My take on the ending is that the world was ending do to nuclear war, and the Soviets threatened to launch all of it's nukes to end the world. Forcing the allies to back down against their will. Also France. controlling brazil. a nightmare!.
Knowing how good Japan is with certain things, this is good in the long run. By long run I mean the 21st and 22nd Centuries. Japan's rapid industrialization was achieved without the need to chop down millions of trees. Eventually they would realize that, since their country has the Amazon Rainforest, the environment hinges on how they take care of it. Once the Japanese get a goal in mind, there is absolutely NO stopping them. Also, South America now has a bona fide economic powerhouse. You think the USA and Japan make a great combo already, despite being on opposite sides of the Pacific? Try putting them within 1,500 miles of each other! As much as the environmental situation will have improved, there's another improvement: A complete Pan-American Highway. They'd find a way. Give the Japanese a goal and they WILL accomplish it! With the Americans close nearby Japan, this world is going to have fewer major problems. They're going to double-team the drug lords of Colombia and Venezuela. Castro's Cuba? Stuck in between two Capitalist juggernauts. China's "Belt and Road Initiative"? Not getting anywhere close to The New World.
