Mastering Illustrator Margins: Quick and Easy Guide Tricks
Learn how to make evenly spaced guides around the edges of an Illustrator document as margins that you can use to align objects in your document. There isn't an easy way to make margins or guides in Illustrator so I have a pretty straightforward way for you to do this.

Cool! I never noticed the guide function in the split into grids! I use a similar method when I make my margin guides. I also create a rectangle and subtract the margin amount, then center it to the artboard like you did; but then with the rectangle selected, I choose “object >> make guides” and that rectangle becomes my margin guides and looks similar to the margin guide on an InDesign document.
