Before you go into the hot springs you gotta clean yourself. Either with a shower hose thingy or you fill a basket/bucket with water like cid did and then when you’re done throw the rest of it over yourself. It’s just to be all sparkly clean before going into water that potentially other will share with you. Also some families share like the warm water that they fill in the bathtub so then they usually do a wash on a little stool in the bathing room before going into the bathtub. Now I’m not Japanese so maybe I’m stereotyping/explaining wrong but that’s what I’ve gathered from travelling in Japan and anime/manga/light novels.
just the other day i saw that in an anime, that a family shared the water of their bath, which i didnt understand tbh because yes youre "washing yourself" beforehand but isnt the water still dirty then? or do you wash yourself completely and only take the bath for relaxation purposes, meaning the water barely gets dirty at all and youre just chilling in the tub?
@@Flexy59 basically the bathtub is purely for relaxation. You do all of the cleaning beforehand. Shampoo, conditioner, soap etc. finish all of it, then make sure to rinse it all off, then go into the tub. it's 40degrees celsius usually (or more) and altho it's very hot it's super nice to just lean back and relax. I'd wager it's also healthy altho ain't factchecking that lol
