What a wonderful model of the famous Bird dog...I'm waiting for a FW 190 to arrive, however watching your model flying I'm seriously looking at buying the Bird Dog later...Brings back a few memories of trying to fly a rubber powered model well over sixty years ago...l once lost..(almost)..a 2 metre glider because of a radio malfunction, it flew off into the sunset. l found it sometime later in a ploughed field. It had landed perfectly all by itself with just a few scratches on the fuselage covering...The joys of model flight...
It's fun to build models that we built as youngsters isn't it? Did you see my build series on the Focke Wulf by the way ua-cam.com/video/d08SIMwEK8E/v-deo.htmlsi=4bbP7Lo2kArHyruo 👍
Awesome! Here is a flight tip. 1. If your model is climbing out try not to use down thrust but use right or left thrush to pull it out of the climb and in to a turn, then a little down if needed. Thank you for being apart of this contest.
Thanks Doyle, you're right, as soon as the maximum thrust has dissipated a little it all settles down, cheers 👍
Holy cow that was awesome mate You got in some nice flight times What a beauty 🔥👍✌️
Thanks Erric, in the right hands these little planes are capable of even more 👍
We all love our radio gear, but there is something very special about a free flying rubber powerd model. Well done.
Thanks Terry, it's really satisfying to get back to basics 👍
Well done, good effort and what a nice looking plane.
Thanks Bob
Wow Cliff you had several very long flights, a great testimony to a very skilled builder. Great stuff my friend!
Thanks Jerry, the Guillow's Facebook page is the place I learnt how to do stuff, I'm still a beginner though 🙂
I enjoy Doyle's build and fly contests, well done Cliff, fun journey from the box to air, Jeff in LA USA
Thank you Jeff, it's been a fun project, it may be the last year Doyle runs it though, hopefully someone else will pick up the torch 👍
Congratulations! That looked very rewarding.
It was!
Very nice...been a long time since I watched a free flight video. Nice job on the Bird Dog! Those crank winders are a life saver!
I started dabbling with FF again a couple of years ago, I'd forgotten how much fun they can be, and yes, those winding cranks are a Godsend, thanks for watching and commenting 👍🙂
Wry nice build and flight Cliff I really enjoyed it. Free flight rubber is frustrating but the joy of a good flight is unmatched.
Thanks Duane, nice of you to say so, and I have to say your last comment is so true 👍
Fantastic! I was waiting for this video! Your worst flight is still longer than my best! Great to see how you go about the trimming and the trial and error. 20 seconds might not sound like much, but for those of us who are trying this, it really means a lot! Thank you for sharing and posting!
Thank you DC for your comment, appreciated as always. PS Readers: Check out DC's Channel, he's an inspiration 👍
Well done Cliff, that looked like great fun. And you got the 20 seconds plus.
Yes thanks Chris, it is fun and no 'A' needed lol
Well done Cliff, you’re smile said it all 😎
Cheers Bob, it's easy to smile when things go right (eventually!) 👍
Great job never give up.😆
No Sir 👍😁
I remember flying small rubber models
Thinking all the time
"If only I could get the plane to trim while it was airborne
I did not have RC back then
Now that I do have RC
I find my self drawn somewhat to FF & CL (just every now and then)
Thanks Micheal, the draw will get stronger as you get older 👍
Buenisimo cliff.
Getting some nice flight times there Cliff, Great Job 😄👍
Thanks Ian, you'll notice a lot of my launches were pretty bad as well 👍
Yes but nit as bad as mine Lol
Way to go Cliff! Great video.
Cheers Kenny, it was a fun journey 👍
Thank you for normal problems video.
Your welcome Daniel 👍
congratulations! this is the first Guillows plane that flies.
I suggest to increase the incidence angle of the wing and adjust the elevator. See how that works
lovely looks and great flight.
Thanks Yasser 👍
Great flying! I’m lucky to get 8 seconds of flight, but single strand motor. How do you make the prop turn with a winding loop on the end?
Hi Indy, thanks, if your rubber motor runs for 8 seconds that's about all you'll get from a flight. The winding loop still has a 90 degree bend in it to engage with the prop. Did you see my 34 second flight on my Chipmunk earlier this year? ua-cam.com/video/wRA5fH5xa5Y/v-deo.html, cheers.
Nice job Cliff.
Thanks you David, all good fun 👍
I have one of these on order. Looking forward to putting it together.
It's a very nice build Bryan, mine's pretty heavy at 44g ready to fly but as you see you can still get reasonable results. This includes a few grams in the nose to balance so keep the tail as light as you can.
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Excellent I get what you mean. I have some plans i DL'd as well i want to print out and play with. Resources here are scarce. But i can get some balsa sheet and sticks in limited quantities.
Might want to try two loops of 3/32 rubber. A stop watch might help as well.
Thanks Morco, good idea, I have to order some more rubber now as I've just about used up my stock. The trouble with a stop watch is I can't launch and start it at the same time, it doesn't really matter how fast, or not, I count as it doesn't seem to affect the flight time 😁😁😁
Hi Cliff, in covering the Bird dog you said a wash of Acrylic paint, you mean applying by brush or Spraying, and what water thining ratio? and is it okay to substitute Lacquer (if not available )with Varnish or here weight accounts?
Hi Mahir, I applied the paint with a brush, it was pretty thin, just enough to colour it really. Weight does count, you're right, varnish sounds heavy. My advice is to make up a test square and cover it in tissue and try the different finishes to see how they effect each other 👍
good job i built one and got 34 seconds with some modifications
Great job Lambv what motor and prop did you use, can you recall?
Is the video dead after 9:52 or is it me?
Hi Mike, that's odd, it's the same for me, I'll look into it, thanks for pointing it out, cheers
What do you use to lube the elastic?
Hi DougieBob, I use lube from Mike Woodhouse free flight supplies in the uk but others use various lubes, Dow Corning 33 is one, if you Google 'rubber lubricant for model planes' you'll get a flood of information 👍 thanks for your comment 🙂
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
Thank you for that, I'll have a look.
Add more power…
Agreed MH, I had 34 seconds out of my Chipmunk in this year's competition 👍🙂
