this is awesome☺☺☺☺ I grew up watching volcano eruptions (eg. Pinatubo & Mayon) I used to lovey drawing this magnificent volcano when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing this.
congrats.. im from guinobatan albay.. i remember the time that we also climbed the majestic mayon volcano.. it was only "a trip" among relatives n cousins.. we climbed only half of the mayon, i think we ended just half of the volcano then at 3pm we had to go down for it was just a trip and unplanned...=). then months later the ferocious eruption begun in 1999 if i wasn't mistaken.. i didn't take away the idea of climbing it to the summit.. i envy you guys.. congrats..=)
It usually takes two days if you are going all the way to the top. One night sleep over on the mountain. The price is not very high. It all depends on what guides you use etc. I paid about 170 USD which includes a guide and two porters, pickup, food for 2 days, tent. The most expensive part is hotel and airplane.

Most of Albay are in Sulphur soil and beach from the volcano same in Camiguin Island it has Sulphur on the soil.
hey Roy, this is still one of my favourite Philippine climbing vids of UA-cam. It looks pretty steep in a few places on Mayon. Do you actually have to use your arms much to climb or is just a hike the whole way? Did you also hire the gas mask? I want to do Mayon this year!!!

You guys are really brave to climb an ACTIVE volcano. I would just climb a non active volcano. Because five people in the Philippines got killed for climbing an active volcano couple days ago

Awasome feeling at the top by the crater. We did not go down in the crater since we did not have a rope and it would also be a bit too risky.
Yes I wore the mask when we approached the top. We could smell the gas and know it was time to put on the mask. when you should put it on depends on where the wind is blowing. No problem climbing with a mask.

Yes we had to use our hands many places. Some places was not without danger. The mask was bought at a hardware store. Good luck with the climb :)

umm the story of the legend is kinda wrong they dont commit suicide they just been attack by their enemy but i loved this video and i also live in philippines in albay where mayon volcano were placed

Malaking insulto sa Armed Forces of the Philippines na sabi pa nga nasa mga taohan daw nila ang PINAKA MAGALING SA MOUNTINE CLIMBING. well trained daw sila..yun na nga...ipot lang pala ang mga taga AFP..talong talo ng mga civilian. Ang lesson learned..wag idaan sa astig at yabang, magpakumbaba.

I agree. I was in really bad shape back then. Really bad picture. But it was so insanely hot and I wanted to not have my shirt drowned in sweat, I am from north Europe so I am not used to the heat. We didn't take that many pictures so I figured a bad awkward picture was better than no picture. :)
