Thank you for this succinct explanation. I just did a job on mine, and I know that I made a few mistakes along the way. This explanation really helped me out and hopefully I can repair what I need to better this time around.
Thanks for this video and what to look out for. I got a mark 1 golf and i need to replace this gasket for the oil leak on top of the engine. Im technically minded, i repair printers so i have a knack at repairing anything i am able to get my head around, but cars make me paranoid 😂 so thanks so much
Permatex ultra black gasket maker silicone will do the job. Just make sure to let it cure 24hrs before driving. the only downside is the long cure time but it works
After a valve cover gasket change what would cause it to misfire it's got brand new wires and plugs and been tested. If there was pine needles left inside
A star pattern on the valve cover? Each manufacturer will have their own sequence to follow, so I would advise anyone to check with the correct specification from the maker.
@@iamwonderfool1426 Right. The consensus seems to be to start in the center, and do a cross/star as you move to the outside bolts. Bolt patterns vary greatly though. In some cases, it won't matter much at all.
You forgot to mention spark plug tube seals on valve covers where the head has a tube sticking out that goes into the valve cover. Sometime those seal are part of the valve cover and can not be replaced. It that is the case they only fix is to completely replace the valve cover
I think my problem is I over tightened mine. Would it be fine if I loosened the bolts and retightened it to spec? Or do I need to redo the whole thing?
I just had the crankshaft replaced in my 2011 coyote. It has a sleeved short block and all the good parts in it. Just got the car back, and I noticed a little bit of oil under a valve cover bolt. Where should I start? How can this be diagnosed and how can I be sure that a shop doesn’t rip me off? I’m not a mechanic. Thank you so much. 😊
my valve cover has some signs of deformity maybe due to the overheating issue, does having a new gasket can fix the leak or do i need to replace the cover itself?
It's crazy. My oil was super black and low. My 03' G35 was leaking oil, and it seems like valve cover gasket. It takes 5 quarts but was low (it had about 3.5 quarts) before I changed it. After I changed it, I heard a pop and all my oil started leaking out like crazy, like pouring out water from a water botttle, all at once. Legit the 5 quarts I added leaked out. And there was smoke near my passenger headers behind engine. There seems to be no leaks from hoses. So my guess is valve cover gasket. But would it even be able to do that?
The satisfaction of seeing you destroy a valve cover by prying a screwdriver underneath it to demonstrate what would happen is amazing. I want to create a tutorial video on how not to install 2000 dollar video cards into a PCI-e x16 slot by shoving it in wrong and snapping half of the gold fingers off, continuing to shove it in, and going straight through the motherboard. I wouldn't stop there. I would continue pressing the video card into the center of the earth, causing all the volcanoes to erupt on earth at the same time, ending life as we know it. I will have the same amazingly stoic face you have and say, "This is what happens."
I please need some kind of way to get a plug out of the cylinder well Iv been trying with the socket I think it's stripped there is alit oil around the plug.
how.common is it for the valve cover to be cracked. I have a leak and that's what my mechanic says. Coincidence that the thermostat housing was cracked a few weeks before, same guy?
I replaced the valve cover gasket $260...and I see oil coming out of valve cover has a crack,I thought maybe that is the reason...crack was there before gasket replacement...I am so unhappy with the job...Wish you were in Miami,fl.
Head cilinder, repair by alumnium, and gasket changed and oil, also changed after that new coolant throw in, but it comes the milkey things, please help me?❤
He forgets some covers are made from plastic. Plastic warps over the years and will not ever seat properly and stop leaking no matter how many gaskets you use. You will need a brand new cover!.

Good info straight to the point and NOT LONG AND DRAWN OUT!
Thank you dude. You've been most helpful.
You are my go to channel now
This is why so many engines have heavy oil residue, do to leaking oil valve cover.
Sir its not engines with oil leaks...its bad mechanics who rips people off. This man comes on YT to explain in few words.
Good use of part to show why you mean

Take it one step at a time and you'll be fine.

Oil resistant type
you also forgot to mention the tightening sequence. That's really important to ensure a nice even seal.
That’s what I learned today. Wrong sequence and it was leaking. 😉

He mentioned tightening in the star pattern at 2:41

Great video, bro❤
Super useful video. Thanks
Awesome information , thank you for sharing your knowledge .

Redo. Valve cover gasket is probably split or stretched.

I put soaked alcohol cotton ball on the top and let it sit for 10 minutes. It helps remove the old gasket pieces that are stuck on the head.
I have to wonder where the oil is coming from until I saw your YT explanation...how many more times I have to deal with this.
Would you recommend an aluminum valve cover over the OEM plastic? I found a Dorman brand and it’s for a 2016 f150 3.5
I got a valve cover at Walmart for $60...plastic Dorman. I see you maybe in the UK.Good luck anyway.
Thank you for the heads up buddy

I recommend replacing the valve cover if it is deformed.
Walmart....$60 for Dorman plastic valve over for my Toyota Rav4,2008.Check it out..they are the cheapest.
Thanks very attentive to details.
Great info. Thanks!
Good advice!
Good telling of do and don't
What about the timing belt/chain cover
I have a video on that subject. Use search bar. Thanks

They all leak
Got my changed out, now I have a light on dash board
Help
Check the engine light at local auto parts store free. You might still have a leak. Something may have gone wrong with the process.
I got deep scratch on mine :/
My mechanic definitely did a bad job. A few months later and it's leaking again. I guess it happens...
Might be excessive crank case pressure 😬
That's a chevy 1.8l valve cover. Probably came off a sonic or cruze
❤😊
Thanksgiving
Lol....Amen!
