I went down into Ettrema gorge with a few mates back in 1967. We started at Quiera clearing (Tolwong road), found a gap in the cliffs, went to the bottom and returned the same way.
Was the group you were with a guided tour group or were you hiking amongst friends? i would love to do an 'off track' hike, but i dont feel confident yet.
Yes - I'm glad I had the opportunity to go there when I did. You may be interested in this document which includes some photos from that visit: www.aussiesapphire.com/ALF_Storage/Field%20Geology%20of%20the%20Shoalhaven%20District%20John%20Paix%201970.pdf
John those photos are amazing! I have visited Ettrema a number of times over the last ten years or so and was actually in the Gorge when this video was made with another party. It is a magical place and I have been searching for earlier photos of the Gorge to see how it has changed over the years. Your photos show what I have long suspected, that the vegetation was once much more open (relatively speaking). This is perhaps not surprising given the changes to management regimes, but wow it's really cool to see those photos. When I get a spare second i'll take a good look at the rest of the document. Thanks for sharing.
Too funny Bruce. Nothing to do with cold... it's for pushing, moving, clambering through thick scrub... if you watch to the end you'll see the bit on hakea. Tough thorny stuff!
You to me are one of the best outdoor youtuber ever, you have told me stuff I have never know about thankyou and keep up the good work
What an amazing area and an awesome hike. Lots of bushwacking. Looks like gloves, glasses and gaiters were well used. Great video.

We were a group from the Sydney Bushwalkers Club. Definitely recommend going with an experienced group! Solo hiking off-track isn't a great idea.

Why are so many people wearing gloves? It can't be that cold.
