  • Greetings and Happy Friday, everyone. Today, we have a very special author interview on the channel. This guest has a special connection to this show, as their niece, Kim Applegryn, was featured not too long ago. Kathy van Staden was born in Klerksdorp, South Africa, in 1945. The eighth and youngest child of Frederick and Anna Hawley, she always felt proud that she was born in the year peace was declared after the gruesome events of World War II.
As a Pentecostal preacher of the AFM, Frederick Hawley frequently moved his family and was called to minister in the Kalahari. While this period had been her happiest, growing up in the bush with wild animals on the outskirts, Kathy was placed as a boarder in Bray Primary School and was only allowed home on the weekends. Her time away from her family had been her most trying until her father had to move his family to Mafeking again.
After many years, the family was recalled back to Klerksdorp, where Kathy met her future husband, Henry-John van Staden. Together, they had six children; five boys and one girl.
Six years after the death of her son Jean-Marc, Kathy and Henry-John moved to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape of the Republic of South Africa. A quiet little town of tranquillity, Kathy continues evangelizing and running soup kitchens. Her passion for helping the poor and less fortunate is a testament to her strength in her Lord God. Her trials never made her waver and are a testament to all who meet her.
