    STORY:
In this episode we visit the grave of the actor who played the robot GORT in the classic 1951 movie called, "The Day the Earth Stood Still", which is an American science fiction classic. This film was from 20th Century Fox, produced by Julian Blaustein and directed by Robert Wise.
The screenplay was written by Edmund H. North, based on the 1940 science fiction short story "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates, and the film score was composed by Bernard Herrmann.
The Day the Earth Stood Still movie is now considered one of the best films released in 1951, and is in Arthur C. Clarke's list of the 12 best science fiction films of all time.
    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

Fantastic episode. I have watched "The Day the Earth Stood Still," since I was 5 years old in 1960. I remember during a commercial, going to the bathroom and checking behind the door to make sure Gort wasn't hiding there to get me. Scared me half to death! Loved that movie ever since. Thanks for putting this together and sharing with all of us. The effects are fantastic. Take care.

Saw this amazing movie in 1971 at age 9. I was already painfully aware of the state of the planet; my mother gave me "Silent Spring" to read, and my father had me watch a series that recorded "The Nuremburg Trials" with him every Tuesday night. I often questioned why I had been born into a world filled with my sleeping, apathetic species..
I was always interested in time travel, Newtonian physics and space exploration. So when I watched this movie, I thought "I'm not alone! Others here are thinking about the repurcussions of our group choices on this planet!"
At age 60, I still remain optimistic. Perhaps humans truly only learn & change by getting backed into a corner. Then we do what needs to be done to correct our path.
I sure hope so. I became a mom to a son who sees the possibilities as well. And we all want a better world for our children.🙏🏼

Fabulous show!! One of my favorite movies! My husband and I met Patricia Neal when she came to our small town of Demopolis, Alabama, many years ago!! Such a gracious lady! She took the time to talk individually with all the members of the audience! She had done a reading and it was just lovely!!

she seemed cool. I guess she laughed and giggled thru the whole shooting, even Remmie was telling her: " are you going to laugh the whole time?"
she thought the script was so funny.

I love those old sci-fi's. My mom, who is no longer with us, was born in 1924. She loved to watch them and I grew up enjoying our time together watching them in the 60's. She was actually scared watching some of them. I have quite a bit of them on DVD's. Thanks for this video. The day the earth stood still is one of my favorites when I want to enjoy memories of my past.

Nice to find all this out about the actor who played gort , sounded like a really nice fellow. That movie really frightened me as a kid, probably saw it around 1960 like others mention. It was really ahead of it's time. Now I would like to see it again, it's been years ! Thanks, Ron!

Thank you for this one. My father and I would sit around and watch movies just like this. War of the worlds, journey to the center of the earth, the blob, tarantula, goodness I can't think of them all. We recorded over two hundred movies that were old sci/fi and horror movies. I still have them in boxes in the basement. I really loved the time spent with dad doing something that gave him such joy. He had every episode of the original star trek recorded and watched them over and over. Thank you for the great memories of my dad.

Terrific episode, as usual! I've seen "The Day the Earth Stood Still" on Saturday morning television before Ted Turner bought the rights to them. That's who my mom had blamed for the disappearance of good vintage movie viewing for us non-cable viewers in the 1980's and prior.

GREAT! videography! Cool intro! I am 54 , and the first time that I saw the movie was on a friend's beta max in 1977! His dad was a bank president, so they had money to buy the 1500.00 dollar Betamax machine, with tuner knobs and a giant timer box. Lol. I was 9 yrs old. I bet those of you older folks loved seeing it in the theater in th early 50s. Robert Wise directed the first Star Trek; The Motion Picture. It may have been his last? , or at least the last SciFi. Not sure.
P.S., I had an uncle that looked just like Michael Renee.

0:13 So cool the sound and the craft coming in for a landing. I love how you faded in. I got chill bumps. I didn't expect it. Then it fading out like it has a cloaking device. Really cool ideas!
That tree to the right is so pretty. I wonder what kind it is. The mountains are beautiful.
The stamped concrete sidewalks are so pretty. Makes them so dressy. This is a very nice courtyard and mausolem area. Lots of attention to detail. Statues on crypts and statues in the alcoves. Very beautiful and symmetrical.
5:46 I love this area best. The statue is huge and the arches on each side just add to the beauty.
Yes, very important message. It was at a time when it seemed like people didn't slow down long enough to think how dangerous everything is that they are developing. People were in a race to get more powerful, lethal weapons, outdo other countries, without thinking about what it means for the future of the Earth, of people.
7:00 I cannot picture anyone else in that role. I think they made a good choice.
7:50 All of these statues -- the layers of draping fabric on the statues throughout this entire place is beautiful.
8:03 This is why I always rewatch the live shows....while chatting, I missed hearing what materials it was made of and that it was Frank Lloyd Wright's design. How cool is that?!
11:06 That very tall wall on the left with all the vaults. No one can read who is in them or reach them to put flowers in the little vase holder.
11:21 I never thought of the work and devices needed to get that helmet to work. That really does make me ponder now what all was involved to get that accomplished.
The music was chilling. That quivering sound always runs up my spine.
12:59 Poor guy. I just never thought a big guy like him would be really weak. But it was part of his health condition. So sad.
13:47 So good to know the Director was a responsible and caring man who gave him breaks. You are so right, we never hear of such happening back then. We usually hear the opposite...how tough the bosses were on the folks.
That is clever about the zippers. I was wondering how on Earth he got into and out of it when it looked so solid.
15:12 Looks like she is eating a rose. I never knew deer ate roses.
16:28 Thank you for zooming in and getting the light against it. I couldn't see the sun until then. Beautiful rays.
The ending. Wow. That was cool with the Angel close up and the music. Terrific production and tribute to this amazing person. He suffered a lot no doubt but he really had an iconic role that cemented him into film and TV history.

Loved that movie “The Day The Earth Stood Still” so much. We watched it when it came out on TV. My sister and I would go downstairs and curl up on the fold out sofa and watch the tv, all black and white then. Loved the sci-fi Saturday matinee! We would get scared and hid under the blankets. I’d always peek through the open areas of the fabric weave to watch it to be sure it wasn’t coming through the screen to get us, and I also wanted to see what happened next, but I was too scared to come out of the blanket for awhile! Lol! Soon we were back out, but soon I’d dive back under again! More than my sister. And we loved every scary moment of those movies. Loads of good memories. May “GORT” rest in slumbering peace.

Michael Rennie filled in for Raymond Burr in a 1963 episode of 'PERRY MASON' called - 'The Case of the Libelous Locket.' He played a law professor who had to defend one of his students charged with murder. During the trial, a police detective under cross-examination jokingly referenced a "nine foot Martian" which turned-out to be an important clue for the defense.

I have Marian Syndrome myself. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that a very wonderful and talented human being, such as Mr Martin, shared this multi symptom genetic condition with someone such as myself. Great video, thank you so very much for it and God Bless You Always, Ron!!🙏

Great intro to this video Ron. I do remember this movie. It was kinda ahead of its time. It's amazing the work that was done to make this movie.
