13:28 Really spoke to me. Replayed Jak II earlier this year, which was a really formative game from my childhood, and while the game hadn't changed, the experience was totally different for me. This thing that once seemed to house infinite possibilities and shaped my understanding of the medium, now seemed a lot smaller- where all could see was it's technical limitations and shortcomings in of design. It was kind of surreal to finally complete a game that my younger self couldn't have imagined finishing, but while having lost some of the magic of that first playthrough.

Blinx has always been my favourite game and will forever be big part of my childhood memories. If I could download or put my old disc back in I’ll most definitely play this over any newly released game.
I honestly loved this game. I didn't own an xbox but the hospital I sent most of my childhood in had one with a bunch of demo games. And it had Blinx 2, but if you paused the game it would last only a certain amount of time and I had a friend that used to keep an eye on it for me while I would race to get my tests down and come back. I honestly wish I could play it again
Never played much of the first one, had a hard time going through it (was too hard or something i guess ahah) but the 2nd one! omg did I ADORE it. Was always speaking with my friends how a shame it was they didn't make a third one yet. Dunno if it would hold up if I played it again now, but I, too, have fond memories of Blinx. Such a gem. Funny you suggest Blinx should be a new nonbinary icon- because there IS one in the almost forgotten Sega game Nights Into Dreams, whose protagonist is designed to be neither male nor female. I know I definitely clung onto that in my own gender journey, lmao

I don’t normally comment, but I feel so compelled to tell you how much I appreciate this video. As a person who didn’t have access to video games in my early childhood and only really was able to start enjoying playing games in my late teens, discussions of video game nostalgia were hard for me to understand because I had never experienced most of the games my peers did as children and were nostalgic for. But, even though you’re talking about a specific game, you were able to describe video game nostalgia to me in a way that doesn’t require having played the game itself. Thank you for that :)

I love how personal your videos are. most other channels that try to focus on video games or media try to take it from an objective perspective. however I really like how you embrace your subjective perspective and show how you see the games from your perspective. like I've never heard of blinks the cat in it but nothing to me but through this video I can understand what it means to you. And that's a cool experience to like be able to create something to reach out to an audience to help them see what it's like to be in your shoes and to see what a game means from your perspective. It's really cool because like a lot of the games you cover every I've never heard of before and it opens a whole new world if I was always there but I've just never seen it. I think that's one of the reasons why I'm so drawn to horror. The whole genre, and how effective it is at doing its thing, hangs on the effect it has on YOU. It's also very interesting to analyze what the scare tactics in a horror game has to say about the personal fears of the developers and the fears of people in general.

This video definitely gave me the warm fuzzies. I wouldn't say that I grew up with Blinx since I was 15 when it released, and I only ever played the sequel because my youngest brother owned it, but I really love those games and I don't think they get nearly as much respect as they deserve, so it's awesome to see someone else who loves the series that much talking about it! Edit: Also, yes I remember Nightcaster. It was another game my youngest brother was obsessed with that I played from time to time. Sudeki too.

The "Modern Sonic" attitude is actually only present in the USA covers of the game. The japanese cover is much more in line with the cute Blinx we see in-game, mimicking the style of Oshima's original Classic Sonic design more than anything.

I guess Princess Maker 2 fits the bill for me. It was probably the first "weeb" game I played. I wasn't even into anime at the time. Heck, it wasn't even officially out in west, instead it was some official translation that was never finished and leaked to the internet. It was so cute game I enjoyed in secret. It was my "guilty pleasure". If I mentioned about it, I would get weird looks. Years later, I realized I like cute fictional characters, boys and girls, be it anime or not. At least I've found friends who aren't weirded out by that :D I've tried playing Princess Maker 2 again, but I have to wonder how the heck I managed to do raise a daughter back then :D
