Just bought one - 2016 model 525xd. Hope for the best. To me, it is one of the best looking 5 Series ever. Better than previous and hell better looking than G30 - at least pre-facelift one, with no M Pack. Performance is good enough for a 1.9t car that offers you pretty much everything: low costs due to 2 litre engine, great fuel-efficiency, comfort, 4x4, extras...let's be realistic here: no one actually needs more performance in real life than this car has to offer.

I have a touring 525xd - performance is not its strength but it is well balanced and has great fuel economy - it makes 15km/lt in real traffic conditions.

I have an F10 520d. In India, because of the pollution regulations it’s very difficult to find cars with an engine bigger than 3L and having more than 4 cylinders. I’m a big bmw fan and I want to own an M540i but it’s just not available anywhere :( most I can do is have my 520d engine swapped with a 3.5 litre inline 6

@@NoSpeedLimit1001 It is very strict. Owning a luxury/sport car in India is very difficult. The highest 5 series model available in India i think is the 535i M sport and it costs way more than an M5 in the USA.
For example: my 520d cost me ₹62,00,000 when i bought it in December 2015. An M540i 2021 costs ₹43,20,000 in USA when converted from dollars. Its fucked up.
Also we have 200% tax on importing cars from any country..

i have a 525d f10 originally 204 hp, 460nm, 6 cilinder, 3000cc.
Did remapping, ended with 364hp and 720nm...
No mechanical changes, only remapping
the 525d f10 is 4 cylinder 2.0 turbo man and it doesn’t sound real to me going from 204hp to 364hp with only remapping?

Problems with this N47 Engine?
F10 facelift is sexy AF, I mean F10 is just gorgeous, but that 2l engine is just a big no-no. Should be at least 30d or 35d and if money isn't an issue the 550D.
In your opinion, what is wrong with the 525d 2.0 diesel? I know about the timing chain problem but with proper maintenance and care it can be managed. I have just bought the F11 touring 2011 525d
@@mustafamalik4122 All you need to do when you buy a used 2l F generation bmw engine is have the timing chain checked and if necessary have it replaced (in this case it should cost you like 5% of the money you paid for the car) usually the timing chain starts to get problematic at around 200k km, when replaced it won't be an issue anymore. The 3L engines in newer generations are not the same as they were during E46 times for example, they are much more complicated and can have issues more unpredictable than the timing chain breaking.

525 is the best best diesel engine option, you go economic engine and the sound of 6 zylinder
no, at this model isn't that 2.5 L 6 cylinders like e60. It's a 2.0L 4 cylinders biturbo engine (with 2 turbos)

I have the original f10 525d with the 3.0 unit. I expected this to be quicker but this is the first video that shows it's about the same performance. But I wonder will this unit still be going strong with 210,000km on it??
Simply no in fact M57 is mighty of all in terms of reliability and strength thats how BMW want it. They need you back at the stealership buying ready to break on the shelf parts
@s l absolutely. The problem is too many people cut corners on maintenance. So if buying secondhand you really need a mechanic to give the car a once over.
@@davecom3 n47s are reliable as long as serviced properly. There’s lots of taxis with them with over 300k miles with same turbo, gearbox and engine. They just service it every 5k miles.
@@piovo5222 having to service it every 5k has to be costly. A busy taxi driver would cover that in less than a month! The 6 cylinder also sounds pretty good for a diesel
@@davecom3 just oil and filter. If you buy from eBay castrol ll04 is around £24 for 4 litres and the filter is around £10 max from euro car parts. You could also buy the 20l barrel from Mannol for like £60. Either way personally I’d rather service more often then end up paying for turbo repairs, timing chains etc

Nice car, but what were they thinking when they replaced the lovely 3.0 6 cylinder with a rattly 2.0 with potential timing chain problems?
I think there are just few who want an power reduced 3.0 engine with the same maintenance costs and fuel consumption like normal 3L ( you pay for 3l and have power like 2l )....but it's just my opinion...who knows!
@@NoSpeedLimit1001 hi I have just purchased the 2011- 2.0 525d Touring F11. I understand it is 4 cylinder compared to the 3.0 litre's 6 cylinder. Do you think there is a big difference in performance between the 2 engines? I wanted the 3.0 diesel engine but couldn't find one in my price range

Nowhere near as often as the 2.0 4 cylinder for various reasons.
@Simon H reasons like there's a lot more 2.0 on the road, also people who buy cheaper engines tend to cheap out on services heheh sooo when you think about it, it all comes down to good maintenance 😉
Dude no offense but for others and your own safety you should learn how to steer before doing 200+ km/h, at least put both hands on the wheel 🤦🏻♂️. Nice videos tho

I may drive with one hand better than many with two.... but so that others do not misunderstand and to not be a bad example for others...I will drive in the future with both hands! you will check this when the next video apears! 👍👍

@@NoSpeedLimit1001 nah dude you ain't no professional, my dad worked for AMG as testing driver for several years. If you really were a professional driver you wouldn't be defending one hand driving in the first place, plus I can clearly see by the way you drive you have very little technique...

mine at 133.000 km 2013 model jahren spent nothin except routine service maintenance

@@medtahadoumi261 still good yeah 170k and regular oil changes(every 10k) no extra problems. (Changed timing chain and oil pump and transmission oil at 140k) if you are buying a second hand n47 or any bmw actually the most import thing is how the previous owner maintained the car (planning to get dpf cleaned professionally or change it(not a good idea cuz really expensive)

insurance was a massive jump for me from my 520 to 525. Fuel economy wasnt so much more different@@moky4241 check out the insurance category

@Alek Wolf still it's a diesel.. most diesel cars wont go higher than 11 i think.. and the advantage of a diesel is that u can prolonge the car life ( the engine) because it can have more oil than an petrol.. thats why u see old e46 with 2.0 that have nearly 1 mil km :D :D

The BMW 525D 2.0 Liter is not a twin turbo ffs! It is equipped with a twinscroll turbocharger. Look under the hood and tell me if there is more than 1 turbo charger!
They have 2 turbocharges.
520d has 1 turbocharger. 525d has two turbochargers.
