Everybody needs someone like Andy in their life... More Andy!
Loved this. Thanks for the smiles and priceless info!
Great advise. Specially while canoeing with other people. At least once a year my sister and brother-in-law like to come for a paddle as well but they're not into long days or portaging so I always have to work around that for where we go. I introduced them to portaging last year and even though they were super short, there was still some grumbling. LOL! But afterwards they loved it.
this makes it sound so easy to canoe ontario but people dont realize the size, id love to start my kids off on this type of skill set but man o man this is a minimum 6 hour one way drive for me being from souther ontario i need to retire with a pension to achieve this sadly
You don’t have to go that far! There’s incredible paddling in southern Ontario! Especially for day trips for the kiddos to get more comfortable. I say that as a born southern Ontarian with no pension 🤣 Creativity is key down here!
I have the MNR book still from way back when. And many of the brochures. Thanks for making me feel old! 🤣🤣. But you make up for it by saying that the average canoeist goes 2km/hr. I thought I was slogging along doing 3-4km/hr. 😃😃. Since my goal is to relax and possibly find a waterfalls or two, I often plan on paddling 10-12 km per day. I love my hammock time in the back country!
If Kevin & Andy were The Golden Girls, which one do you think they'd be?
I'm torn, I think both might be Rose. But if I have to make solid choices, Andy = Rose & Kevin = Sofia.
how about routes with no black flies or mesquitos or deer fly
Early Spring and Late Fall. Most routes are fine during that time.
thanks so much for taking my question. you guys are the best. happy paddling!
I met Hap Wilson on Saturday at the Canoe bookstore...bought his book and a friend took my pic with him.
Planning - great topic! Happy Easter weekend. I was just thinking about you Kevin, while I was getting a new map for the QE2 Wildlands at the Canadian Outdoor Equipment store….
Very informative, great topics. West Nippising is an awesome trip. Also Trout Lake and down the Mattawa River is excellent. Thanks Kevin and Andy. 🖒🖒
Thanks for the tip about grassy Bay I am heading there in 2 weeks.
since i worked a gold mine job in cochrane ontario ive alwats thought tamiskaming shores was the most gorgeuous spot on the way up to north bay by jesus
Flack lake and semiwite lake in missisagi Park are nice camping and fishing with no portages as well.
That looks like the back of my tiny house width!
That looks like the back of my tiny house width!
Great video. Would it be possible to post the list Andy read out at the end?
23:45 is Bob McKenzie. Doug’s brother? 🍻 😆
I totally wondered the same thing. 🤣🤣🤣
Portaging....i dont like portaging at all!
Kevin, the mam that's want to take his wife should do a trip like you and your girlfriend did.where you car camped at different spots along the way.and go fishing or canoeing for a day every now and then
I have 1 of your canoe route books.
Really enjoyed this, looking forward to Part 2!
Make sure you know or your partner knows first aid and navigation.
Since I typically don’t like marathon trips, I usually don’t mind when someone sleeps in a bit as I’m up at 4-5 and thoroughly enjoy my alone time for a few hours…….gives me time to enjoy my pain meds before camp comes alive!
Good point.

Wow
Great Q & A! Especially liked the the answer to the questions about type of canoe for rapids, and tripping partners.
The Sudbury Canoe Routes from the 1980's, many of these routes have become Parks. What is it old P E T said, 'paddle a 100 miles in a canoe and already you're a child of nature.' We need more children of nature to maintain nature. Good part one.
Two legends! Hope to cross paths with you some day. Love the impersonation of Bill Swift Sr. on the phone!!
Good presentation, glad you guys put this together. I always learn something during discussions/presentations.
Thanks for answering my question! I appreciate the suggestions and "rule of thumb".
First one but no questions . But for the record ,know of a lake less than 2 hrs travel time , good speck fishing and whole lake to myself even on a long weekend
Totally different terrain around here means that a portage involves a dam without a lock or your shuttle at the end didn't work out.
23:05....Do it! Also, Thanks for the suggestions (From 12:30 on
Oh and excellent content on this one fellas.
Thanks!
@@TheHappyCamper any plans to do The Buffalo in AR???
This is very informative and the most I have seen you stay on track Kevin🤣 You both have such a wealth of information to share so thank you for taking the time.
I agree. LOL
Kevin. when more teaching us about trees or the whiskey chat?
Soon.
whats the point of listening if kevin is afraid to mention good lakes in the WHOLE OF ONTARIO
I think he made quite a few suggestions. You will also have to do some homework yourself and you shouldn"t only depend on Kevin
How about buying Kevin’s book “Top 70 Canoe Routes of Ontario”?
OR you could watch some of Kevin’s 723 FREE UA-cam videos for trip ideas? 🤷♂️
The point would be this:
The wealth of knowledge with regards to all aspects of trip planning which is what this video is all about. There were several lakes mentioned for newer paddlers. There will always be lakes among experienced paddlers that are kept secret. The point is, take this information on trip planning and go find your adventure! Remember if you’re new to this any lake is new and full of adventurous potential!
Then don’t listen and find your own great spot. We will see how open you are to putting in the all the work and sharing
