Overwatch is (Still) TOXIC GARBAGE

- I've started playing Overwatch in 2016 during Closed beta, reached Top 10 EU in Season 1 with Rating 86, later on played at 4500+ level. Mostly played tanks, like Zarya and D.Va. After playing about a year, I've quit in mid 2017.
Why did I quit? Mostly because of the constant toxicity you had to endure if you wanted to queue in ranked as solo or duo (even though I played Flex a lot!). Back then, every third game had a Torbjorn griefer, even! I did have a very good team to play with, but life forces you to play as solo most of the time. It wasn't worth the abuse. After all, this is just a game.
I wanted to see if things have changed in 2022 with Overwatch 2. I couldn't queue as tank, so I went for support/dps. This video will probably display the current game state better than any review out there. Here's what happened during my placement games.

Dude, I'm so happy I stopped playing this kind of games. And it was fucking hard, i can tell you that, but I can't even count how many great single player and coop games I've beaten since then, with a big smile in my face every single time. Toxicity can absolutely destroy you and even turn you into a person you never thought you could become.
100%. I wouldn't have finished Red Dead Redemption 2 if it weren't for the toxicity in some of these games pushing me away.
And I believe that the toxicity is practically built directly into this type of game. The game's fault, not the players. They are feeling exactly what they are supposed to. It's not even remotely balanced in it's characters and it's goals/strategies conflict. In a game this limited and steamroll heavy, and where the optimal solution is to suicide so you can regroup with your team better and not feed ultimate charge, there are core issues in the design.
Well, that's the issue with this game. You're constantly being paired with people with negative IQ, and you can't leave because you'll get harshly penalized. *OF COURSE YOU'RE GONNA GET MAD!* If you give your all match after match, and you still lose because everyone on your team thinks they can 1 v 5 the enemy team, then they proceed to blame the supports (which are often mistaken as MMO type healers), of course you're gonna get pissed, specially when this happens match after match after match.
Like for example, you start a game, tank instantly goes DVa, jet packs straight to the enemy team 1 v 5, eats shit, blames the "healers" for it, refuses to swap the entire game/ swaps to roadhog and still eats shit. Then the next game the tank instantly picks DVA, gets countered by Zarya, refuses to swap, eats shit the entire match, blames the "healers". So on and so forth. And once again... *YOU CAN'T.FUCKING.QUIT.* It's torture. I'm not surprised people are toxic 8.5 out of 10 games, you need to be a fucking masochist to enjoy that shit. Now, i don't personally mind losing if it's a close match, but if you're straight up getting spawn camped match after match, it's fucking painful, not gonna lie.
For me its even worse, i often get the penalty because my pc crashes or my mom walks in
The lack of self awareness in so many ow players is astounding. It's unreal what will come out of people's mouths when they aren't winning. You can try to be civil, good call outs and everything. Hell even a GG at the end of a game will get your head torn off
Or they'll call you all types of crazy ass racist remarks. It's happened to me since the game came out and since overwatch
Started playing this because friends really wanted to play it, what they didn’t know was I played Overwatch hardcore for nearly two years and when they didn’t believe me I showed them all my gold weapons.
Point is, I know how toxic this game can be it’s the main reason I stopped. Enemy teams “GG’s” laced with toxicity and my own teammates crying because I’m bad at the game when my score says otherwise.
I was literally playing Symmetra and I had two people bully me saying they hate sym and cussing me out simply because I played Symmetra and I was getting called loser and telling me to cry saying I can’t spell and stuff it was so wild stuff like this just doesn’t wanna make me play the game tbh

*To put some missing context in:* In all of my placement matches, I've played on at least an average level, compared to my teammates. My wins were not featured in this video. I won more than I lost. In my losses, I did not ruin anyone's game with my performance, and I've also swapped heroes when I was asked to... Even tho, at the skill level that I was playing on (Platinum, that's where I got placed), the hero picks don't really matter that much - contrary to the belief of lifetime-Platinum players.
My initial wish was to play my main role - tank, but it wasn't possible with the 15+ minute queue (due to tanks slots being limited to only 1 in OW2). So I had to queue support, which I'm not great at. I did play some Quick Matches to get familiar with some of the supports I've not tried, since 2017 was last I played.
As I do read most comments from viewers, before you post yours, please re-read your comment before posting it, and double-check if it's actually appropriate for this video. A lot of people are getting their comments removed for being rude here. There's no excuse for being a cretin in games like this. Don't be one of them! I do apologize for not having patience/mercy for idiots online!
I don't exclusively blame the players for being toxic in OW. Blizzard is to blame as well, as their design decisions enable such an environment.

I would imo still perma mute the team, yes.. comms are important but most comms with randos are trash, in almost all competitive shooter game. Youre right this game is harsh on newbies when they fight veteran players. Im not impressed with the game so far, doubt ill stick to it. If blizzard is smart theyd release the pve side that theyd plan for this.
If you're new, how did you have competitive unlocked already? It doesn't matter but kinda weird.
I know nobody cares if I quit Ow2 just like they always said nobody would care that I quit WoW in 2008. They don't care until all there is left are elitest manchildren minmaxing the game to death and then they'll miss us casuals.
I just got told to do more damage at the end of a game while I was the second player with the most damage of the whole match. Now I rememeber why I quitted this game .
It's ridiculous sometimes. This morning I joined a looking group post and not even a full 2-3 minutes into the match and my team started arguing, like bro stop😭😂
I personally just mute those guys or troll them until they leave the match, they will later cry to their mom just downstairs anyways.
(anyway i don't play this kind of games, it's just dumb)
i dont blame a support player i blame everyone who play DPS that deal no damage yet still sticking to the same character
edit: btw this is not toxic, this is how this game being designed. having 1 "bad" player in a 5 man team, will ruin the fun of the rest 4. because the game is design around 5/6 player, so missing is a huge disadvantage. and getting stomp is no fun. that's why i quit long time ago because i have no 5 friends (4 now) to paly with. and i dont think get random "bad" player into my game is fun. so i quit.
I agree. First of all the matchmaking is so bad. Even in quick play, not only ranked. I have over 2k hours since ow1 and I still get new players who literally are playing their first game. I play mostly healers but I have few tanks and dps I am good at. For the healer it is nightmare to heal tank who is overextending or dpswho is on the other side of the map. Then you hear it is your fault even though you have had the most heal in the game. I think if someone says he can't play or haven't played in 5 years ,why he goes to ranked? Why not play quick play to get used to it again?

tbh, its not the players that bother me. its how fast the game is and u can't understand shit from what's going on. that's why i keep watching pubg tournaments. cause u understand what's going on every second.

There's an Overwatch coach called iostux who recommends muting chat with randoms, especially in lower rank. Because A) they're more of a negative reinforcement/distraction B) chances are players at that rank won't follow up on your call outs, because they're not at that level mechanically in low rank.
This game has a lot of mouth breathers that like to project their misery unto others, and especially love to blame everyone but themselves. It's wild to me seeing how upset they get over cartoon pixels and a superficial "rank," as if it's something of any real life sustenance at the end of the day.
Things that won't change:
- people flaming others when they are the problem
- not enough sanctions against toxic players letting them do what they want
- squads when they want to ruin a game, you can't do anything against that
- insults

Brother sprEEEzy no truer words have been spoken. That's why I lightly dabble in these games I'm not in them like that anymore. With these games I always make the joke, "Too many cooks spoil the broth" If too many people try to control, influence, or work on something, the final product will be worse as a result. Loud mouth idiots like those people always want to be in charge and there are THOUSANDS of people like them sadly.

I played one competitive placement and my whole team left I like to play Lucio but I'm losing faith in overwatch its so sad
absolutly agree . Games like overwatch are full of sweats that havent seen the grass for a long while and if u underperforme they will behave like most toxic lil kids that parents didnt teach a good manners . Imagine 20+ year old crying to his mic about a player and insulting others xd . Pathetic behaviour
It really is a shame. It's such a great, well-made game that's a ton of fun to play. But ultimately ruined by toxic zoomers and 30+ year old manchildren. Even just playing the arcade modes I found myself just turning the chat off completely at which point you start to question what the point in even playing a team-based shooter is.
for me its just a mish mash of colors and effects, no clue whats happening. I believe people like to watch slower more realistic games like pubg or dayz
If you are new with a new account you will not play with the players you have been playing with. I feel like the same toxicity exist in all games, I have just learned to not hear it. FYI, I like the revamp of the pvp.. For me it feels closer to the release of OW than what OW was in the end.
And this community is especially toxic to a female gamer. If they hear my female voice in a chat, sexist jokes appear mostly in each game. And if i do a gameplay mistake, some of my teammates will start explain me where my place is and what should i do with dishes at home or worse - teammates genitales. Very frustrating

Doesn't make any sense, tho, for you to be playing a mode where your contribution affects other peoples' rankings when you're not confident in your ability to play the game well. You admitted that you're not good at the game/competent with any of the characters. QP is there for you to get better at the game and familiarize yourself with the heroes.

I play dps in qp I have 333h as Sombra but I don't go on ranked because I know I am not flexible with that role enough to be valuable for the team. I play roles I know best. And I can have the highest heal in game but if dps or tank are not doing their job, the match can't be won. This is frustrating. I am not defending the toxic players, of course not, but on the other hand I can understand their frustration. They shouldn't have behaved like that. And when I o be fair I think he was good Ana and couldn't do much with that tracer attacking him. Of course Noone from his team helped with that. He was trying to switch as they asked to so he was doing his best. But still, quick play would have been better place to learn the game before going for competitive.

Sorry Spreeezy but I disagree with you. You went to play comp without knowing how to play the characters or much about the modern game. People play comp for the ranking, and you were messing up their game for them. You should have played Quick Play and got to know the game and characters first. I do agree how the game is toxic and people should not be talking to you like that.
Your assumption that I messed up anyone's game is wrong. In every game I performed at least averagely, compared to my teammates. You cannot base that on some kids screaming in this video. An enemy moira in one of the games having 4k more healing than me doesn't mean much without proper context.
I did in fact play Quick Play first! I'm not going to play it for a month before I queue Competitive. It's boring, and I've got thousands of hours in OW already. After all, if I don't play well, the ranked system will push me towards lower ranks. Fair play.
I'm also not blaming the toxicity of the players exclusively on the players. It's also Blizzard's fault for enabling such environment with their design decisions.
I agree with OP you didn't know what you were doing and threw as a result. Your game play was below average tbh. People like you get hard stuck in silver and can't ever figure out why. The issue is you drag everyone else down with you because you are to lazy to practice first.
Comp is Competitive not for learning and practicing. They are seperate game modes for a reason. Good riddance to you in OW2 tbh ubfortubetly theres 1000 more like you every day. But you are to blame, nobody else.

In all those games where the burdon of entry is so high, that you basically never have a chance with randoms, I either play with a full stack of friends or I dont play. I really wonder how games like CS are so big with this constant toxticity.

This is a game at the end of the day QP or Comp and theres no reason to be so mean to each other. Just keep reporting these idiots and maybe hopefully we can create a better and more fun environment for everyone involved...

because people in qp just stand around , literally, after watching my dps and healer just stand around for half the match i stopped doing qp and moved to ranked where at least everyone is forced to try

What information did your team contribute? In higher ranks, sure, your team can contribute useful information. But you're not in higher ranks, all you have in chat are scrubs who cry that you can't carry them. If you're not at least in diamond, just mute your team and squelch chat. OW has a ping system, use that instead.
If anyone actually paid any attention to pings, they would be a great addition to the game. But I can spam an enemy is flanking and my team will NEVER come back and help 5v1. They just let the backline get hard countered and spam they need heals. No awareness WHATSOEVER.
This game is trash it’s completely unbalanced the hip boxes are all messed up and it seems like it’s impossible to kill anyone there’s like three extremely overpowered characters in the rest of them it seems like they’re shooting Spitballs through straws because you just can’t kill anybody you could shoot them for 10 minutes straight and it won’t kill them but they’ll turn right around and two or three shot you in a heartbeat this game is absolute shit
I'm so tired of Overwatch being so toxic. I've played a good amount of TF2 and I want us to be more like them. I'm trying little by little to encourage people not to blame their team, but to tell them how they can help better. We can be better than this

Toxicity is such a poor reason to stop playing overwatch or any game anything has its toxic side just as a good side just don't talk to randoms and play with friends and if you're complaining about someone not doing well then go take that to competitive quick play is for everyone experienced or new and learn what you're doing wrong and what you can do to be better

It's not about being affected by it, or feeling insulted. It's just the nuisance of kid-like adults screaming at you daily. No one really needs to put up with that in a game that's supposed to be for fun and leasure.
