Rail Observations of Buffalo-Niagara Falls, New York (March 2021)

Recordings taken place in downtown Buffalo and the unique underground stations of Utica; Delavan/Canisius (Canisius College); and Amherst.
As seen in the video Buffalo has an interesting yet unique rail system in which the design layout is seemingly "backwards" compared to many other cities with light rail/tram networks. It operates on-street within the downtown district along Main Street then heads underground as a subway throughout the remainder of it's journey to University of Buffalo. All things considered, the service frequency & connection between northeast Buffalo and downtown is pretty frequent BUT [personal opinion] probably not the best idea to do so in this format since any possibility of an extension further north is gonna be more expensive for Erie County then it needed to be though the benefits from it is efficiency from being separated from motor vehicle traffic.

They look like the Boeing LRVs that Boston’s MBTA Green line and San Francisco MUNI Metro operated in the late 1970s until early 2000s

Yes, they are based upon those 1977 Boeing LRVs. The makers learned from the mistakes from Boeing. Also, they had the distinct advantage to be made to the specifics of Buffalo's new LRV trackage (1983) vs. the Boeing LRVs being forced unto both San Francisco's and Boston's already existing streetcar tracks. SEPTA learned from this, and although they did not adhere to the longer model of longer vehicles, SEPTA worked with Kawasaki to make vehicles to fit Philly's existing trolley tracks. We shall see if the current SEPTA brass will do the same with the Alstom Citadis within a few years.

@@robertpeters4161 just drove through in May for the first time. It looks very nice. Yes Albany is pretty small but we do have the tallest building in NY outside of the city! 🤣

@@sytch4me334 nelson Rockefeller built that plaza as a tribute to himself! When he was governor in the 60's to 1978, you could do 10 YEARS of hard prison time for 2 joints! It wasn't till 1980 when they reformed the marijuana laws, and governor Hugh Carry had to have his arm twisted to do that! Unless the crooks in the state ledgeslature are in session. Otherwise, there's nothing doing. New York is fucked up from the tip of long island to buffalo. 700 miles of nothing.

Hey. I know part of the Buffalo area due to Niagara Falls. I visited Niagara Falls in 1973. I am glad that the NFTA has found a way to do something to keep some troublemakers out of some of these stations by playing classical music. Some of the gang bangers hate classical music. Thanks for filming!

There are a lot of rude and inconsiderate people who frequent or use NFTA services or facilities. Many of whom have no regard for the rules or other people. I wish there would be more Transit Police patroling the stations and buses. I've seen people enter buses and trains maskless and with potentially dangerous items such as chainsaws. Personally, I have been attacked two times on a train and in a station. Too many inconsiderate people who think they are entitled to do whatever they what.

since they are both bulit in the 80s they both have a chopper motor inverter sound as it accelerates. not to mention the driver windows are simular to septas kawasaki lrv trolleys
