD but never looses who she truly is inside and becomes something greater. Her love is true and that is why we and love and want to cry for her so much.
i personally love how in the first two seasons they make her so bratty and just hotheaded, doesnt listen. it makes her so relatable because let's face it, most teens arent pacisift monks like aang (no slander to him i love him too) but just her not being perfect with flaws she has to work through just makes me feel so connected to her

It just clicked in my head that Korra's use of bending is more on the offensive side. I guess that's why she learned earth, fire very quickly. While Aang's bending was more on the defensive side. The longer I think of LOK, the more I appreciate the show.
I love the fact that they basically bring up the fact of how much bending has changed! Korra is already a master earthbender, but she has to basically relearn the tighter form of "city" bending from Bolin! She's used bending in wider spaces, but has to adjust herself to the smaller spaces. Gotta the world building.
Pro-Bending is probably one of my favorite things about the avatar universe, believe it or not a lot of people thought it was stupid when this show first came out
@Tinyrocket Yeah, with the way the world progressed where all nations are living in harmony then this time of peace and unity would bound to produce recreational activities like probending.
I really liked, and still like, the addition of pro-bending. It was a great way to show how bending styles have evolved since the end of ALTA. Since Republic City is like a melding pot of the four nations, it would make sense that the bending styles would change due to the influence of the others and adopt more of a mixed martial arts style.
@Tinyrocket They removed the martial arts aspect in favor of boxing to fit the unnecessary 1920s setting. A pretty bad move imo because it doesn't explain how for thousands of years there was a specific style to how you bend certain elements, but now its punch punch. It's also just less creative and interesting to watch.
@@vex6213 There _wasn't_ a thousand years of a specific style. The sun warriors don't firebend like the fire nation, Toph doesn't earthbend like any other (human) earthbender, and Iroh doesn't only use fire nation movements with his firebending (lightening redirection). The bending forms were never static. And they didn't remove the martial arts aspect, they followed through with it. Distillation down to necessity steps is just what happens to martial arts when exposed to multiple cultures and styles. That's why modern martial arts is what it is. It's good world building on several levels. "punch punch" is what the younger generation _should_ be doing. But they also made sure to have the old school like Tenzin and Beifong _not_ do it like that.
also not many people notice this or know this but that actually wasn’t momo! they’re a different species of lemur that aang found at other temples if i remember correctly, same with the bisons i believe as appa was also the last of his kind like momo 🥺

@@captaintf7759 could be right i haven't watched Korra and haven't read the comics yet in a while i thought i remember it being said by a few people on the atla sub reddit
Yeah, that never made sense to me why flying lemurs would go extinct. Sky Bison make sense because they're so intertwined with the Air Nomads, but what environmental pressure is there to cause a decline in the flying lemur population? And it's clear that there were surviving lemurs after the genocide because Momo exists. So what caused them to make Momo the last one?

I watched Star Wars when it released. Ever since then, every time I saw Mark Hamill act in something else, I kept seeing Luke Skywalker instead of whatever character he was playing. Then he played Joker in that Batman cartoon, and now I can see Mark Hamill for himself. His roles are no longer constrained by an iconic character from his past. The same thing happened with J. K. Simmons and J. Jonah Jameson. When Simmons was in other things, I could not unsee Jameson. Until Tenzin.
This episode is the first to have a recap after the opening sequence. The newspaper that Korra reads has pictures of Tahno and Amon on the back page. The newspaper Korra burns has pictures of Lin Beifong and Tarrlok. Tenzin tells Korra that his father had a hard time learning earthbending. His challenges were documented in "Bitter Work". While meditating together, Tenzin tells Korra that "air is the element of freedom". Iroh says something similar when he informed Zuko about the four nations in "Bitter Work". When Korra escapes Air Temple Island to go to the Pro-bending Arena, she dives into the water using a similar impact-softening waterbending technique Aang used in his battle against Phoenix King Ozai in "Sozin's Comet, Part 3: Into the Inferno".
Air bending might be the most op thing in this era, because practically no one uses it or has witnessed it in combat since aang, so you can’t efficiently counter it
The creation of Baguazhang as a formalized martial art, is attributed to Dong Haichuan who is said to have learned from Taoist and Buddhist masters in the mountains of rural China during the early 19th century. The practice of circle walking, or "turning the circle", as it is sometimes called, is Baguazhang's characteristic method of stance and movement training. All forms of Baguazhang utilize circle walking as an integral part of training.
What I can say is in the beginning of this series I definitely do love that they still remind us that Airbending art is Ba Gua. Especially how Korra was moving this episode Very few who haven't seen the behind the scenes would know the martial art styles for each bending, unless they have history in it like me with shaolin (firebending) Earthbending was Hung Ga (might have butchered the spelling, sorry) Air was Ba Gua and Water was Taiji
Because of the new paved roads that are more expensive and harder to repair earthbenders no long throw massive boulders or move large amounts of earth, they only throw small rocks in quick jabs. Basically the martial art that earthbending used to be based off of is now based off of boxing. I just like that little detail that bending styles have changed with the more expensive and harder to rebuild cities.
I like your explanation and another I read in the comments here (wide open areas & land vs closed-off areas & buildings). I sometimes see criticism about the change in Bending styles/maneuvers but never really had a well thought-out explanation for the change other than thinking 'because times change' and a lot of people-Earth Benders specifically-have adapted some of their ancestor's ways into common life to where it's just instinct without having to do those traditional movements (and also because no one wants to be running around barefoot and rolling around in dirt like back in the day during Aang's time lol). Example: you may have a great-great-great grandfather who was an amazing painter, in those times he had to create his own paints (via flowers, egg yolk, etc) and had a specific technique to painting and using a brush.. but in your lifetime you're also a great painter, the difference is that you don't have to go through all those techniques to get a certain color or shade, you can buy the acrylics or oil paints you need and get to work on that canvas. Doesn't mean you have no skill or aren't a master painter just because you're not crushing up plants and mixing with egg yolk and water to get the pigment you desire. That's how I saw the change in Bending styles, but your explanation adds to it and is very observant. 👍🏾
What you guys have to keep in mind is that Aang did all that when he was 12. He managed to mastered the 4 elements at 12-13. Korra is probably 16-17. The airbenders try to detach themselves from all earthly needs to be truly free. It’s almost like they are most conscious of their spirits than their physicality. That’s why it must be harder for them to be aware of their ability to create fire or bend earth/water, the way Korra could when she was little. Also Korra is especially gifted because she exceeds in the physical side of being the avatar. So it only makes sense that she could tap into fire, water and earth. Aang could go into the avatar state because he was especially in tune with the spiritual aspect of being the avatar. So it was easier for him to connect to his past lives. Korra can’t do that, she can’t talk to Aang yet either. It’s really interesting to see two avatars’ paths and how different they are.
@@Prime_Nexus1 It's the perfect defense for korra haters when they basher for saying she would've picked up airbending quicker if she listened to tenzin and did things his way
REALLY TEENY TINY MILD BABY SPOILER I really love that the relationship between Aang's closest son and Aang's avatar successor is the heart of this show, especially this first season.
Korra: I've dreamed of seen a pro bending match since I was a kid That means someone has talked to her about it, and she spent years not only thinking about it but obviouly at least talking about it with someone to be so invested in the subject just to not know one of the most basic rules the game has.
Well, I imagine she'd only heard it on the radio or maybe even only in newspapers. I kinda doubt Republic City radio waves are making it down to the South Pole. Given how strict the White Lotus guys are about tradition, it's possible she really only heard it in passing. Movies were only invented during the show, so not much visual aid. Korra grew up pretty isolated, so I can justify her not knowing every rule.
A sheltered child can grow up in a household that always listens to football on the radio, but it's a completely different experience for the kid to actually be on the field and playing it. A referee (and/or coach) may know all the rules but can he/she actually play and be good at it? I can watch wrestling and enjoy it, but I'd probably be terrible actually inside the ring doing what they do lol. Also, Korra learned the 'traditional old style' of Earth Bending where you have your entire environment as a resource, and through actually participating in Pro-Bending has to learn the modern (boxing-esque) style of Earth Bending-in a controlled environment with rules attached-which she's warming up to with help from Bolin.

NO MALICE. she wasn't thinking to herself "gee, I want to ruin this artifact bc tenzin loves it". no. she was frustrated and she fire bent. tell me you've never angrily broken a pencil or thrown something or punched a pillow. its the same shit. to compare that to literally murdering an entire race.... a lil farfetched
@@Sims4T she wasn’t raised In a village. She was raised in isolation under the watch of the white lotus
She’s a gifted kid. Like she fully has gifted kid syndrome. Everything came easy for her so the moment something gets hard, she can’t cope because it goes against everything she knows about herself and what people have told her.
Fact: Tenzin is the best character in this show. Not that any of them are bad.
Second best for me, Zaheer is my favorite.

You are so right there. I really binged nearly all 4 seasons so far and the emotions of what she had gone through again And again were SO REAL. She changes so much, especially after her PTSD but never looses who she truly is inside and becomes something greater. Her love is true and that is why we and love and want to cry for her so much.

i personally love how in the first two seasons they make her so bratty and just hotheaded, doesnt listen. it makes her so relatable because let's face it, most teens arent pacisift monks like aang (no slander to him i love him too) but just her not being perfect with flaws she has to work through just makes me feel so connected to her
the problem is that season 1 korra is suposed to have learn at least a bit about respecting and trusting tenzin but instead we start season 2 with her acting like a child and treating him and her dad like shit.

That's not how most television shows work and most definitely not how most teenagers nor young adults work either.

It just clicked in my head that Korra's use of bending is more on the offensive side. I guess that's why she learned earth, fire very quickly. While Aang's bending was more on the defensive side.
The longer I think of LOK, the more I appreciate the show.
It's not that different from when Aang had to learn Earth bending in a way that was comfortable for him and toph had to accept that
I love the fact that they basically bring up the fact of how much bending has changed! Korra is already a master earthbender, but she has to basically relearn the tighter form of "city" bending from Bolin! She's used bending in wider spaces, but has to adjust herself to the smaller spaces. Gotta the world building.
Ah, Bolin. Best character in the show. A worthy successor to Sokka’s comedy. Fight me.

Naaaaaaaaaah really? I wouldn’t have guessed.
He is more patient with airbending than jazz.
I thought it was fun and cool how the rules worked. The animation is really good too.
I believe that the fire nation priests who didn't support Sozin managed to hide enough of the bison for the species to recover
aang found a herd of sky bison on some random island i thought but i might be wrong about that but I'm a hundred percent sure they are the same sky bison as appa is also the lemurs are called ring-tailed winged lemurs
@@jooshgoosh maybe I'm wrong but I think in the next season the priests who saved Korra after she lost her memory mentioned it to her
@@captaintf7759 could be right i haven't watched Korra and haven't read the comics yet in a while i thought i remember it being said by a few people on the atla sub reddit
I love how she's so diferent from Aang, both are great. I still prefer Aang tho. But I think Korra is more relatable in human terms, because Aang was trained by monks since he was a little kid
Also, guys you gotta consider Korra is kind of a gifted girl, I mean she was bending three elements when she was very young, for her being unable to learn air bending must be so frustrating jaja but this is why she's gotta (and will) learn a lot of things through the whole show, it is a GREAT show.

The Korra game actually has a pro bending game mode. Also Korra's attitude makes a lot more sense once you learn more about her past.
Korra knew she couldn’t just not learn airbending 😂😂💯
Mako is named after irohs original voice actor

The creation of Baguazhang as a formalized martial art, is attributed to Dong Haichuan who is said to have learned from Taoist and Buddhist masters in the mountains of rural China during the early 19th century.
The practice of circle walking, or "turning the circle", as it is sometimes called, is Baguazhang's characteristic method of stance and movement training. All forms of Baguazhang utilize circle walking as an integral part of training.

I found y’all bout a week or two ago with Haikyuu and I’ve binge all of that and I finished all of the Avatar vids just in time for Korra
What I can say is in the beginning of this series I definitely do love that they still remind us that Airbending art is Ba Gua. Especially how Korra was moving this episode
Very few who haven't seen the behind the scenes would know the martial art styles for each bending, unless they have history in it like me with shaolin (firebending) Earthbending was Hung Ga (might have butchered the spelling, sorry) Air was Ba Gua and Water was Taiji
Poor Tenzin. Tries to emulate an airbender's Zen so hard but he obviously inherited his mother's temper.
I just gotta say, this intro animation always, always gets me hyped.
Finally I was in pain when I couldn't watch it right away 😂😂
It’s really interesting to see two avatars’ paths and how different they are.
he did not master all 4. only 2 air and water.
Korra is essentially if Toph had been the Avatar instead of Aang.
I love mako's move just like Mohammad Ali and yes that move inspired from the legend himself

Fun fact....the bending arena is made out of pure gold....ALL OF IT!!!
Korra: I've dreamed of seen a pro bending match since I was a kid
That means someone has talked to her about it, and she spent years not only thinking about it but obviouly at least talking about it with someone to be so invested in the subject just to not know one of the most basic rules the game has.
I mean the don't have tv's so she doesn't really know how to play
