I don't dislike "burn" and "love me like you do" but I do prefer alot of her earlier music... it has a rawness to it that also makes it pure.
Her most recent stuff seems refined and contained to be more mainstream, which isn't bad it just doesn't command my attention as much

Sometimes there are days when a gentle sadness creeps into my mind, that makes me miss the "old" ellie. The ellie who didn't even have 1 million fans on facebook and made beautiful folky music. As the years have gone by her music got more and more commercial. I truly wish that she returns to her roots one day but let's be honest, she deserves the success. My only hope is that it doesn't make her lose her magic completely. I still think the folk kinda stuff suits her the best :)

I believe she still holds her originality it's just put in a different light. I don't believe her new stuff sounds commercial at all. Its definitely changed a bit from the folky stuff which i love but its definitely not missing her touch in it. Plus, her new albums are beyond some boring pop stuff that sounds uninteresting I mean come on the halcyon album was way different then just some trendy pop album that wasnt givin much thought...hint hint... explosions...dead in the water... figure 8.. tesselate cover.... they all sound so original. I feel she still is staying true to herself and just because there's a lot of cases where people get famous and they start making crappy music to appeal to the crappy media doesn't mean ellie is just the same. Yeah she's more famous now but it doesn't mean she is going down that same path....

I agree with you Braden Cardigan. 'Lights' and its re - release 'Bright Lights' were undoubtedly her best work ever. I also like 'Halcyon' and its 'Halcyon Days' re - release. The three albums which followed : 'Delirium', 'Brightest Blue' and 'Higher Than Heaven' sound more like generic pop music in comparison to the folk / synth pop sound Lights / Bright Lights and the electronic folk sound of Halcyon / Halcyon Days. Hopefully one day Ellie will go back to the sound which defined her Lights and Halcyon eras.

With lights/bright lights and halcyon/halcyon days she was a very unique recording artist, but delirium, brightest blue and higher than heaven seem somewhat manufactured in comparison. I'm guessing Ellie decided to evolve her sound to keep her music fresh as many other artists do, but the problem is that they don't sound as unique as her first two albums and their re - releases. For her next album after higher than heaven, she should do a full acoustic folk album in the same vein as lights and bright lights but combine it with a different sound.
@@tomspence8506 Truth, she's like L'Oréal! Yes, that would be so good to hear, a return to her folk roots but mixing it up a bit for us. I'd love to see her perform live, video of her acoustic sessions remind us that she is not a mogul-manufactured pop princess, she's an artist & I hope she'll be around a long time to come. Guns & Horses acoustic is mind-blowing :0)

Her songwriting and skills come out better as a indie / folk songwriter than her overproduced electronic stuff from now. This doesn't need any extra production, her new stuff seems like it's written in 5 minutes and made on a computer :(
