These box sets are equivalent in price to a 5e book, yet the design, content, creativity, and usability blow them out of the water. Truly amazing looking products. WOTC could learn a lot from the amazing creators out there.
I started two years ago on a journey to revive my interest in roleplaying games I had when I was 12 (I am now 42). I bought many modules and the core books for 5e. I read a lot. I googled a lot. I followed all the 5e related channels and finally I ended up with Tiny Dungeon 2e, ICRPG, Mutant Year Zero, Forbidden Lands, Maze Rats and Knave to fiddle together a system I can play with my 5th graders in school. Also I took Dragontown (by J.P. Coovert) as a perfect setting for this age. It seems as if I just cant finde a way into 5e and the core books are absolutley bad in terms of presentation for learners. I am close to the point where I am going to sell all my 5e stuff just to state that WOTC does really NOTHING to help new players and younger players to find a way into the world of ttrpg...
So incredibly honored to be apart of this amazing new box set! The Ember Tree comes directly from my personal Mausritter sessions so it is a bit surreal to see it included - thanks so much about the kind words on its design, and keep up the great work as always Ben!
I feel like The Estate could be an amazing adventure for a non-Mausritter campaign - if the PCs were somehow shrunk down. Maybe they are cursed, or hired to recover a tiny magic item from a creature in the estate.
I was introduced to the OSR scene from your videos so it's really exciting to see my adventure in this review. Thanks for the kind words and for everything you do for this community :)
I LOVE the setup of all the small adventure zines in a box with additional resources to tie them together. Would love to see something like this for Troika!
The Estate is fabulous. My players are doing their third adventure from it now and they absolutely love it. It's so well made, with great characters and art, interconnections between adventures, and hooks everywhere. Plus a ton of neat items and spells to add to the game. A really excellent campaign in a box for OSR play.
Ran this for the first time last night and my players had a blast! For most of them this was their first OSR style game and one player's first RPG in general. The lethality surprised them a little at first, but they caught on quick and learned to fight smarter not harder.
This game reminds me of a children's book/toy set in the best way possible; it feels chocked full of nostalgia, is cozy as heck, and calls back to some classic books and other media like "Mouse on the Motorcycle", "Rescuers", even "Tom and Jerry". I picked up the free pdf right after this review but now I'm itching to get my hands on the Estate.
This looks adorable, and if there's not a comic, there should be. Reminds me of "Redwall", and that's definately a good thing. I've never played D&D or any kind of tabletop game (I live in the middle of nowhere), but I'm a writer and have grown very fond of D&D/OSR storytelling. There's just something so elegantly simple about it, and I hope to play at a table someday. "Swords & Wizardry", "Basic Fantasy", "Old-School Essentials", and "OSRIC" are all my wishlist. I'm also thinking about buying some old school D&D books from DriveThruRPG. I know it sounds strange to be into a hobby you can't partake in, but I really enjoy the world of D&D and OSR.
Oh man, playing this with minis could be on a whole different level, especially with kids! Imagine having a bunch of 30mm-ish mice minis and then going out into the garden with them ...!! You could hide NPCs, clues and treasures in advance ...
That's an awesome idea! I've always wanted to do something like that, gamefying playing with toys. I "ran" a Playmobil garden game for my nephew, involving a lot of helicopter rescues.
I played my first round this weekend. A very nice game. We used a pumpkin as a chariot. Very funny. The content of the edition with the mouse hole is identical to the new edition. I do not know the first PDF version.
This looks so cute and cool and full of life! I love the fact that indie games always have so much SOUL within them and i can feel it inside their works! Thank you for this video! i found a game that i will love so much - like a nostalgia for something i was looking for for so long and finally found it!

Thanks for the overview! What rule changes are there between the older and newer boxed sets? I have the old one, and am sceptical of how much extra value the new one brings. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone new to Mausritter, though!
Me, foolishly, before this video and Mausritter: You what? You play MICE? That sounds kinda lame, what adventure can a mouse go on? Me, afterwards: * visibly struggling not to drop my whole ass campaign and try to convince my players to play the mice game *
Time after time again, things like these just prove how horrible WotC layouts are. This is an absolute joy to look at and it looks like a joy to run. The information is compact enough to leave room for improv during play. They truly understand that less is more.
As a minimalist rules set with a physical inventory, it's ideal for kids. A lot of the adventures are whimsical, nothing particularly grim. My feeling is that it's good for anyone that the theme appeals to.
I've played two adventures with my girlfriend and her 8 year-old daughter (Fruit of the Orchard, Mush Rush). It's been totally age-appropriate, and we're all having a great time. Little kids - or at least this little girl - aren't murder hobos, so finding clever solutions tends to be the default.

But those boxes are a product of love. WOTC creates just for the money.

The Ember Tree is the adventure my players are in the middle of. They're really enjoying it.
Mausritter is one of the best projects that ever happenes to the OSR community. What a gem!

I'm so happy I backed the core box set. It's amazingly well made and gorgeous

I got into the kickstarter for this and it is really amazing! The quality of the prints are fantastic!

This is actually so freaking adorable I might just have to pick this up.

You might enjoy Mouseguard by David Petersen!
Second reccomendation for Mouseguard! I found mouseritter through a subreddit on Mouseguard :)

Oathsworn Miniatures has a bunch of mouse sculpts, but they aren't quite to the 30mm height.
That sounds fantastic

@@SunkenPlanets there was this minis wargame called Fairy Meat, still can be found around (not kid friendly though :) ).
There are nice mice minis in the game "mice and mystics" which is also a great game to play with kids
Proud backer and owner of both! Love them!
I love this game. I am using it to introduce rpgs to kids, as the rules are fast and dead simple. Also tiny cute mice helps a lot.
Can't wait to get my boxed sets! I recently discovered this game and can't wait to run it, it's so delightful! The designs are so evocative and fun!

I'm blown away by how cool the "setting" for this game is, specialy The State. I'm a big fan of Carpet People and similar stories.
The factions in mausritter although appear simplistic are a welcome method in osr to add content and depth to play.
Oh man I wish I hadn't seen what the first box set looked like. Absolutely gorgeous. New edition just looks Blandyface McGenericerson in comparison.
I bought these and they are gorgeous, my introduction to Mausritter
Excellent game. I have this core rules box set, and now all I need is people that want to play it!
I regret not adding the estate to my Kickstarter. But the core box set is absolutely lovely.
Very nice, I'm a Mausritter fan now!

Looks amazing! Been thinking of checking the game out for years and I'm sucker for pretty things like these so maybe it's time..

Me, afterwards: * visibly struggling not to drop my whole ass campaign and try to convince my players to play the mice game *
I’ve been interested this in a long time, it’s a shame it always seems to be sold out whenever I check

Seems really good to run a game in Guardmouse if you prefer other systems.
Sounds like Redwall, wondering if you can play other species, such as squirrels or hedgehogs etc.
Dammit Ben, now I've got another game to buy
100% agree on the design of the original box. I'd already own this if it still had that box design, as superficial as that is.
Is this game like the Redwall books?
omg, The State is damn gorgeous. I think I need to jump into the mausritter bandwagon.
How dare you post this immediately after I decide to try and save money.
Great review, love how the zines work.
That link is for the French version, fyi. I just accidently downloaded it before I realized.
Thanks! It's fixed now.
14:27 It says "Soot Solider". I can't believe I was considering buying this
What do you mean?
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
This is so fucking charming im gonna have a goddamn heart attack
First! I love this game
Who is the target audience for this game? It seems too grim to be played by children.

@@spectatortots , @Abdul Rahman Reijerink : Thank you for your feedback!
You can also play with adults!
Kids can handle a little grimness - almost every redwall book ended in a race war
