I'm doing what I've done for 60+ years. I'm doing what my parents and my grandparents, and all the ancestors before me have done. I'm rolling with it. My garden is planted to be adaptable, I have shade cloth, a small greenhouse, and cold frames. I have 18 months of food put up so that if I lose a crop/entire garden I have food until the next garden harvest. If it is cold I have a wood burning stove and firewood. If it is hot I have AC ~ as well as passive cooling, a small pool, and I've got NO shame about working in the garden in a sopping wet tshirt.
The weather and weather patterns have changed each and every year since humans lived in caves. Sometimes weather events killed people. Sometimes natural disasters killed people. It hasn't been until the past 40 years or so that humans ceded their learned abilities over to 'the government' and their independence over to 'being rescued'. I may be odd, but I've never done that. I wasn't raised that way. I was taught to make do, make it last, wear it out, or do without. If I can't buy something I either save up for it or find a different method to accomplish what I need. I know I don't rely on our broken food supply chain, that I can live without electricity (not that I like it much), that I can grow some sort of food year round in various amounts, that my bills are paid, that I owe nothing, and that I'm not going to stress over the weather when there are actually things going on that I have no control over/can't protect myself from. I grew up with the original 'preppers'; individuals who lived through the Great Depression and who taught me how to manage to be happy whether I had a lot, a little, or nothing. I keep a certain amount of water on hand, mostly for my small livestock. I have the means to collect rain if/when necessary. I've got a composting toilet/totes full of sawdust, and a camp shower. I also know that if someone offs me for what I have it won't do them a bit of good beyond what is stored because my knowledge goes with me.
And ~ I'm not eating ze bugs. I cultivate those (via a bucket trap) for my chickens.

100% agree. That's one of many reasons why the prepping community continues to prepare. They're preparing for an uncertain future. Anything could happen. Climate disasters. Potential global conflict. Economic collapse. Anything. We're living through historic perilous times. People are tougher than they think when it comes right down to it. The majority of the people managed to make it through the last great depression. Most will also make it through this one. For those that wanted to prepare but were unable to for any number of reasons; my heart goes out to you. The next few years are going to be very tough for you. For those that were able to prepare but couldn't see the writing on the wall and didn't prepare, it sucks to be you. Have zero sympathy for you. You're just stupid.

I had warmer temps this winter, but had high winds tearing up trees.
I am focusing on my underground Zen Refuge. It uses ground temperatures to make liveable space without power. I keep gardening and dehydrating vegetables and fruits. A garden is more flexible than farms. I follow edible natives, in different conditions, I have different crops.
    Prepare prepare prepare.

    • @RebeccaTreeseed
      @RebeccaTreeseed 3 місяці тому

@@seankingwell3692Current farming practices arose with Caterpillar building massive (read profits) machines supplanting human labor. Problem is, massive machines rape the land, require massive bank loans and displace family farms because they require huge corporate farms. They rape the land instead of taking care of it. Massive use of chemicals is a sign of dead land, and the end of healthy food full of nutrients. Humans die of disease from malnutrition and cancers.
Obesity is a sign of malnutrition, our bodies lack nutrition and are endlessly hungry.
Corporate agriculture is already collapsing. My land is on the side of a mountain, I have enriched it for 10 years. During the extreme price increases, I ate more wild foods from my land. I dehydrate over 60 types of plants. Plus some I only eat fresh.
It is sustainable and nutrient dense.
It can only happen when individuals take on growing most of their own food.
Good news: home gardens have increased from 22 million to 79 million, and most are college educated 30-somethings! Yay!
Bad news: home gardeners are creating mini versions of corporate farming dead zones, but that will improve.
England's old yeoman farmers only had a quarter acre of land each! Full time "farmers" were gardeners!
My first gardens were on old inner city lots originally designed to be like yeoman farms. Old people with 1/5 acre let me garden and ate produce with my son and I. Not ChemLawn death.

I've been gardening/farming for over 40 years, and I've never had crop failures in my garden like the past few years. Seriously, if it is too wet for spinach? One year, thank goodness we put up a hoop house, because the beans in the outdoor garden all turned yellow and died. And I plant a lot of beans because I do not, have not, ever bought them in a store. I canned beans in October! That was strange, canning beans, and only two canner loads at that, when the trees were in their fall foliage. My potatoes rotted, too, but since I plant at different times I had enough for winter, and used up ones I'd canned the year before. Last year I had seven different varieties of tomatoes - all rotted on the vine except for the Romas. Last year also had a May 18 frost that killed every blossom on the fruit trees, not just at my place, but all over New York. The area's apple orchards lost a ton of money - no U-pick around me at all. None of the apple trees at my farm, even the hedgerow ones, had any apples. Deep in the woods, a lone tree might have four or five in the center, but that's it. My advice, plant as much as you can, process as much as you can, and stack it deep. If you can finagle something where you can control the 'weather' go for it. I can always water the garden, I can't keep rain off of a half-acre of garden.

Heres some tips on reducing the risk of heatstroke, cause I work an overly hot summer job. 1) Drink tons of water. 2) Put cold water or ice on your neck, head, and down your shirt. 3) Carry a bandana, you can wet it and put it over your head when youre overheating and it works wonders. 4) Limit sugar and caffiene its dehydrating. 5) Try and wear cotton, its breathable. And light colors dont absorb as much heat as dark ones. 6) If someone passes out in the heat, call 911 immediately, its a strong indicator of heat stroke.
Ive not gone down, even when working in 110 - 115 degree heat. Even during Colorados record breaking summer 2 years ago. I saw many others pass out from it, but I didnt. Lastly, put your immediate health before your job. No job is paying enough for you to get brain damage from heatstroke 😊

Most of your tips are good, but there are two that aren't good advice. Drinking tons of water is actually bad for you, especially if you're excessively sweating. You need something to replace the electrolytes and minerals that you're losing and water doesn't do that. It just further dilutes your electrolyte balance. You need salt, potassium, and magnesium.
Cotton is not breathable. Once its wet, it stays wet. In a humid environment you're going to soak a cotton shirt and it won't evaporate which means you won't actually cool off. A synthetic shirt will dry much faster and actually breathes better than cotton, at least in humid environments.
I was a roofer in Southeast Georgia for 15 years. I have a lot of experience working in hot, humid, and extreme environments.

Add solar panels and build a Linux based system (Raspberry Pi) running Farm Bot hardware and software, that’s my ultimate goal for me personally but expand it to my neighborhood and local cities. We could grow our own food and have our own co-op community based survival system in place for hard times ahead. The idea is not to have draw upon the grid for either energy or water, instead cisterns store the water and water usage is optimized through sub-surface ollas running through drip lines. Lots of ideas and I am certain lots of trials and errors to come.

Don't be tricked into buying expensive shade cloth. I did at first and was always disappointed in both the small sizes of it and it's poor performance compared to the sheets I used. The slits cut into the sheets though are necessary here when the wind blows, but the shade they give is much better than shade cloth. I also used old white sheets for extra coverage in the beginning of winter to extend growing, but once winter kicks in nothing is growing as our temperature reaches minus forty celsius a lot. She's stable and home now, but's a walking pharmacy and has more appts. This was eye opening on my part because I got to see where our personal weaknesses are and where I need to prep better - not just for outside threats. It also made me aware of our medical vulnerabilites and reliance on medicines/doctors. Unfortunately, there is no way to stock up on her RXs - which is scary to think about. Luckily, her doctors would make every effort to get her her RXs in an emergency.

The problem with the assumption that we have been experiencing continuously rising global temperatures for year is that it is wrong. Those claiming a "record" hot 2023 are using models of temperature data, not the actual temperature data itself. Further, going back decades, population and development around temperature monitoring stations have created biases in the data itself that simply can't be removed. In addition, the better satellite data does not agree with the temperature data or the models. In short, we've got a data problem, not a climate problem.
That's not to say that we shouldn't be cognizant of factors affecting our food supply and taking appropriate action based on those factors. However, we shouldn't be guided by talking heads and propaganda but rather common sense.

Its apolitical here and actually uniting many with opposing views as it continues to affect us so harshly now. Winters went from all recorded history here as mild, a few inches of snow every several years. The past 5 years it has been 4 to 5 FEET, with actual blizzards and snow that refuses to melt or turns to jelly when it does. It’s awful. Summers, historically mild at our elevation and forestry cover here are now grey blank skies that the NWS calls “blue skies”, with a final 30 minutes at sunset of real sunshine, and very detrimental on gardening etc. but it’s also, besides the grey skies, HOT. 113F NEVER.. until now, annually now.

Times of maximum sunspot activity are associated with a slight increase in the energy output from the sun. Ultraviolet radiation increases dramatically during high sunspot activity, which can greatly affect the Earth's atmosphere. The converse is true during minimum sunspot activity.
This means that more sunspots deliver more energy to the atmosphere, so global temperatures rise. According to current theory, sunspots occur in pairs as magnetic disturbances in the convective plasma near the Sun's surface. These have been escalating. Magnetic field lines emerge from one sunspot and re-enter at the other spot. So hotter summers and less snow where snow was normal will arise as a trend. Then, moments will return to normal and then change again.

I've read that there will be an unusually "quiet" sun as far of sunspots go in the near future which means our climate will get colder.

Chris makes an excellent point: “Has weather in our lifetime been worse, of course, isolated cases, but (consistently been this bad…not really.” The last few decades and years stand out in growing in extremes.” People will say it’s always been like this, but Jesus compared the time just before he comes and the things that begin to happen in the world, to birth pains. Increasing and frequency and severity just before he returns. Get ready and thanks Chris for the video.

Hey Cris, I live less than 2 miles from my giant eagle grocery store. Luckily they are usually stocked full most of the time, even during covid. My advice live near something that will help the community. I even live less than 2 miles from a major hospital here in Pittsburgh, Pa. Stay safe everyone and

Solar maximum should be added to global observations. Thanks for encouraging city prepping. I live in semi remote Alaska but the concern is people who live in cities learning self reliant living without relocating. The more prepared people are for emergencies the less impact those emergencies have on "everyone". Thank you huge for your channel and rational logic. I've been on solar and wind over 40 years and grown most of my food most of my life. I highly recommend it. Peace and elbow grease 🌳 ps rent free for 16 yrs. In exchange for protecting those who prepare from those who don't.

....you can easily overlay solar maximum on historic temps from the last 120 years. It ultimately has zero impact, at least compared to releasing billions of tonnes of sequestered carbon. Such a stupid argument.
It's going to get worse, and any good prepper knows it.

@@DogBeast221 I grow both warm and cold season crops for best results in increasing unpredictable weather. I container plant so if I need to move I can take my garden with me and they warm up faster in spring to help extend the growing season. I save my seeds so they are well acclimated and last year grew outside, corn that managed to make seeds. I experiment on a small scale with different crops. I grow quinoa, hard red winter wheat, barley and rye quite well. And grow inside rotating things like radishes year round for constant fresh harvest of both greens and roots letting the best, make more seeds. It's not that hard, ya just gotta start small and keep growing and experimenting. Mosquitoes taste fine fried 😁

@@DogBeast221 Thank you, just the natural result of being a prepper since the early 70's One of my favorite things is when I hooked up a car electric window geared motor to my (now solar powered) Back to Basics grain grinder. I grow my own wheat, to make my bread and always thought it strange that the average person has never even grown their own sandwich. A sparrow knows how to take care of itself...... I don't think I'm special but wonder about a world of people brought up to forget how to take care of themselves, like all the generations before it. My teachers by choice where old folks who lived through the depression. They deserve the credit not me. I just listened when they told me 'money is fine just don't bet your life on it "

Small old hot and drafty home? Line past the roof with bales of straw, they will need to be staked with hardwood branches. Lay 4x4s across the top of the bales, add bales to cover the roof. Straw bale homes and earth pressed walls cool and keep a steady temp.
